  • SweedChef, I'm glad you enjoyed this one. You are right, the VFR Arrival procedures into Oshkosh specify that pilots should acknowledge ATC commands by rocking their wings. This is to prevent radio congestion and to ensure that ATC has a clear broadcast channel to provide instructions. However, depending on the circumstances, ATC will occasionally ask for a verbal response. Typically this occurs when someone has been asked to go around and is trying to merge back into the flow.

  • I was just reading about the Air Traffic Control needed for this. You can hear them in the background.

    Pilots are not allowed to respond to ATC, they acknowledge by rocking their wings. Very cool indeed.
