hey whats up MC, im sorry if you already answered this but what do you do exactly to "learn and experience" the language when studying? for example what kind of activities or resources? im learning mandarin btw. thanks from toronto!
@africaRBG I'd say to study from a text book then watch media on that language. And the reason I say watch media is because it's best way to retain knowledge by seeing it and look back and remember. like "hey I know this I watched it on etc." And right there my friend you just made an experience. good luck studying man!
I agree with you MC, I like this info a lot. However, I have a question. So how do you learn Kanji? I have the Remembering the Kanji book part 1, so how do I study w/o memorizing the kanji? Are the mnemonics supposed to help you learn? I think it helps, but still, memorizing is still important in keeping up with the stories of RTK. What do you think?
memorizing and studying works hand in hand you have to remember what you study so when you use in a natural experience you then can only truly understand and learn what you have study and memorized, bt some people have really strong memory
@rinneganhero memorizing is just short term in general, if you fixate on one thing to long and not reach for experiences which bond your memory, learning just gets harder. Imagine memorizing Kanji or Hanzi its over 55,000 characters and most people know at least 5000. Do you think they really memorized 5000 on their own? no they had experiences that bonded them to it.
@ThaaMCchannel idk if that comment was directed to that rinneganhero guy or me but I totally agree. Most of the kanji I learned came from words I heard from animes/movies/books, I can't imagine learning kanji from a workbook. >:O
I think one should go about studying language through input based resource. There are plenty of exorcises such as translating pieces of writing, passive listening, etc. Things that give you a base to remember the words you learned. Rather than just trying to remember words/kanji off of lists or something.
@HookemHorns972 You study till the point you feel that you have [understanding] it naturally not forced.People don't move on to other words and grammar because they are to fixated on the first thing they learned. Remember, my video on The Power of Repetition? play a video game till you master it then [move on] learning a language is on going so I thought people would understand that. so now in short I will say [Evole or Die] learn my friend not memorize.

その通りっすよな。俺の中国語の勉強についてね,一つずつの言葉を習うと言うより中国語で書いた小文とかを読んだり。そうするともっと自然に言葉を習ってます。日本語を始まったときにもそういうことを勘違いしちゃったね。ただの語彙リストで日本語が流暢になるなんてあり得ないよな。中国語と言えば,全部中国語でビデオを作るかどうかな?:D
