....RE scanner and Taking control of ONES OWN LIFE ,Rather being oblivious to reality and thinking The Gov will safe us PFFFT! People MUST take more control . having that scanner i was able to ring SOOO many friends and they all listened as like most, had NO IDEA what was coming..And to finish i lost family friends , our local tanker was torced on ASH wednesday so thought i was prepared..In saying what i have re scanners etc i STILL didnt evacuate..No one knew fire could act that way!!!!!!!!!!
The simpleton that has been bagging people on this post.....
I had a 230 degree view from st.andrews of the Whole of the kinglake range...
AND had a scanner. ALL CFA members have gone Mental at me for having 1!! OMG!!! Everyone complains and blames the cfa and websites, 3lo etc etc...
GROW the f up!!! with my scanner i knew second by second what was happening Aswell as being able to hear the Elvis Helibomber and others too on our back hill chatting to each other on radio...
You could also feel it in your bones the day before that this day was going to be bad. Not sure why more was not done in evacuating people on the Friday..
My heart still aches for those that didnt make it and their families. Such a beautiful place and beautiful people. Why werent they warned what was about to hit them? CFA command (not the volunteers on the ground) hasnt taken responsibility for its failures and that disgusts me totally.
It makes me so sad. Those poor people. Such a beautiful place to live. Everything has a price, but even this seem unfair. Like a distant nightmare to most watching, I can only try to imagine the grief and loss these people went through. May the deceased rest in peace. May the living restore the beauty in the face of horror by rebuilding, learning, and never forgetting the loss it took!!
it so sad to see all the cars o the road burnt on the road and to see that horse lye the dead on the side of the road..last friday i went to buxton. i never knew how much the fire had riped throght. but my frinds place was still standing with 8 horses.
*sighs* ill never forget that day i drove through this too when we went to look for food for ourselves and our horses, my house is standing but everything else is gone........
I lived in Kinglake from the 60's to the mid 80's on a chook farm on Rifle Range road just off of Beale Avenue. I went to Whittlesea primary school for 5 years too! Looking at the devastation the fire left behind, I'm speechless. It was one of the most beautiful places on this earth almost comparable to the bushland around Margaret River or Pemberton WA. Long live Kinglake and please donate.
Thanks, it will be interesting an eerie at the same time, i have seen some footage shot of Pine Ridge rd and i can imagine that National prk rd will look the same.
So far we have not seen any footage of National park rd.
this is a really sad video you did a really good job as someone who dosen't live in the bush i will never know what any of you went through but just know that my heart and throughts and prayers are with you all to all the victims who lost their lives we will never forget you may i ask what the name of both songs you used and who sings them
when i saw this video i seriously just cried... the road i drive everyday.. just looks completely different... absolute devestation!!! but everyone there is tough!! built tough.. and they will get through it.. R.I.P Penny, Mel, Mac and Neeve and everyone else who unfortunately lost their lives that horrible day
I did ask my auntie. She said that the name was familiar and that she was going to check it against the Red Cross board that they have sat up in Kinglake West. Most of Kinglake and Pheasant Creek are raised to the ground but there aresome areas still standing. I will be sure tolet you know when I do.
And seeing viedo footage of where it was with a massive huge great big -wall of flames- approaching the town and there's people -standing there doing nothing!-
Of course I'll question why people didn't just run away. If you, or anyone else, get offended by that it's not my problem.
But there is no excuse for childish name calling especially to that degree.
I deleted my terrible hurtful comments and decievedchild didn't and that's where the difference lays.
As I mentioned earlier, there are just no need for slinging matches and yes, you did have a right to enquire. As everyone does. I am not having a go at you by any stretch of the imagination so please don't take it that way. Thankyou for removing the comments but, as you seem like a decent human being, refrain from posting them in the first place. You are better than that. Thanks for the explaination and take care.
My comments were made in spite, yes. And they were very hurtful, yes that was my intention.
I removed them because I felt terrible stooping that low.
But let's all take a look at -why- I said them and re-read decievedchild's post.
That's insulting. I didn't deserve it.
When someone asks a legitimate quesion, and let's face it, it was a legitimate question as I obviously had no idea as to how horrific the situation was ..
When someone asks a question then it should be answered with civility.
Yes I have. Its pretty horrible. Not a great deal left anywhere really. The bakery and corner store still stand as does the hardware store so they were lucky. Hope all of your friends are ok. Even though you werent there, I understand that there would still be a sense of loss for you.
i know it may seem strange but are you able to take any footage of national park rd in the vicinity of Ryan rd?Yes it was a great shock to us all and kind of like a turning point in a way of us thinking what if..... what if we were still there would we still be alive today? I know one of our neighbors house survived.
