this is surely the best version of this joint song, and Tonight is one of the top, if not the best, EJ's songs... so this makes this video something you should watch over abd over if you appreciate EJ's music!
As with all Elton accomplishments, this is a gem. But it it so masterful in its command of emotion...this one. Beautiful song; Intrigued many a young girl with this song Explores the common bickering and fighting that men and women experience in life; a waste of important time.
Just beautiful - As with many of his songs this one kept me sane through many low parts of my life. Music that you can cry to or love to - who could ask for more!
This is possibly my favourite piece of all time. I can't go near a piano without playing it!! I played this and carla etude as part of my A level 2 years ago. Wish i had an orchestra...
This is out on disc, I own it, its a big dvd with 3 concerts and some history on him. One of the discs is him performing in Ephesus, one is in Madison Square Garden (with other artists like Billy Joel and Anastacia) and the third one is this concert.
I love this song, it is the same arraignment that is on the Live With Melbourne Symphony Orchestra concert/album , which I was fortunate enough to attend, except he didn't segue from Carla Etude at that concert. What a great entertainer the man is! The world is a better place cause he has shared his talent & out music to Taupins words.
beautiful song, lol at 5:24 its sounds like hes going to say ' would love to see you simle today, instead of tonight, that would of been funny, this was an awesome concert.
I agree. As I posted on another video, an acoustic grand piano like Steinway or Yamaha sounds really better (watch the video Tonight - Live 77 for example).
However I understand the choice of Sir Elton: a digital piano is easier to carry, no tuning, many sound (like the EP when he plays Daniel)...
For me, one of the best piano he used is the Steinway in Live in Russia 79, both deep and bright.
No tuning?? Then why does he have his own piano-tech and tuner travel with him?? Because what he plays is a 100% NORMAL piano, that is run through a MIDI patch in the soundboard, allowing Clive Franks his sound engineer to orchestrate other sounds and the volume, etc. When you hear chimes, echos, etc, Clive is doing that - Elton's just playing like normal. Piano is tuned b4 EVERY performance. He has 4 Yamaha's but prefers 1 in particular that he almost always uses.
A lovely song. Such a shame he doesn't use a decent acoustic grand piano like a Steinway or Bosendorfer. The thing he's playing in this video sounds like a cheap keyboard (even though I bet it cost tens of thousands of quid!).
As a hick town Canadian kid growing I too was amazed with EJ. I conned my sister's into buying his albums/records and I even watched him on Soul Train. When he axed his original band I was upset but still bought Blue Moves and this song has been with me ever since. I finally saw EJ in Sudbury Ontario this year. He played a hick town by choice. He played this song. God Bless EJ, his band(s), Bernie and all of the Hick towns out there.
I have seen elton perform 24 times and as much as I love all the big chart hit's, for me being in the audience when he performed this with the orchestra and choir from the royal acadamy was MY ELTON JOHN MOMENT of all time.
I too have seen him many times and I thought the concert he did in Australia was his all time high, but this concert was the best. Its all about the orchestra backing him.I first saw him at Carnegie Hall in New York in the early 70's he was the opening act. You don't stay on top this long without getting better.
I have saw Elton Many times live here in Scotland, had the pleasure of hearing this song live at the Glasgow appolo many years ago...Brilliant entertainer even to the present day...Live forever Rocket Man !!!!!

This video is so much easier to see than the last one I watched. The lighting is better and i can actually see Sir Elton playing the piano. Good job.

Absolutely agree. Fanfare is basically an instrumental introduction to Chloe, and the transition between the two is sublime.
