  • we recited this poem, when i was in my 4th year, in dr. juan nolasco high school, in tondo, manila. we were under the care of our moderator in english, do not remember her name but, she is so good, her first name is teresita, she has a mole on her left upper lips, pronouns the word so well, and i admired her.. wherever you are mam, your always remembered...

  • Read this poem long years back...In Standard 6 or 7...

  • The great Hillare Belloc. He would be in prison for "anti-semitism" and terrifying children, if he were alive today!

  • my favrourite poem splendidly read, I agree witk885. t does not soundany6thing like Spike

  • this is our oral exam.. and our teacher wants us to recite it in a very fast speed!!

  • @ha7zLey Good luck with it! It can be a bit of a tongue twister.

  • @ha7zLey wen parehas ta d ka agpada ta d ag danag

  • I think that Belloc may have made this poem impossible to recite badly such was his genius in creating the space for rhythmic improvisation. But this rendition played with emphasis and tone in a way I had not thought of before in my (probably hundreds) of previous readings of the poem. There's a note of spite and a vieled sense of regret here that I have not heard before. Also, the relationship between the constituatve parts (the mulateers, the waterfall, the speaker, etc.) was new to me.

  • @wid85 Thank you so much for a careful listen and a thoughtful comment. I really appreciate it.

  • The voice sounds like the English dub of Spike for Cowboy Bebop :O But anyway XD Good job :)
