  • Still an 883 what u need to do is go to a 1250 conv and do a thunder header with a porting and good cams

  • @sportsterkid89 You're absolutely correct. I plan on doing the Thunderstorm conversion sometime in the next year or so.

  • I am thinking about doing the same thing.

  • Slash cut drag pipes FTW!!!!! SE is as big of a joke as Harley themselves. Good vid, nice bike :)

  • get them baffles out of there

  • Great video man! Pretty hard to decide changing my mufflers!!! Honestly: dind`t notice MUCH difference between original ones and S.E! Thanks from Brazil!!!

  • @fabiowd10 ... I didn't notice much difference either, as far as sound goes. But there WAS a noticeable increase in horsepower.

  • @fabiowd10 Are yours stage one or 2 because my stage 2 make a big different from stock sound and power.

  • i took my baffles out and noticed a little more power. but i just like the sound most of all. and mason city iowa? thats only 3 hours north of me

  • Rock & Roll dude That,s it

  • Should have gone straight piped.

  • @RidX4Ricers The problem with straight pipes is the net loss of horsepower. They sound awesome, but my primary reason for doing ANY upgrade was to gain horsepower.

  • nice vid, put the same on my sporty, but put "big city thunder" baffles in them, made just for the screamin eagle mufflers, unreal difference, check their website! For the ultimate Harley sound!

  • Well done. Very helpful. Thanks!!

  • @cheetncat Very happy that I could be of service.

  • I like how you made the before and after. that's really cool. good job!

  • YES YES! THANK YOU! YOUR THE MAN! GOD BLESS YOU! LOL this is exactly what i was looking for!

  • Have it done??? do it your self yuppy!!

  • @Greenmarine6 I've rebuilt many engines from the ground up, and done countless other do-it yourself projects, up to and including building my own canoe. I've reached a point where I no longer enjoy doing engine work. If that makes me a yuppy, so be it. But make no mistake, I've done my time turning wrenches.

    And Semper Fi, brother.

  • Great video, very helpful, thank you for posting.

  • şekerim bok gibi ses çıkartıyor motorun. kusura bakma ama gerçek bu.

  • Thanks for posting. Next time I take my '09 FLHT in for service I am getting the SE fatshotz slip ons and the SE low profile air intake. I love my electraglide the way it is but the stock exhaust note is a little wimpy for a 96 CU inch engine

  • Hi!

I really love that sound!...But i donn't know the difference between:

    -S.E , S.E II and S.E. slip on...Could u help me. please!?

    I have a 2008 Soprtster 1200

  • Thanks a lot! you did a great job...I'm going to change my pipes...and i really like screaming eagle...cool sound!

I want to buy them because i guess they have the harley sound and they don't make too much mess...

    Greetings from Italy!

  • hey man quick question 4 you..........i changed my oil today and noticed when I emptyed the oil tank through the drain hose the first little bit of oil that came out was a bit milky looking(about 2 teaspoons) any ideas..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????????? cheerz wayne

  • What you got there is a good old fashioned case of semen in your oil. Got any friends that would play a joke like that on you?

  • have you noticed when you start your bike when it is cold the motor doesnt make much noise,,,,,,,,but after about 10 miles or so your motor sounds like it does in this video!!!!!!!!!!!

    (mine does!!!)

  • i have a 1200 a buddy has a 883

we switched for acouple miles one day, and there is a HUGE difference in horsepower. obviously sine the motor size difference. Depending on what you use your bike for the sportster is a great bike. I love my sportster. My dad has a big honda cruiser and he trys to ride my sportster whenever he can

  • Oh yeah, there's a MAJOR difference. I test-rode a 1200 last fall at a dealer-sponsored demo ride.

  • cheerz for writing back........wayne

  • is the motor noise normal(my 06 sounds just like yours!!!! my has 21000 miles on it how about yours??????????????

  • I've talked to a few mechanics (not just Harley dealers) and they say not to worry. Based on my own experience with car engines, I suspect it's a lifter.

