  • I'm STILL WAITING FOR ON HOW TO PLAY THE SOLO HARMONICA PART OF MOUNTAIN OF LOVE BY JHONNY RIVERS. THANK YOU MAN. MUCH APPRECIATED

  • @345tennis looking for the original to listen to.

  • till you've heard him blow with a band and his proffesionalism a lot of these comments are so petty?

  • THANK YOU BRUCE WILLIS

  • mountain of love by johnny rivers solo harmonica part. could you E- Mail when you get around to it

  • Hi, me again did you get my request for mountain of love. in how to play that solo harmonica part?

  • i hear ooofff ooofff quite regulary when you play. What is that..is that important?

  • @ijones8 its the quick inhale or exhale of breath

  • @ijones8, the "ooofff ooofff" is just poor breath control. It goes away with practice.

  • @ijones8 I sometimes make an ooofff oooffff noise if I sit down wrong and smash my private parts. LOL.....

  • Those vibratos are amazing

  • I love the beginning of this tutorial. That was great showing the different melodies. Very helpful. Ur awesome man. Thanks for all the info and being here for us. Much appreciated.

  • I hohner golden melody harmonica(C) good for learning?

  • @cpmkdir okay for starters.

  • Very nice job, sir.

  • okay, I have a harmonica with 12 holes, and a little slider thingie on the side, which produces a tone a semitone higher when you press it. We just have random intstruments lying around here, and this is one of them... is this a good harmonica to start with?

  • @gaudetjaja Its a chromatic harmonica and will not bend notes like a ten hole blues harp. The sliding button is for sharps and flats. They are generally well made and last a long time. It would be suitable to learn fundamental skills on.

  • Hey, I finally learned to bend, but can you do a vid on the blues harp intro in

"flip flop and fly" by the blues brothers? It rocks!

  • @Gozurtju smokin. will consider it. Brian.

  • Im just having a blast watching the video again with the "experimental subtitles" feature xD its so random :D

  • Okay, so I got a shitty 10-hole harmonica a few years back and am only now trying to play it, it was only $4.99, or somewhere around there and its in the tune of C, so it's pretty shitty. Would this be a pretty okay Harmonica for a beginner?

  • @LaGoonch Yes, when you feel like youre getting somewhere or really keen a hohner special 20 is a good choice.

    Brian.

  • ibtr

  • *cough* sounds not healthy at 2:51

  • Hello i recently just bought a harp hohner blues harp in g key, i have no experience playing whats so ever and in your vids u say to start with a d key was wondering if learning to play with the one i have will b a problem or tricky for me ??

  • @entranzed1 If you use a G it has the biggest reed, will be more difficult but still work fine. Brian

  • you're great! it's real.

    You helped a lot..

  • Thanks for the lesson.

  • Please... what key is that harmonica? youtube.com/watch?v=GHUmPQtgMZ0

  • @wrongstroke Its displayed on the tutorial when I change key just before I play.

  • @OZHARP Please... In this video: youtube.com/watch?v=GHUmPQtgMZ0.

    Many thanks.

  • So, i got this old M. Hohner Super Vamper harmonica off my dad the other day. I think its an E-Harmonica. Would this do for a complete beginner?

  • @raggsokkenmin should be fine if the reeds still work ok.

  • like your syle man. to the point. thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • What a delight to hear a fmiliar Aussie accent after hearing some great playing!

  • @sandgropa seems to have a bit of english thrown in there, or am I imagining things?

  • out of curiousity, why did you say to buy a D harp first? because i just bought an A harp...because i'm a guitar player and i'm most comfortable in E.

but what is different about the D harp? thanks

  • The reed size, its not a small reed nor a big one and a good starting point for a begginer with little reed control.

    cheers Brian.

  • thanks man, please post

The Who baba o riley´s end part

    PLEASE

    THANKS

    congrats on the art

  • yeah!!! I love that song so much! I can play it on bass & it would be great to learn the harmonica part!

  • thnx man:)

  • errm im maby being stupid now, but how do I hold my harmonica? Do I need to have the low tunes on the right? or to the left?

  • Low notes to the left and high notes to the right. There are usualy 10 numbers on the holes these are on top of the harp body.

    cheers from Brian.

  • Any way you could post the tabs of the "green onions riff". Ive mastered all the other ones in your videos and its been great. Would love to add one more to my list

  • will try that for yas soon

    cheers Brian.

  • thanks for the lesson cheers mate

  • sounds great!

  • when ur playing the boogie riff, what blows and draws are u doing, I love the way it sounds and would like to try it for myself, thanks

  • There is a boogie riff tutorial already on the site.

    cheers Brian.

  • Thank you for posting these video's I've enjoyed watching all of them, they're all very informative. I especially like the one on amplification, I always like seeing what kind of set up different individuals prefer and the sound they are able to get from it.

