  • @lumine12354 2008

  • jumbbabadibadabda

  • Does anyone know what year this was recorded?

  • 1:20 -> 1:34 Stressful !

  • okay, the ONLY reason to that i did watch this is that it is homework in music!

  • @legolverstaale Maybe later on time you´ll come back to this piece and appreciate it better, when it won´t be a schol assignment, :-)

  • I love the refrain ♥

  • love it when the brass instruments come in they give the peice so much depth! its just awesome then when they are all together amazing!

  • Used for a dance in the latest Pride and prejudice movie, knew I recognized it! Thanks

  • @Greya77 The original theme is by Henry Purcell, an English musician and composer from the 17th century. Mr. Britten took it and made this wonderful piece for young people, to get to know the instruments of the orchestra.

  • Used for a dance in the latest Pride and predjudice movie, knew I recognized it! Thanks

  • thye look so cute

  • Where is the second part??

  • Holy freaking crap this sucks.

  • c'est magnifique

  • This piece is good but I've heard it too many tiiiiimes... -_-

  • j addoreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • haha, the pink string players are faggots as usual :p - grtz The Horns

  • @Misterslidedropper A very high brow comment....

  • I'm only here because of school. We have to listen to this for our exams.

  • It's a nice song but If you practice that with my musicteacher you just can hate it.

  • Orch. of the City of Birmingham?

  • @cb77305 that would be my guess now that's I'm more educated since that was the ensemble Rattle conducted when this looks like it was made.....

  • I lol'ed at the lady's hair moving from the cymbals

  • @OneEndedStick fuck

  • 1. Strings 2. Woodwinds 3. Brass 4. Strings 5. Percussion 6. Violins (Strings) 7. Flutes (woodwinds) 8. Oboe (woodwinds) 9. Clarinets(woodwinds) 10. Bassoon (woodwinds) 11. Violins (Strings) 12. • that is some BEAUTIFUL oboe playing. Wow

  • @Puffstababe Definatly, the oboe variation is probably my favorite, next to the cellos

I'm an oboist, by the way

  • This is an amazing orchestra. The shifting of the major to a minor scale and then back to a major , is done very smoothly, which plays with my emotions. I love how the instruments play back and forth, like a question and answer, or repeating. It gives this piece a lot of personality. Well conducted.

  • @j3551ca86 Yes the different colored shirts allow students and individuals still learning the orchestra and its elements, to have a great visual aid. The conductor's facial expressions as he is conducting is very well synchronized with how the music should be played. He goes from a sad sort of calm look to a very enthusiastic and excited expression, which signals to the orchestra how they should play (7:50). I really like that the strings are assembled on either side.

  • amazingg

  • The cello variation is so beautiful

  • The different coloured shirts for the different sections of the orchestra...

    This is totally adorable.

  • das haben wir in der schule gerade =)

  • Bass variation at 7:44!

  • 0:27 poor piccolo player looks like the conductor secretly smeared a little poop on his piccolo before they started playing

  • A mullet or two, great playing & Rattle, I guess The Berlin kotetsu...yes.... another mullet confirms this.

  • 2:50

    iCarly's teacher.

  • where's the rest!!! I want more :) These two videos are extremely helpful in learning the sounds of the instruments... Now we need the videos with the harp, french horns, trumpets, trombones, tuba and the conclusion of the piece.

  • fast, but clear and quite wonderful. I still prefer Michael Tilson Thomas' version

  • Great video! How I can get the last part? Do you know if this video is available on DVD? I have not found it on the web (only Simon Rattle's audio cd…). Many thanks. Best regards from Italy

  • Dear sir, is it possible to get the second halg of the recording as I like it very much and I need it for teaching purpose?

  • Excellent! Really helps me with my music class.

  • Excellent!

  • you notice how the only people that like this are academics... whats up with that, i have to listen to this for hw in my comm college class. : /

  • @samfrazier5000 By academics I assume you mean teachers, and no, they are not the only ones who like it. I am a college student, was asked to listen to this for my music appreciation class, and I really like it!

  • A Black bassoonist. Yes! As a Black musician I am happy to finally see some representation in orchestras.

  • @elainebmack Check out the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra, ande the Teresa Carreno Youth Orchestra. Or google "rattle infantil" You'll see many Afro-Venezuelans. We need a lot more representation in the orchestras including Latinos.

  • @alejoeisabel I'll check these out. Thanks for the tip!

  • @elainebmack

Are you suggesting that there has been discrimination within orchestras until this point? That's ridiculous.

  • @SammyStyle . Sorry to disappoint you, but yes, there has been plenty of discrimination in the hiring practices of orchestras.

