  • One of the all time best commercials ever made. It advertised the beer without slamming it in your face. And made everyone better for having watched the imagenary.

  • that's how you gotta get yourself home from the bar after your 2nd Miller induced DUI.

  • This is one commercial I probably remember for the rest of my life---Madison Avenue sometimes goes for the gut!!!

  • This commercial gets me every time. It's so moving. As someone who love horses and the holiday season, this commercial touches the heart. Thanks for sharing.

  • I was beyond pleased when I found this video here three years ago, and every year since during the holiday season (today is Xmas Eve) I play it several times and get a lump in my throat and teary eyes. And then I read the comments, and they bring a tear to my eye. The powerful pangs of nostalgia this simple commercial creates in people who remember it from way back when never ceases to amaze me. Thank you so much much for posting this, Mr. XippVid.

  • Love it.

  • One of the greatest television commercials of all time, and it was done in a time when advertisers were not ashamed to say "Merry Christmas".

  • MY DAD WORKED FOR MILLER BREWERY AND THIS COMMERCIAL TAKES ME BACK TO THE GREAT MEMORIES OF THE CHRISTMAS PAST. THANKS!

  • Christmas to me means family, friends, festive gatherings, simplicity, warmth, tradition and beauty. This commercial captures a little of it all. A true masterpiece!

Unfortunately, Miller only markets to horny 20 somethings and dim witted men trying to prove that they are still manly despite drinking a light and flavorless girly beer.

  • Awesome commercial. Take me back to those simpler, happier days.

  • mileer needs to put this on tv again .

  • Oh the flood of memories this commercial brings back.

  • The original ad was shot in 1977. My sister Ann Sjogren was the Art director. I went searching for this yesterday because sadly she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The comments are very heart warming.

  • @kathrynarden can you tell me where the footage was shot, assuming you're not chirping about your sister producing this content? There's a faint image of a ski resort in the distance at the tail end of the piece, do you know where?

  • @Bearses waitsfield vermont. that's sugarbush

  • I can't "like" this enough.

  • The best commercial I have ever seen. Still amazed it is not shown anymore.

  • I beleive I took care of this Standardbred at Rosecroft Raceway. His name was Captain Rock. This unabridged commercial is better than some of the other ones I have seen, beautiful..

  • It's such a wonderful, heartfelt commercial..Miller could bring this back..and never spend another penny on making another Christmas commercial..never tire of this..it brings teards to my eyes and a warm feeling in my heart..BUT I guess saying Merry CHRISTmas is voodoo...no wonderour country is going to pot.

  • @ArtNMusicisLife Thanks a lot for turning this into your personal soapbox.

  • to jkav77. waitsfield vermont by sugarbush. Rt.100 goes right through the downtown. I went there this past spring to ski and I even found the house that the horse pulls up to at the end.

  • This brings back memories for me since this was also my late Mom's favorite commercial. She actually wrote a letter to Miller to express her feelings about the commercial and they sent her back a Christmas card with a beautiful still picture of the horse and sleigh riding through the village......Thanks for posting

  • As a kid I remember this commercial, you always knew christmas was coming when you saw this, brings back so many memories. Would love to see this aired again.

  • does anyone know where this video was shot, i would sure like to go there

  • I agree, all-time best commercial. Nice to know there's so many kindred spirits out there. Merry Christmas!

  • If Miller Beer was smart....they would re-air this classic commercial this Christmas.

  • I do not drink, but you don't have to drink to appreciate a commercial like this! The music, the scenery, what's not to like! They don't air this commercial much anymore...but they should. Thanks for sharing this commercial. Best wishes from NC!

  • love this commercial, it brings back such wonderful memories!!!

  • Hi somebody tell me who sing this beautiful music. I realy apreciate .

    Thanks

  • Hermosos video de navidad de hace 30 años, ojala alguien me pudiera decir quien toca esa musica .

    gracias

  • Wow. Amazing how everyone who commented shares the exact same feelings. For me it's especially overwhelming as it was my Beloved Late Mother's absolute favorite commercial of all time. I too was a kid back then and I can concur that life was just so much simpler, innocent and just much better. Was thinking about her today and decided to search for this. Heart Wrenching but yet brings back so many GREAT memories. Thanks for posting.

  • Few things can bring tears to a grown man's eyes and this classic Miller Brewing Co. Christmastime television commercial always invokes this strong, nearly overwhelming emotion. I wish Miller would refilm this commercial or digitally remaster it. The piano music, the horse sleigh, the happy passengers, will always bring back to me my youthful memories. I'm not ashamed to admit my deep emotions everytime I see this youtube commercial. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to feel anything.

  • @jeffyoung60 well put.............couldn't have said it any better myself

  • this commercial is the best christmas card i ever got

  • I was just a kid when this came out. I remember commenting to my Dad about how it was a nicely set Christmas mood (in so many words). I like how it slowly gets dark and more festive. When it shows the mane of the horse at dusk - that is really sweet. The snow almost looks blue at :47. The gentle music... Great commercial, what can I say. Thanks for posting.