  • Wow!! Thank you for sharing!!

  • Great video-lots a lots of good ideas thanks!!

  • AWESOME brother!!

  • Thank you sir...I picked up my first harp at about 10 or 11. I played pro gigs in my 20's and early 30's. I stopped after a bad marriage. Thanks to you, I'm going to get a new cheap set and going back to work...one day!

  • Nice one.

  • this is great but are u using digital stuff or straight amplification?

  • Great video man!

  • is that an SAS tattoo on your left arm mate?

    ace lesson, helped alot cheers!

  • This is it I was looking for. Thank you so much.

  • Good one!

Didn't know Rob Halford played harmonica :D

  • awesome videos please keep them coming

  • He is good

  • please tell me how to do split tongue chords!! thanks.

  • This is a superb video. Thank you so much, just what i needed.

  • That's some skill you got there. You just got a new subscriber

  • wait, i actually think i know how to get that sweet sound now. everyone i see seems to "cup" their hands around the instrument! got to go dig out and whipe dust of my old blues harp :D

  • love this instrument. so easy to take with you and sounds awesome. i tried starting a few years ago, but couldnt really get the sound right. i hit the notes right, but switching between notes and even making one note sound good was pretty much impossible for me.. if you know what my problem is, please pm me i want to start playing again.

  • Great playing, bro!

  • C harp is best... jams along to open G guitars etc.

  • There is no such thing as the "best" key.

  • I agree. OK to play favorites but ya got 2 B versitile in both 1st and second (cross) positions across all 12 keys (a few other tunings are fun also) and be able to identify which diatonic fits the music by ear to be able to fit in.

  • You're forgetting 3rd position. That's very important too. :)

  • You are totally correct. 3rd position is where it really happens. George Harmonica Smith was one of the greatest innovators for 3rd position harping.

  • great playing. would love to be able to play the harp along with guitar, what sort of harp should you get?? someone told me an E harp is best?? thanks

    john

  • you need different harps for each key your instrumentalists play in. The harp key should be the fourth of the key of the song(eg, a song in G, C-harp, a song in E, A-harp

  • saoirseyy. No 'best' key. Beginners start in C but you should experiment with all keys. I favor flat keys but also love the low majors and am looking forward to receiving a recently ordered Bushman Delta Frost in HIGH G to follow my VALVED Suzuki Metal Combed Promaster in F Sharp. I love the equal tempered tuning and design of the Golden Melody for C, D, and E Major. I just blew out a Marine Band in A Flat so it is being replaced with Seydel Blues Session Harp. Keep it interesting, save air.

  • Thank you for taking the time to do this. Top marks!

  • this is far too advanced for begginers

  • Beginners? Or should I say, begginers?

  • I would to learn it well so thanks and I'll give it a go

  • this is supposed to be beginners??? holy shit... i have a long way to go

  • Sounds like myself with the guitar

  • ....I think I will screw around on my harmonica for hours a day, and see where I get....

  • After listening to blues since I was a teen I finally bought my first Harp and practicing, practicing... My question is: The difference beetween Wood and Plastic is probably the warmth of the sound (Like a good Guitar I supose). Does the Plastic last loger in term of sound quality?

Is the Wood harder on the tongue? Can you give me a bit of details on the difference beetween those 2 type of composite?

    Thank you

PS: I'm French Canadian so hope that you understood my writing?

  • Could a English speaker make it if they wanted to live in a French speaking apart of Canada?

  • Eh eh!MOntreal is a bilingual city. Sure there's french signs everywhere, but people do talk in both langages. You won't have any problemes here, but it's not bad to learn a bit of french (Like I did learn a bit of english)

Take care and *Bonjour de Montréal* ;)

  • I went to Montreal when I was a teen, and I fell in love with it. I knew French back than and everyone was nice , and it was a great time. People that did not no French did not have as of great time as I did. But anywho I am thinking of making my home up there. And I could not pass up asking someone about it. So thank you.

  • yea ..your a good guy i,d like to jam with you..and learn harp good man

  • Question. You recommend buying a D harp for beginners. But MOST (and I really do mean most) sites/tutors/people on the net as well as famous harmonica players (on their video DVDs and master classes) recommend using key of C. So you suggesting getting a D sounds a bit unconventional to me. Is there anything behind your recommendation?

  • Yes DiamOndd most do recommend the C in books but in reality most blues jam guitar players want that open string sound so if their not using a Capo like Slim Harpo they are in the key of E =A harp or or they play in the key of A =D harp for blues and Masters like

Jr. Wells played alot in A =Dharp Jimmy Reed in E= Aharp. But really all the riffs can be played on any 10 hole harp some people like the sound of a G harp = D for guitar players who lower their E string to D. hope that helps

  • gosh dang it, i have a C.