  • @elainebmack Yes and there's a left handed violin player! My day has been made.

  • @elainebmack

Yep. it's definitely odd, never noticed that before.

I mostly listen to Jazz from 50/60s, maybe classical music is not expressive enough as an individual etc ?

  • yeah! the violas rock!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whoa! Did anyone else see the violist playing on her right shoulder at 6:05 !?

  • Not surprising that they give the most beautiful theme of all to the oboes :)!

  • a very great song;) he want to be the big herschafft at the world muhaha;)

  • this sounds amazing!

  • a long time i searched for the song =)

a only knew the name "Benjamin" of the componist but noch song title and the full name

but know i found it =)

  • danke :)) Ich brauch das fuer MusikUNterricht :))

  • This is an awesome video... i'm organizing a workshop for appreciation of orchestral instruments and i want to show this to the class. Can someone teach me how to download this video to pc without having to view it online? thanks

  • Wonderfull BUT... THIS IS NOT THE SECOND PART ... it's the first part. Please someone upload the second.. Thanks!

  • cool

  • Hallo,

    Hi,

does anybody know where I can get the full video (donwload or buy (on DVD)).

    Thank you!

  • i had to watch this for a music class i'm taking. if you are watching this from a teacher's point of view and want to show your class, please don't. sure, it's a great musical piece, but children learn nothing from watching professionals play these elaborate pieces. it only makes them feel like they aren't as good at what they play. you should stop wasting time, and actually teach them how to play an instrument.

  • @broncoempire62 I disagree wholeheartedly. All of us- children included- can learn lots from watching professionals play music well. I don't even know what more to say... I don't even want to know where I would be today as a musician if I wasn't able to listen to great music while simultaneously learning to play myself.

  • then please explain to me how you could possibly learn anything from watching this? all i see are professional musicians playing a piece they have probably practiced for months. after watching this video, what did you come away with? please enlighten me. hands on is the best way to learn any skill. you have to practice yourself, and keep trying when you mess up. just watching complicated pieces and listening to them can only help you hear what is all out there, not learn how to play anything.

  • I'm not trying to say that you will learn how to play like a professional orchestra musician by watching them play, or even that you can learn anything from this specific video. What I am saying is that being a musician is much more involved than simply acquiring a skill. You develop musicianship over time (ideas about what sounds good and what doesn't, about phrasing and tone and communication) by interacting with music in many different ways: listening, playing, experimenting...

  • @broncoempire62 This piece is not to show you HOW to play. The piece is meant for really young children. It is to introduce them to the instrument itself... Not how you should perform or to show off. It is strictly meant to give each section/instrument a chance to shine...

  • @herbert11789 and you are an imbecil.

  • excellent idea to make them wear different coloured shirts for easy identification of section! Anyone know what orchestra this is, I know it's probably not Berlin due to the trumpets not using rotary horns...

  • It's the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra

  • @kotetsu131 It's the Young Person's Guide Orchestra, or something.

  • @drsout The young persons guide to the orchestra is the name of the piece.

Also, why do you feel the need to be so disrespectful, no one here wants to hear your negative comments.

  • @katedecampos97 Sorry, just a little light-hearted joke. I never really encounter this problem because I don't read YouTube comments, they make me very annoyed xD.

  • @kotetsu131 This is the Birmingham City Orchestra.

  • @kotetsu131 And The C extensions on the basses (as opposed to 5 strings) are another giveaway it's not German orchestra.

  • @wks1978 Hmm, I'm a trumpet player unfortunately.....what is a C extension?

  • @kotetsu131 A C extension is a mechanical device attached to the lowest string on the bass(E below the bass staff). It essentially allows the player to lengthen his E string slightly to obtain the pitches from the low E down to the low C(an octave below the cello's lowest string).

  • tutti, cuivres, bois, cordes, percurssion... c'est fantastique

  • i like their pink shirts and the cellos

  • I'm an elementary music teacher teaching the instrument families. Great filming to show each instrument - also love the color coding. Want to show it to my class. Any reason why the rest was taken off of youtube?

  • maitresse I 6c EFP??

Also wir nehmen solche Orchester durchh

  • Hello, I love this music is so amazing for children to understand music instruments and improve there listening skills. I would like to know how can I get the part 2 of this video or the full-length? I'm teaching music class at a youth club, and this will be the best example to demonstrate to my children

    Thank You.

  • I love how this piece brings out the different characteristics of each of the four instrumental families of the orchestra, Especially the percussion solo part. I was very impressed with how that part was written. Then it focuses on each individual section. Gotta love it :)
