@juicifergizzle ok didn´t know that, but i think we can both agree that when you take the game and compared to MODERN day games it falls VERY short in terms of graphic and gameplay isn´t that impressive anymore and yet people still return to this game.
Andi would think they do so because of the great story (how ever sloppy translated it might have been) great characters and a kick ass music score to follow.
I think thats what makes the game great even by modern day standards.
@Erikjust ...game play was great! nothing sloppy about it at all... i personaly cant stand the lastest ff13 feels like it should of been made a film not a game. tho just my opinion
@CaptainBlackBess we quite agree on FF13 more and more it seems that Sqaure Enix just wants to make a movie rather then a game.
Yet with the flops of Final Fantasy Spirit Within and Advent Children i don´t think they would dare go there again anytime soon.
But then again Sqaure Enix has lost most of its main staff behind the FF games and the new ones just doesn´t seem to make the cut so i wouldn´t hold my breath for a good FF game anytime soon.
You can't compare a game that's 15 years old to "todays standards". That's like saying Super Mario was an awful game. They weren't awful in their time, they were amazing. forget "todays standards", they mean nothing.
Just like good music, good video games are timeless.
@Maverick6429 i think you can, when measuring how well the game have aged and if its still fun to play even today (and that is without having giant nostalgia glasses on).
And i think the game stands the time quite well what it lacks (by todays standard) in graphics and perhaps a little in game-play it more then makes up for with a good story great scenery and a beautiful soundtrack.
So FF7 most certainly still holds 110% even by modern standards.
I remember when I first played FFVII. I didn't like it that much at first. I was just about to go back to the videogame store to exchange it for another game. The morning I was going to go I turned my PS1 on to kill some time playing FFVII before exchanging it. That was when I reached the part where you left Midgar. I was instantly in love with the game and I'll be forever grateful I kept it!
im just curious if the reason certain people like this game (FF7) so much is if it was there first rpg game they played. it was my first and nothing has ever matched it since. anyone feel different about it or the same?
I used to just sit at the computer for hours with the menu select screen open on the t.v. playing the prelude and would just go about my business with this in the background...
i never knew the game. i rarely ever played it. ihad a demo of it on my computer. but never really got into the game. it was a while ago. at the time i had no idea of its popularity. but the thing that always stayed with me was the music. i never got tired of listening to it. Though i never played the game, its because of the game that Nobuo Uematsu is one of my fave composers now.
@PaperJunkie Same here man, I spent a long time today listening to the old sountracks of games i played when i was younger haha, so much nostalgia, Infact, when my taxes come back i might just have to go on a ebay trip.
screw Xbox360 games, High end PC games and the latest PS3 games, when i have kids, the first game they will play is the game their father enjoyed the most, Final Fantasy VII
Though so far it has been looking kinda shit... Square Enix will get their act together, fix the little flaws in FF14 and it will be one of the best MMO's ever!
@Pheyt14 I love how this game brings up a very important topic - it shows how greed can be a direct threat to the world and all the people living there.
@Laurelindo The game had nothing to do with greed. It was about self-realization and coming to terms with yourself. The whole 'greed' theme was simply a cover for the true plot underneath. Anyone who thinks the game is about shinra or midgar is shallow.
@darkkiller092 The strings in the background are a basic, universal "Final Fantasy" theme. It applies to all FF games, even Dissidia. That's why you recognize it.
People often tell me it was silly getting a tattoo of the symbol in the opening of Final Fantasy 7 where this prelude is played, but everytime I listen to this masterpiece, I know it was worth ensuring that I would always carry a piece of this game with me :)
@mcclurgoman AWESOME! I have thought about getting that too! Fuck who people say! It's your body, and if FFVII made an impact on you to the point when you want a tattoo of the logo on you... Do it! And ignore what other people say! Good on ya!
The human nervous system cannot distinguish the difference between what's imaginary and real, therefore every experience of joy and success contributes to becoming more than you were yesterday.
It was the thing I wanted to play for 3 years the moment I saw someone play it before my very eyes for barely an hour. The story and the characters seemed so much more story bound at the time and the graphics, even if not very nice, made me wonder about this fantasy world. Finally, three years later, in 2001 when FFX was well on its way, I played my first FF game, FFVII on PC. I think even today, 8 years later, after playing it three times, that it's s till my favorite game. #2=Chrono Cross
@LedKenji666 Now now thats not nice. I'm just saying that its just a game, it honestly shouldn't have that kind of effect on you if you take it THAT seriously, and if you do I don't know why. But I mean. it is just a game...
@mercucio61 A game can have that effect. It can have equal effects as books, films. Infact, more so, because you interact and experience it yourself. A game is the ultimate source of media imo
@mercucio61 I agree with alundra828. It's one of those few games that teaches you about death, and it inspires future generations of artists and entertainers. Your right to think that the unique things that happen in your own life are what defines and changes you but you can't underestimate the journeys we share, be it as simple as a book or movie that has moved or inspired us. The creators of such work really did bring their own life experiences into it and we got a great game.
@JBalmoreS I agree with you, let people hold their opinions, but don't let em force theirs on others. FFVII is a great game, and it was the first of its kind (By that I mean the first using polygons for their characters) Each FF can't be compared as they each tell a different story, as my favorite of all is ffxi for it has more than one story to explore, but FFVII is actually a game I used to hate due to fanboys, but now I play it and realize "Hey it's actually pretty solid"
@mercucio61 Dude. Shut up. It really is that great. No game has ever touched me like FFVII and no game ever will. And I've played ALL Final Fantasies.
@thesecretcollection2 Its so true...I never looked at video games the same way since I played FF7...its the game that truly got me hooked on RPGs. Then I played Xenogears right after and I became an RPGer for life :)
@thesecretcollection2 this is very true. thank you japan for this wonderful gift. i wish the game was more availale for pc all games from 1 to the higher ones. even though ff is no longer the same, and turned too commercial, along with other games becoming better and graphics improving. That's all the convincing I need. Whenever Square Enix actually ends the story, I have a good feeling that this is going to be the song playing.
Final Fantasy 7 what was so good about it anyways? Was it the graphics nope the graphic by todays standard look quite ugly.
The gameplay then? Not really by todays standard the gameplay was pretty average nothing to write home about.
What was special to me about the game was its great story fantastic atmosphere helped along the way with a great soundtrack.