The engine has sounded like this virtually since buying it. It's a little annoying, but the thing runs like a tank!

I'm hoping to convert the engine to a 1200 -- maybe this winter. When that happens, I'll fix the lifter noise as well.

  • awesome machine

  • Nice upgrade! Bro any Harley is cool in my book.

  • Sporties are cool. Nice and slim. And your bike looks a lot like the one I would have.

Ride what you like. This is America.

  • i dont see y people say stuff like "ur a pussy 4 ridin a sportster" sportsters have been around for more than 50 years, alot people have them, and they are one of the faster bikes in harley's line up

  • Very rarely do I hear any negative comments about riding a sportster. Yeah, the folks who ride the bigger bikes occasionally rib me, but I take it for what it is... good-natured teasing. Nothing more, nothing less.

As for the speed thing, I would have to respectfully disagree with you. I took a demo ride toward the end of last summer, and I would say that my little 883 was slow... especially when compared to a Sporty 1200, a Dyna, or a straight-up Softtail.

  • well i have a 04' Sporty 1200C, I stay right next to dynas and softails, my sister has a 883., i do agree that they r a bit slow

  • good video man - sportster is a great harley

  • my mum has screamin eagles and they sound way differnt on her sportster

  • Idle sounds better after - not quite so much chugging.

  • at last a man after my own heart thanks for posting your video it helps us rookies to make the right choice first time more power to your elbow

  • This was great to school people on possible changes. I have a 91' sporty, with 170,000 miles on it. The biggest changes were a Wide Glide triple tree, Ape Hangers, 16"front tire,BELT-to-CHAIN on the final. Oil the chain with your umbrella valves(top of valve covers) using gas line.Rock Hard,Ride Free

  • Oh yeah, now she is singing just like a Harley should!

  • Very helpful video. Thank you.

  • Hey there, my wife have a XL883L like yours with a stock mufflers, and I want to upgrade her bike with a Screamin' Eagle II Mufflers, so can you please give me the part number of the SE Mufflers you install on your bike??? My wife's Sporty is carburated....

  • I forgot to tell, my Wife's Sporty is a 2006 883L. Thanks.

  • I don't know the part number. I just called up my friendly neighborhood Harley Dealer and let him do the legwork.

  • That's a familiar sound from when mine was a young pup. Cool stuff

  • Thank you for the video a lot of help. I have the Sportster 883 CustomXL 2007. I want to change the original legal pipes that is now fitted (very quite) and get that sound we are all after. In idle and in cruise.I live in Greece getting a set of pipes all the way from the States is long and expensive enough. I don't mind if the sound level is illegal (as long as I dont wake up the dead). I will apriciate any advice, Thank you.

    RIDE ON,,,from Athens-Greece

  • I'm glad to help.

  • I went with Rush on mine. I'm quite happy

  • Finally someone does a before and after. Very helpful to me. Not too interested in Screamin' Eagle, Kindof a Rinehart guy, but this was extrememly helpful.

  • In retrospect, I prefer the Vance and Hines sound, but it's a little late now.

  • sounds much better when you rev up, great approach to video changes.

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • I have a XL1200R 04 Sportster with SE II slip ons and SE air filter, buke sounds better, maybe you have the newer type SE slip ons or maybe it's because mines the carb model?

  • I think it's because of the slip-ons, because I have the carb too. (2006 is the last model that came with a carb.)

  • take the baffels out i did it too sound alot betteri thenk youll be happyer

  • pull the baffles out completly and put exhaust cones, then it'll sound like a big bike. thats what i did... i was very pleased.

  • Thanks for the video! Good job!

  • Thank you very much for Posting this video. Very very cool and very informative. It doesnt really sound like a big difference. I have a 2008 Sportster 1200C with Rush Slip Ons. I will post a Video when i get a chance. Thanks!!!!!!!!

  • I'm 6'1" with an XLC and am fine. Forward controls make a huge difference. I could only afford a Sportster as well...otherwise I would have bought a fat boy. Take a safety course and get out there and ride. It's not WHAT you ride, but THAT you ride.

