  • That's wassup! My Aboriginal Australian brothers still holdin' it down! Beautiful I could have thought that theses were some brothers at Coney Island if I didn't hear them singing in another language.

  • how neat. i never seem that kind of thing before. and it cool to see kids my own age doing something like that.

  • Hilight Tribe in Boom 06 - 2

  • Mad dig, mad dance.

  • I love this video, it's my favourite so far! Where in Australia was this filmed?

  • @BossyDemi Elijah is from Gapuwiyak community in the NT.

  • @ididjaustralia Very cool, thanks :) The setting is amazing where they are, it looks unreal :) It helps to make this video so appealing.

  • how many different names is there for this instrument?

isn';t it Didgeridoo, or Didjeridoo? or is yirdaki a different language

  • @acidfriend47 lots of different names, didgeridoo or didjeridoo or however you want to spell it is of European origin. Yirdaki or yidaki is one of the Indigenous names for the instrument.

  • Absolutely wonderful, on so many levels. The ancient and the new, the solemn and the funky. We are all brothers and sisters in music.

  • awesome stuff!

its so good to see the young ones embracing the culture and having so much ''fun'' at the same time!

  • i want more videos please this is great shit!!!!!

  • Thanks for this. Really good to see a clip with Yidaki in context with song, bilma and dancing. Not much on youtube like this. Also good to see young fellas mixing it up - doing culture and having fun with it.

    John

  • where do you get a didge like that from. Straight, light-ish and good wood

  • A pesar de sus vestimentas oxidentalizadas como el gorro de los yankies. siguen su cultura con entusiasmo.sigan asi!!

  • Interesting moves, and rhythms.

  • Do you know if it's possible to visit the aboriginals of Arnhem Land? Does one need a permit to go there? Tiwi islands?

  • Dapirrik! This video is one of my favorites out of all the ones that you have Guan.

Would love to meet Elijah next time in in Aus.

How much more yidaki playing/manikay singing outside of ceremony is there in Gapuwiyak compared to Yirrkala, Elcho, and Ramingining?

    Cheers,

    ~Simon

  • Glad you like it Simon! Talking about Elijah, I'm thinking of a workshop/masterclass with him around mid-year and spoke to someone else about it. Are you coming to Australia this year and would you be interested?

Ramingining doesn't have the profile or the talent for yidaki as in the other communities you mentioned, though manikay is strong there. Gapuwiyak has many competent yidaki players and manikay singers.

  • This kind of recordings always remind how much fun it is to play the didge. Bless you

  • What a fun time! I'm so glad this was caught on tape. Thank you for posting!

  • Practicing in the hot sun, playing yadaki, singing and dancing (to the beat!) is one of the most capturing performance's I've ever seen and displayed a "superb human achievement" to even be able to be out there (in the sun)let alone perform like that!

  • That yidaki has gotten around! Great video showing modern-youth culture too!

  • It was the most frequently-used yirdaki in the several months I woz in the Top End... used at Djalu's Masterclass, in funeral ceremonies, for recreational playing etc.
