@xthecometx... This is live from the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin in 2002. Their 40th anniversary concert. Listen to the one uploaded by "AndreasSU," I think the quality is better.
@jallen9343 This is Paddy Reilly who was the lead singer for the Dubliners at the time of this recording. He left The Dubliners in 2005, sadly and was replaced by Patsy Watchorn. They are touring the country at the moment, and are appearing at the Theatre Royal Norwich on March 12th ( a few seats left) where I shall be seeing them. Yippee!
well my family where never free ;( from the evil protestant people :( they made our lives a misery in the north :( but dad once got sent to crumlin road jail for stealing a farmers chicken to feed his kids :( call that brit justice :( ? or prod justice ? more to the point ? but things are changing :) what with sinn fein in power ( soo to speak ) the loyalists will take a lot of braking down :( they are soo used to having everything their own way :( but u never know :) miracles do happen ? :)
@hhalez In the chorus it's: Low lie the Fields of Athenry Where once we watched the small free birds fly (ooh baby let the free birds fly) Our love was on the wing (Sinn Féin) We had dreams and songs to sing (The I.R.A.) It's so lonely 'round the Fields of Athenry and later: Nothing matters Mary if we're free Against the famine, and the crown (fuck the crown)
Paddy Reilly is the the singer on this. The song is from 2002, their 40th reunion. Hope Paddy and Jim will be joining the group in 2012 for the 50th reunion. (All of us are too young to be remembering how long they have been together!)
There the best I love them

The one and only Paddy Reilly - one of the all-time greats of traditional Irish music. Last I heard he is retired in Naples, FL.

Just a pity this ballad has been taken over (but not owned!) by certain fitba supporters (so called!) here in Scotland!
