I wish I had about 20 of my landings on tape. I've botched quite a few of them. It's amazing how you can just walk away from them with just a few scratches.
I figured it was someone else. :-) Very nice work on the board man. So have you ever crashed? :-P Oh out of curiosity, how many jumps do people usually have before they attempt a sky surf? I'm under the impression not a lot of people do it anymore because of the added danger.
In my country (The Netherlands) You can start skydiving when you turn 16. I am 17 and i love to jump. :D It is deffinately the most awesome sport in the world!
Lol :P This stuff looks so amazing though. Skydiving/surfing etc I bet is like the greatest experience in the world!! I'm gonna go on my first jump soon but it would be so awesome if I could devote enough time and money to actually make this far someday. Or do that Wingsuit BASEjumping... which also looks amazing.
Most of my Sky Surf Buddies that turned Pro are no more. I did 1000 jumps in 1 1/2 years in the early 90's I stopped at the top of my game. God Bless.
i know your probably an expert, but here's a question, russell. How easy is it to spin out of control and black out?, cuz ive heard of that happending, and it sounds it could happen relatively easily.
Your right on a board. I had a camera man that wanted to try my starter board (only 33") This man had 2500 jumps, but not on a sky board, and he spun out of control for 11,000 feet till he saw black and red stars. By the Grace of God he was able to pull his chute at the last second. Always pray before you jump.
Very kool, very kool. But, um, I forgot what I was going to say, so I will ask it when i regain what i was going to ask in a later comment. OH YEAH now I remember! Did you by any chance jump from what the average skydiver jumps from? From what I've personally learned is that usually a maximum height is a number I don't remember, but it's usually a 1 minute free fall. But to me it looks like the footage you have of one jump I assume is much longer than that... Is it?
Because I owned my own gear I was only paying $16.00 per jump.
To learn cost more. Find a Drop Zone that will allow you to go AFF on your first jump. (Accelerated Freefall (AFF) is a method of skydiving training. It has replaced static line progression as the most common method of training skydivers, though static line is still used at many smaller drop zones.
It is so good to hear from you. I need as much of our skysurfing footage as possible. Do you still have the ESPN tape when I won the demo Title? I will pay. We were the best team!!! Glory to God. Call me.
It would be nice to see more surfing across the tops of some clouds! I always wondered if there was a way to be right on top of the clouds. You seem to have perfect one way of doing it! What do you think about trying more "Surf the clouds" shots? Also, has anyone ever surfed the sky right down into a wave at the shore to "finish" the surfing that way?
Patrick De Gayardon for Reebok did such a thing. If you look on you tube Ill bet you find it, I did.
Patrick De Gayardon who is known by many as the greatest all around skydiver of the 20th century. Patrick lived and died on the cutting edge of extreme skydiving. Patrick died on the North Shore of Hawaii while test jumping his modified wingsuit.
Garvey Was the first Sky Surfer, and Patrick de Gayardon was the second. Garvey was called The Silver Surfer. They both died doing extreme sports. Garvey died falling in to a half mile ravine snowboading. In 1998 Patrick de Gayardon, died jumping a Batwing suit in Hawaii. We will miss them.

"usually a 1 minute free fall" is correct. Average skydiver will jump from 12,500 ft.
The footage I have is some of over 700 sky surf jumps I have done in 1 1/2 yrs (1991-1993).

Just Curious:
From what altitude were you jumping (out of the plane) at?
...and from that altitude, about how long do you get to free-dive before you have to deploy your parachute?

12,500 ft. 60 second freefall.
