On that comic the main character says "The dog knew!" saying it was chasing him all day. It is also referenced on Invader Zim, by that little chihuahua dog that appears at some episodes.

I remember years ago when this first came out, it had different readings for the whole soundtrack (and it didn't have the puke flying out the door at the end). The sound quality was a lot more crisp, the pet store clerk sounded more chipper... This sounds like someone at Screenblast had themselves a fandub and nobody caught it.
