Nana has a magical and spiritual way of connecting with her tv audience, she has a wonderful pressence, and a fabulously sweet and clear voice, and in my opinion very hot chick indeed.
Does anyone know whether this was recorded on any of her commercially available recordings? I've got the song on a Live album from the Olympia, but I'd love to get a recording of this or more of the actual Greek songs minus the audience noise.
The Athenians with Nana..great group ...real clean...the former "Trio Canzone"....Their rival was 'Trio Belcanto"...I remember I preferred trio canzone because they were more modern sounding ....lol...great song & sound...
JUST FABULOUS... This arrangement brings out the spirit of the song so much better than the versrion recorded by Nana at the beginning of her career ( available here in Youtube). Thanks for posting it.
Same to you - thanks for the proper Ειρήνη spelling!
"Irene" was popular when my parents were born, but no longer in fashion here. I suspect the problem was that this transliteration started getting pronounced as if it conformed to English orthographic patterns, ie. Just "I-reen", lacking the last vowel. I expect any re-adopters will spell it Erini (or similar) to preserve that third syllable.
I still get the occasional joke about the odd "y" in my given name. It's a hard life. :)
I see what you mean. My given name is Styliani but they call me Stella like all women with that name. Many people spell my name Στέλα bc Styliani is written with one lambda. I keep telling them Stella is a foreign, Latin name, but what can you do?
The spelling of your name reminds me of the usually American spelling of Caroline and Katherine, Carolyn/Carolynn and Katheryn/Kathryn. I hadn't seen Martin or any other similar male name spelled with y before but I hadn't really noticed until you mentioned it.
Even when standardly spelt, a careful US English pronunciation of Martin sounds to me like they're saying Marden. It's nice when people spell my name correctly when writing, but not a problem when they don't. What can you do indeed!
Hope it's not too big an issue for yourself. Great comment - thanks for indulging me.
Most American speakers articulate the t sound around the middle of a word as a d sound. You hear it in words like battery, city. Name like Martin, last name Morton and many more.
Bankers? Seems more insulting than the word spelt with a doubleyou these days. At least these chaps cared enough to swap their bouzoukis for guitars :)
There is no one better than Nana.

Hi! Happy New Year! I figure this is the last vid from this show. Too bad. They were awesome.
One more thing, Irene in Greek is Ειρήνη.
Is it really unpopular in English? I thought it was a relatively common name.

No, it's not a very big issue anymore.

Indeed - and there seems more going on than just the voicing of the plosive. Wish I'd got further with my phonetics.