  • Very informative video, thank you for putting this up.

  • I can't really answer that question for a couple of reasons... I'm kind of biased, and I don't know what your frame is like. You could be tall and lanky or an all-around big guy. This is something that can be more adequately answered by a friend than by me.

Additionally, I think it's more important that you get a bike, rather than holding out for the perfect ride. I say this as a guy that had a little 450 in my early 20's and then waited 20 years for the next bike.

  • good job ty

  • Just to clarify: I took out the baffle bolts cold, pulled the baffles hot and running(don't touch anything with your hands), and put the new baffles in when it cooled down some but not completely cool. Don't want you burning yourself.

    Hope this helps.

  • Unfortunatley I don't have a video to show but I found an instrucional video on here titled "Install Thunder monster on Harley". This guy was lucky enough to get his baffles out with pliers but I had to use the wire handle from a 5 gal bucket with a hook bent in the end and hook it in the holes in the baffle. The BCT baffles don't look like there's much to them but they must be tuned right because my rike runs great and shows no signs of being out of tune.

  • Dude, thanks for the follow-up. I really appreciate it.

  • Thunder Monster baffles by Big City Thunder.

No popping or backfiring. I passed inspection with them in. The hardest part was pulling the old baffles out. I took out the retaining bolts and with the bike warmed up and running they came out but a few revs helped too. Once in, I loved them instantly, I didn't even have to rejet. Just look up Big City Thunder on the net and read about them.

  • That was me.

The bike already had the SE mufflers and SE air cleaner when I picked it up new from the dealer. I'm not sure if they jetted the card or adjusted it. All I know is I didn't have to change anything after putting in the Big City Thunder Baffles. They make several different baffles but they may a direct fit for the Screamin Eagle II's like the ones that came with my 06. Just put them in and roll. I tried no baffles too but it sounded loud and hollow. Can't beat the BCT setup.

  • Crap!!

A guy recently left a comment saying that he different baffles in his s/e exhaust. He said that it's throatier without being obnoxious, the baffles were easy to install and they only cost $100.

I'm intrigued by this approach. Did the carb need to be re-jetted a second time? Does anyone have a video with different baffles?

  • Nah, only need to rejet again if new cams are installed

  • i prefer my vance and hines and scream'n eagle

    also get a 1200 :)

  • I plan to convert my bike to a 1200 next winter. I got what I can reasonably afford.

  • Cycle shacks sounds rocks !! I put a slash cut pair on my Sporty '07 (you can see the video on YouTube). The sounds is too loud for big cities (I live in Paris, France), I have changed with US mufflers modified.

  • I agree... the Cycle Shacks give great sound. I also like how you posted stock, modified stock and cored stock mufflers for a comparison.

  • I ran across a little factiod... don't know if it's true or not... There's a rumor that Cycle Shack slip-ons are the exact same thing as Screamin' Eagles, except there's no logo. If that's true, you can certainly save some money by going with the Cycle Shack slip-ons.

  • Have a 883 R 07. With regard to my neighbours and the German police I won't upgrade my pipes... Great vid, though. Greetings from Germany

  • 9iide: I don't believe the pipes are loud enough to irritate your neighbors and the police. If you're dead-set against upgrading though, you should still tweak your intake. Your engine will run cooler, your pipes won't turn gold and blue (at least not as quickly) and you'll get better performance. Check with your mechanic first, though. I don't know what the emissions laws are like in Germany.

  • Nothin' quite like the sound of a GSXR 1000 with carbon fibre yoshimura race exhausts!!

  • Happy to help folks. I have a friend with a 2003 (Anniversary Edition) Sportster 883 and the V&H pipes. I plan to do a recording of his pipes and post that as well. I may do a drive-by too.

  • awsome man, i have a 07 1200 custom and i was going between the vance and hines slip ons and the screaming eagle but now im going to do the screaming eagle, thanks man!!

  • awesome video! You are right I was tryng to decide if I should get new pipes and I didnt have a before and after idea of the change. Thanks for putting this up!
