  • If this is confusing you'll never be able to lace your rims

  • CONFUSIIINNNGGG

  • hello i really need to know

is this 3 cross lacing reeaaalllyyyy nneeeddd ttooo knooww

good vids and verry clear keep it up

  • Thank you¡

  • prety shit hub!

  • nope

  • oh fuck it, i got lost, the rim is all scratched...good thing this is just a rim just for testings and not the rims i paid 25 dollars to have powdercoated!

  • is this a 3 cross lacing method??

  • center of my wheel is no turning ?

  • @billabongxx1 its your hub then your spokes dont effect the turning just the durrobillity

  • Hello, i work at a Dutch bike shop(fixes bikes and sells new bikes) and i have spoken much wheel's, but the Shimano Nexus 8 Speed would not work at the last step(over, over, under) the spokes just need a little bit more length, The costumer that owns this wheel asked us to make an new rim on it(So we have the same original Gazelle rim ordered) and we called Gazelle and they told us that it is imposible that it is not fixing.... So what to do now....

  • nice video! but one thing about the first 9 spokes.. after the over over under you say to skip a hole, i think its important to point out that you skip the hole because it is meant for the spokes from the other side. most wider rims would actually have holes drilled in the rim from side to side, making it easier to tell which spokes go where. on a skinny road rim i could see it being a bit more confusing. still though, you show how to make a wheel without a step skipped! well done and thanks!

  • @kragstips Yes, and it is obvious because you never want two spokes from the same side of the flange next to each other on the rim. If you think that way it is very obvious where the first outside spoke lands.

  • Thank you soo much

Thought I wasn't gonna bike for a while lol

  • Amazing video.. i go fine but 2:35 im lost because my english is not the best... i try to learn and see again.

    Greetings

  • that looks really complicated at first :l why wouldent you drop all the spokes then lace the rim up to the hub? thats the way i do it and its not as complicated. just saying, and asking

  • So.... How do you start it?

  • @theqwertyguy00

it is in the other video, part 2.1

  • look im having the same problem as @richminiturbo your reply back to him/her, doesnt make sense one bit im not retarded or anything i just dont understand how you wrote it to him, i cant even get anywhehre nearing lacing the last step :/, i have laced it all except the last step and its frustrating, how do i fix this problem, can you give a better explanation or something.

    many thanks alex

  • WELL THANKYOU. I that me... built a wheel took alot of patients but i made no mistakes. Trueing the wheel is the most painfull part don't make you adjustments too big or your rim can turn oval shaped! THANKS!!

  • Very clear and logical. Good instructons.

One thing: It wasn't till the closeup around 5:30 min that it became clear to me (1) that the spokes are inserted from opposite sides of a given flange (though I could have discovered that by looking at a bike wheel), and (2) that the "over, over, under" rule results from inserting the "inner" series of spokes first, and the outer series second.

  • That actually looks like my worst nightmare!

  • BRASS NIPPLES HAHA

  • @dedimul Go be immature some where else.

  • You did a great job on this video. It's been way to many years since I built a wheel up, and thanks to you,it was pretty easy. I'm actually proud of my wheels now!! Thanks!

  • awesome man ! excellent tutorial, I love it, really helpful and funny, I had great time watching it, and I built my wheel right !! :-))

  • this is the easiest video for building wheels thanks , i seen this last year and now i can build sweet wheels man- thanks biketube

  • this video sucks.. i tried lacing the last 18... and none!! none!! of the spokes reached the holes where they needed to go.. i hate this video

  • @TheKillswitchable its not video its you, this vid helped me a lot. just keep trying and you'll get it, took me 3 tries!

  • eww2 dude its zoomed in on his dick delete the video

  • I tried It 3 time And it does not work and the spokes r the right size and everthing is right and it does not f***ing work

  • are you self taught?

  • i have a eclat hud and this dosent work

  • @duckducksausage yeah eclat hubs are different u need different spokes and everything, just get the bikeshop to do it

  • Bless you, my son...