I do as a matter of fact. I will post it soon and call it " National Park Rd" Pheasant Creek or something like that. Be prepared though. It is one of the worst streets I saw on my trip up there after the fires.
where in pheasant creek did your auntie and uncle live? How's kinglake now? i have wached so many videos on this crisis and every one i see it just makes me cry. I live in new zealand and i lust want to go over to kinglake and help. Is kinglake the worst hit area in the whole of Victoria
my father , Rex Norris was with Tina and the kids,he went there the day before and perished alongside them.Dad and Tina were like father and daughter and her kids called him pop
Ok, so firstly I would like to say that slinging matches are just silly however, I think it may be a case of the pot calling the kettle black in this case SevenExxes. The comments posted by you ( that have since been removed) were the furthest thing from mature that I have seen in a very long time. They were plain nasty and uneducated. My 6 year old wouldn't even imagine saying the things that you said. I believe that weare all entitled to an opinion and, from an outsiders point of view...
... and with nothing but media reports to inform you of the situation, I can understand why you would question why people didn't just get out. The fact is that most people were going about their daily business as usual and, before they had any warning at all, these fires were on their doorsteps. The wind was travelling approx 160kph that day and fires were spotting up to 20km from the firefront. It was just too fast.
All I am saying as that you should check into things a bit more before you go saying nasty, hurtful and downright horrible things ( that you really shouldn't say regardless of the situation).
decievedchild was obviously and understandably upset by your comments. These fires generally hit small communities where most people know each other. Almost everyone in each of these towns lost someone they knew. I am sure that many of them would have left if they had just had the chance.
you fuckwit, we had no TIME to run away! one minute it was in kilmore and 15 minutes later it was ontop of us and it was too late to get out! it was through the town in less than half an hour! NOBODY COULD GET OUT YOU FUCKING MORON!
Hey jhaninelove, would you be able to ask your uncle and auntie if they know the Gent family who lived in Pheasant Creek because i want to give money to them please.
I am an Aussie friend of barclaysintexas also living in Texas, USA. I am from Bendigo, born & breed. I have cried many a tear for barclaysintexas, her family & friends, Bendigo, Victoria & for Australia. As I said to barclaysintexas, I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you to be so far from home at a time like this. Thankyou for your kind words and I sincerely hope that all of your friends and family are safe and well. I too am a bit of a music geek so appropriate music was a must! Music does soothe the soul and is often the best medicine.
I am an Exton who grew up in Kinglake Central just near the footy oval. I have been living in Texas in the USA for the past 10 months. I cannot believe our town has gone. It is heart breaking to know of family and friends that are suffering at the moment. Love to all you Lakers from one Laker to Another. xoxoxo
I am sorry that you are so faraway at this time. I can't imagine how difficult it would be for you.
You know the community of Kinglake well enough to know that they are tough buggers and won't let it beat them. It will be back bigger and better than ever. I hope all of your friends and family are safe and well.
To Barclaysintexas: You mean there are other Extons NOT living here, Barclay?? Ha, just kiddin'. To everyone else: They've even got a whole big ROAD named after that family. Just as well the extended Exton families allowed a few outsiders in or we'd end up like Tassie. Ha, just kidding again. All the best to all the Extons.
Thanks for the insight into the fires. That's one hellava fire front. Imagine what the bush fire would of been like before white man forged this country. Probably would of burned for months? Glad your ok and the communties will rebuild the towns better than ever.
My heart goes out to all who have been effected by these devastating fires. Your video really brings it home! This beautiful place will grow again and the wonderful people of the community will prevail! I cannot express how moving this whole event has been.

It is really sad. So sorry to hear about your friends yet so glad to know that it was only their homes that were lost and not their lives. Us Aussies are tough and, in times like these we are at our strongest which truly leads me to believe that the area will certainly recover in time. Thankyou for your comment and take care. xo
it is a very bad thing that has happened. i gave my work bonus and all the other BP owned emloyees gave their bonus too. it was about $120 to the fire victims. one of our employees lost their home at King Lake. i also donated about 20 disney sheet sets that i had that i dint sell on ebay. they were all brand new in packets. some little girl or boy will hopefully find some joy with them. i had my cousin from Holland email me asking if we were ok cause they heard about the fires.
Thats so lovely. I am certain that everyone would appreciate it. Every cent really counts. The entire community will need so much support both emotionally and financially to re build their lives as well as all of those things that we take for granted like the sheets that you so generously donated. Bless your kindness. xo
