Cole and the other announcers are continuously fed lines. As an older fan I recall "Beyond the Mat" showing this as Cole/Lawler would call lines verbatim during the 99 Royal Rumble. People pissed at Cole for being a bad announcer are the same people pissed at Cena for being a poor character when its the machine (writers, road agents, Vince) controlling his direction.

Guys, I interned for the WWE two summers ago. I can't even believe people think Michael Cole is anything other than exactly what he and the writers and talent management want him to be. He is actually, surprise, an incredibly nice man...but having him as a heel announcer (which he is really good at by the way) is good for business. So relax.