  • Miller Brewing has gone from this (when it was American owned) to Miller Lite glasses "clinging" (South African owned).....more evidence of secularism, socialism and liberalism hijacking this country.

  • Simply the best, nothing else to say.

  • football, sundays close to Christmas, watching the games with my Dad, I think I'm gonna cry........

  • I concur with everyone above. This is my all-time favorite holiday season commercial (and I am not a Christian). Simple, elegant and classy. I miss the times when this aired. As was said, it brings back memories of football, family, fun and food. Thanks for posting. Thanks to everyone who commented previously. I am amazed by how many of you have similar feelings, memories and emotions when it comes to this classic commercial.

  • Absolutely love this commercial. Thank you, XippVid for posting this. I wish this would be aired on tv again---a favorite of my Dad & me. Brings back great memories of watching football at Christmastime. Invokes such a warm Christmas feel.

  • heaven forbid they say the word Christmas on TV anymore

  • Best Christmas commercial of all time....It's impossible to not get in the spirit upon seeing this.

  • oh yeah, what a great memory this commercial is...was it a break in an Oakland-KC football on Thanksgiving weekend game with Gowdy and DeRogatis calling the action that I first saw it? Terrific commercial and imagery with about as low key product plugging you could ever get, beats Budweiser's by at least 4 touchdowns.

  • @bigplameuk Wow! I remember Gowdy and DeRogatis calling the west coast games, especially the Raiders games. We live on the east coast and we were so envious that it was dark outside and that it was so sunny in Oakland at game time.

  • 1981 - watching the 49ers come out of nowhere to make the playoffs and then win the whole darn thing - this was part of the backdrop to a magical season and a magical time. Thanks for posting.

  • This commercial still brings back those magical Christmas memories that are often lost in the sands of time.

Some very touching responses below that perfectly capture the mosaic of memories that makes Christmastime unique in ones life.

  • if i had one commercial to pick as my all time favorite,it would be this one.

  • I fully agree. This commercial brings memories and tears every time I see it. Unlike most commercials today, this commercial evokes so much beauty and spirit. Truly unforgettable.

  • We're approaching the season again, and with it, many dreams and memories of Christmas' past, family times, and homes one day to return to. This touches all of those themes in a tender way. Probably one of the best and lowest key commercials ever. Dreaming of a past that may never have existed but will be in our hearts and minds forever. Americana at its best.

  • When my husband found this lost treasure for me yesterday, I was in transfixed and in tears. I thought I would never see it again. I am a person for whom Christmas is a VERY difficult time of the year. This commercial takes me to a special but, unfortunately, lost and sad, place in my heart. But from the bottom of that heart I am forever grateful to you, XippVid, and You Tube for bringing it back to me. It is the only connection to the Christmases of my youth that I will ever have. Thank u 4ever

  • They should re-air it sometime...since this ad didn't get the popularity like the bud xmas ad.

  • I was living and studying in Boston (at the time) when this commercial first came out. It gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling back then, and it still does to this day. Thank you for posting, and bringing back the joy all over again.

  • now thats how you spend christmas (winter solstece because i'm not religious)

  • Interestingly enough, Bridge Street in Waitsfield,VT (site of the shops the sleigh passes by near the end) looks very much the same even today. I love this commercial, especially since it depicts my home town! Thanks for posting it!!! I haven't seen this video clip in years but it certainly brought back wonderful memories.

  • Thanks for that info...I want to visit that street next December before it is gone. Will I have an easy time finding this Bridge St.?

  • Piece of cake. Everyone knows it.

Specifically, if you come South on Rte 100 (from I-89) as you enter Waitsfield you will pass the VG (Village Grocery) on the right. Just past that is a T-intersection to the left--that's Bridge Street. The Waitsfield Covered Bridge is a block east of the intersection.

  • Whatever ad agency did this deserved win an award. I would really like to know where it was filmed, I'm guessing Vermont or New Hampshire with the mountains in the back. Could be Colorado too though. Gene Barry's voice at the end is perfect.

  • You called it. Waitsfield, VT.

  • This is an all-time classic. I believe it originally debuted in 1974 and the the original was a full one minute. Then in the '80's I guess TV time got too expensive so they gave us the :30 condensed version. This is '70's football to me. Laying on the floor watching my beloved Bears in cold Chicago. Can you imagine a company today running a 1:00 spot without even showing the product?

  • I remember seeing that in the old days while watching football, reminds me of a simpler time in life.

  • This brings back so many memories watching TV with mom and dad at Christmas. Thanks a ton.

  • This ad always meant it was Christmas time. I have loved this one from the moment I first saw it!! I have searched long and hard to track it down. Thank you for bringing it back to me. It always brings bittersweet memories.

