I found that the north Indian women, and especially Anglo-Indian communities are more open, but still pretty closed. The most important things are core beliefs and what makes you unique as an individual, not what your first language is. I think it is good and healthy to be proud of your background, or at least not ashamed of it, but at the same time you don't want to be ethnocentric. I have noticed that a lot of Indian communities have a strong tendency to stick with their own group. When Indians come to the US the Tamils hang out with Tamils, and it usually takes 1 or two generations before they even consider mixing. I am a European American who likes Indian women. I got interested in Indian women about 5 years ago.