  • i painted my spokes and my rim before and while i was doing this the paint was chipping like crazy.

  • i thank you for the video.but you should turn the wheel 180 so we can follow as you go...not to turn our heads like a bird to see where you are.

  • @donniedarko88888 nope its ok :) i got it the second time.worked like a charm.ty

  • what should i write to the spoke lenght calculator to the cross pattern if i want to make this type of building? 3 or 4? :) thx

  • It may be worth noting that if you turn the hub one way the crossed spokes will limit access to the valve. Turn it the other way and it's fine. I found this out after only three spokes so it was ok. Thanks for the lesson. Lots of the online guides overcomplicate things.

  • This is so weird, my over over under miss a hole left me with the out side spoke going towards the inside spoke hole, god know why? So i didn't skip one, and it works, then you look at sheldon brown site, ghee gets more confussing, lol good video

  • good video, this maybe I can manage!

  • Brass nipple would totally be an awesome name for a band !

  • is it the same way for a 32 spoke wheel??any body know

  • You are a gentleman and a scholar

  • hardest thing ive ever done in my life.

  • same

  • Could I spoke 18 on a 36 without the hub rotated, and not die horrendously when the wheel hits a small bump? I like the looks of the straight 18, and heard it's a bit more aero, can anyone confirm?

  • you can but its not recommended with regular spokes, carbon spokes are Ok for that job.

but firstly make sure that the right spoke configuration will work for that rim.

  • I can see why he uses the goggles..one of those could take yur eye out..

  • this.. kinda reminds me of, basket weaving.

  • that doesent work

  • very vwery good ty

  • this video is a good look into wheel building.

but doesn't supply important information such as relieving spokes, and do's and don'ts.

  • Currently in the works

  • wtf i get to the ovver over under part and everytime i end up dropping my nipple into the rim and cant get it out its so dam frustrating

  • i get to the other side of "over over under" with the last spokes and my spoke dosent seem to get anywhere near close enough to the hole so i can screw the nipple on wtf its gettin on my nerves so bad could any1 help me here

  • try to loosen up all your nipples a bit, this will make the spokes have more room to bend so you can squeeze your spoke through.

i hope your spokes were correctly measured.

  • go grab a beer and then go to the next step

  • how do u know how much to twist the hub before doing the over over under " because when i twist my hub too its max, i have to almost bend the spokes 45 degrees

  • awesome set of videos, really detailled and methodical!

  • hey

    thank you very much

i thought what an idiot job this was

but i cant tell u how much u helped me

but thank you very much you helped me alot

i couldent stop laughin when you said

you probly here watching this video cause you screwed up before lmao

    so true

  • anyone???

  • In what direction are we supposed to turn the hub and how far?

  • thanx heaps man, helped me heaps, it took me two goes, but i got it in the end, cheers!

  • thanks work well it was so much easyer then the other guy the one from empire bmx

  • how do you do lacing on the inide of rim so you dont grind trough it

  • you have to bend the spokes so you dont scratch the rim

  • Arrrrgh I get to lacing the last eight (over, over, under) and manage to get the nipples on about 4, but the others just dont reach far enough.

I have the right length spokes, I though I might have over tightened some so i loosened some off just a little, and as soon as I try lacing the last few, nipples start pinging off everywhere. its driving me mad mad mad!!

  • Remember that the holes on either side of the flange dont line up, so if you look at a spoke the spoke directly behind it on the rim should line up with the hole on the opposite side of the flange, slightly behind the other spoke. Therefore the distances are the same around the entire rim. Or you just tightened the nipples too much. Let me know how it goes. Other problems could be a bent rim or inconsistent spoke lengths.

  • @richminiturbo If the nipples won't reach, why not just get some longer nipples? I'd just do that, it may make your wheel look different to other people because some of your nipples are a few mm longer but who cares, you have a bike and they dont :)

  • kick ass!

  • Great video, have you posted part 3 yet?

  • Thanks keith,

Part 3 will be up very soon, a day or two!