  • I love this commercial, reminds me of when I was young and first started watching football with my parents. great memories

  • I love this commercial! It reminds me of my Dad, who passed away in 1999, Christmas dinner at my Aunt's house, who passed away as well, and the Dallas Cowboys, who always played on Christmas Day! Those opening notes brought tears to my eyes in 1977, and they still do in 2008!!

  • According to the helpful folks in Consumer Affairs at MillerCoors - "The original Miller Christmas commercial, depicting a snow-filled Christmas scene and sleigh ride, was filmed in Waitsfield, Vermont, near the Sugarbush Valley ski resort in February 1977."

  • Thanks, I thought it might be earlier like '74, knew it had to be New Hampshire or Vermont.

  • The voice-over at the end is by Gene Barry. Barry, who's still with us at age 89, was a huge TV star back in the day, most notably starring in "Bat Masterson" and "Burke's Law". He had a second career doing voice-overs, and he was the voice of Miller beer for many years.

As for the music, if I had to guess, I'd say it was recorded specifically for this commercial.

  • It's not many beer commercials that can literally bring tears to my eyes - in fact, this is the only one. The beautiful, romantic imagery makes me nostalgic for simpler times long gone (if they ever existed at all); and, the commercial itself originally aired at a time when things were much, much better in my own life. I remember seeing this in those infinitely more happy times.

Thank you so much for posting this. Peace and love to all this holiday season.

  • I'm with ya Golddude2. This commercial makes me happy and sad at the same time. Regardless, I can't stop watching it.

  • @6olddude2 I don't doubt your feelings, but man, did you just copy my post from five months ago? Check it out and tell me. I won't criticize since how I can argue with someone with the same heartfelt emotions watching and listening to this classic Miller High Life Christmas commercial?

  • @jeffyoung60 FYI: 6olddude2's post was 2 years ago.

  • @6olddude2 I'm with you on that. I'm 38 now, and I remember this version as a kid, and in 1996 I heard the "I'll be Home for Christmas" version (as opposed to the "Blue Christmas" version). In 1996 when I was 23, that was also a much better time in MY life too. At 38, I expect to live another 10 years, so I'm glad that I can reflect on these before I die.

  • This is one of my favorite commercials. It's just beautiful. They used to play it during NFL games, and they never played it enough as far as I'm concerned.

  • I remember this too from watching football as a little kid. Does anyone know the artist?

  • This can't be a beer commercial! Where are the scantily-attired babes, the fat and slovenly louts, the lowbrow humor, and the dumb catchphrases?

Seriously, though, this is a true classic of its type. Does anyone know who does the voiceover at the end?

  • Thank you, XippVid, for posting this. Since Miller retired this about 5-10 years ago, I thought it was lost. And thanks to YouTube for making things like this possible.

The Clydsedales are nice, but this just really captures a moment in our imaginations, doesn't it? Pulls together a scene and music that transcends even the specific holiday - much less the product. We may never be able to go home again, but the dream will never die.

  • Thanks for posting. Takes me way back.

    Thanks for sharing Sir Hawk.

  • This video takes me back to a more simple time. Peaceful and nostalgic.*****. Thanks to Paul for sharing.

  • This was a great commercial. I remember it well. It's a shame companies don't do these any longer. Thanks XippVid for posting and thanks for sharing Paul.

    Rey

  • I remember this commercial. Seems like it got shown a lot on ABC, especially during Bowl game football telecasts. Thanks for the share, HerkyHawk.

  • XippVid thank you for posting a great and precious childhood memory for me. Seriously i shed a little tear whenever i see this commercial. It just takes me back. Peace, Paul

  • I never knew this as existed, nice!

  • Amen. I loved this commercial as a kid. It didn't matter that I was Jewish. Doesn't aestetic beauty override the petty concerns of special interest groups. Aren't we all searching for beauty in the world?

  • The holidays are for everyone!

  • They couldn't make a commercial like this today...it's TOO politically incorrect. Miller would have everyone from peta to the anti-christians to pull it off the air.

  • did budwieser copy this ad or other way around?

  • They definitely need commercials like these in late 2008. It really gives us a nice feeling from these commercials, like something good will really happen.

I was born in 1987, and think they should reproduce commercials like these. Such great commercials should be broadcast. Something as classy as this.

  • God how I love this commercial.

  • Never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Thought I would never see it again. Thanks to YouTube too.

  • I'm with all of you. I have loved this commercial since it first aired and have been looking all over for it. It is the best!! Thank you so much for posting it. I will watch it over and over again.

  • so tell us please.....who was the artist.........is it a familiar name....the suspense is killing me.

  • I'm with all of you. The best commercial ever. I've been trying to find it for years. When was it first aired? This has 1981. I thought it was older than that.

  • My favorite also. Do you know who the artist is who did the song?

  • So beautiful it is, I've included it at the top of the following page:

    SledRiding(dot)com/horsedrawnsleighrides(dot)html

"replace the (dot) with a dot."

  • The most beautiful commerical I've ever seen. I thought it was lost forever. Thank you for posting it.

  • Isn't this a gem!! My absolute favorite.
