  • Apparently the wide 2.55:1 aspect ratio was forced upon Max Ophuls, and to counter it he framed the characters through doorways, down corridors, through windows etc. to break the image up. It's a wonderful film and the Blu-Ray is quite spectacular.

  • THANK YOU for posting this! I've been reading about this mid-50's classic for years but have only seen clips recently thanks to youtube. I can see why it's been considered a classic by so many for it's gorgeous color photography & excellent use of the wide screen format.