  • Thats OK Play the blues anyway

    Like Bo Diddley's I'm a Man riff

    Da Da DA DA

    3blow 4blow 3draw 3blow real fast or even slow

    2draw = 3 blow the 2 note boogie

    Enjoy

  • Cheers matey I'm 2 day novice, very helpfull tutorial...driving the Mrs round the bend tho..ah she'll get use to it.....

  • I'm a total beginner, just getting started. This was really useful - you teach well. Thanks a lot! Now to get through all your other videos. :>

  • Good job, sir! I'm an old white woman who's been playing non-blues for over 10 years and now I wanna try blues. You're a good teacher and I'm subscribing today.

    Thanks!

  • thx for this, its really a great tutorial.

  • Does anyone understand what 1st position means - an why (from wherever the hell that is) you're s'pposed to play the harmonica 4 notes up from there ? ....

    cheers

    simon

  • good playing

    I have a question I have an harmonica with 32 holes ( in rows of 2 )

what is it the notes dont follow each other if I blow a C the next draw is a G??/

I have to say it is a toy so is it because my harmonica sucks?

  • is this because it is a "toy" or is this a special type of harmonica?

  • Are you the Aussie harp player that lives in NW Indiana?

  • I posted a useful reply for you Orian but it seems to have been removed for some unknown reason.

  • I just started and I'm having alot of troubles getting that one note alone. I can do it maybe 30% of the time, right now I'm blowing directly out of the middle of my mouth, using my bottom lip to cover the ones around what i'm trying to hit, any tips?

  • I think I've got it down now, not 100% of the time, but with a bit more practice I'll get it.

If my technique is right basically it's the bottom lip that does all the work.

  • Wow man, this was incredibly helpful. I just picked up a lee oskar for my first harp not to long ago, i've just been messing around like jamming for BB King and whatnot. I came online and found you, This is actually helping me build some structure and technique. Very much appreciated

  • *correction: (Jamming for BB King; as in playing with his music going on in the background)*

  • hey oz....gotta say man ur being an inspiration to all of us...ur jus simply amazing and u seem to help around a lot so thought of asking u a major favour....do u hav a mail addy which i could use to contact u???

  • I've Had a ten hole Hohner in C for years - its dirt cheap and came free with a "how to" video. Tried it and couldn't follow the tutorials. Stumbled across you on Youtube and you've given me the kick up the ass I needed! You're eloquent and easy to understand. I'll be following you on the tube and myspace. Thanks for your generosity for putting all this out there for free and thanks for providing the inspiration to get me having another go!!

  • brilliant! just the kind of tutorial I was looking for. I'll be watching your vids for a long while to come. Thanks for posting, maybe talk to you on myspace later in the month. :)

  • i hope i'll be able to follow you in next lessons with the C harp i'm stuck with...

  • stuck with? Just buy yourself an A and an E and you should be all set!

  • An A and an E? I would recommend an A and a D, that allows you to play in the keys of E and A, two commonly used blues keys. The C can be used to play in the key of G, another often-used key in blues.

An E harp is still a nice harp but not as useful as an A or D. D harps are also a bit easier to play than the C, at least when you are learning.

  • man i am a started but nope! it s too hard man. I cant get the same voice.that isnt for me. You got something easier to get started?

  • Try the my space ozharp site.

  • Cool vid keep 'em coming, thanks!

  • hey, i'm a beginning harmonica player and I have a diatonic in the key of C, would your tutorials still work?

  • Yes there are downloads in the key of G on my space OZHARP site. watch all the videos first.

    Cheers Phoenix

  • hey man where i can get the tabs of those riffs please

    can u tell me where

thats a good tutorial without those videeos i couldnt get how to bend

  • on the net man :) or go to the nearest music shop n buy em... though i would suggest the first

  • Lotta sweet sounds comin outa that harp! That split tongue technique is something I gotta work on...got any tips or suggestions?

  • This guy is fantastic, are you sure its not Bruce Willis?

  • Shit ive been sussed out

  • guys can someone help me pelase? i bought a harmonica from hohner but how can i know if its a g or d or....harmonica?and does annyone knows where i can learn to play?website or something?im 13years guitarist now but wanne learn harmonica cause its verry cool ! thanx already and great playing !

  • go to the first note and check it with a piano

  • or look on the right tab on the top cover plate of the harp. I think most Hohner harps have the key stamped there. Other brands have the key somewhere on the comb

  • Hey brother, you definitely got it goin man. As a nam vet I have been trying to get on with my life playin blues. I play a telecaster and play some monica blues. I enjoy yer style and hope by checkin out yer style, I can make some good advancement. keep it up man. I,m diggin it

I'll keep trying/practicing. I'm not going forward with your video until I get that first riff down. Thanks, Dusty Stallion
