  • No bells?!

  • I visited Europe last year and while staying in Germany I noticed that the crossings didn't make noise when a passenger train approached the station. A light simply turned red and the gates went silently down. In the US, we have bells on our crossings and locomotives, as well as barriers, and red flashing lights on the crossing and white flashing lights on the front of the train. As well as the train signaling with two long blasts, one short, and one long of the horn.

  • @gibb1991 All that is necessary in the US, because the train triggers the crossing lights on approach. In Germany, that practice is not allowed on mainlines. The dispatcher has to set the "Fahrstraße" manually. If a railroad crossing is somewhere located between the joints he connected on his control panel, the crossing turn red, gates close. AFTER that action is reported back successfully to the dispatcher, the signals for the train will turn green. Thats why we dont need horn, bells and etc.

  • @gibb1991 So basically, the crossing has been secured before the train even have clearance signal to enter the crossing. Exceptions of this rule apply only to "Feld-Wald-Wiesenbahnen" (in the middle of nowhere, a few trains over a day, or lets say: very unimportant tracks) where we have pretty much the same system you have in the US. Without the honking as well though.. Honking the horn is used if the crossing malfunctions and has to be secured manually, or if crossing has no lights and barrier.

  • ohh man was würde man bloß machen, wenn die langsamste Oma die Schienen überquert. ;)

  • toll ... ein zug ... und jetzt?

  • "Of this cause it isn't allowed anymore to place such lights at crossings. " do you mean to say that the lights should be continuous?

  • Yes, flashing lights aren't allowed anymore.

  • Your description is confusing: it's DB 643, not BR 643 (I know what you mean, though).

  • Mixing up English and German. Thanks for your correction ;)

  • hallo, Dank für Ihre Filme ★★★★★

  • Do you have problems with car drivers not stopping? In the UK a taxi driver was rightly imprisoned recently for endangering the lives of five children at a level crossing on the East Coast Mail Line (six tracks).

  • Yes, we have nearly the same problems. There should be full gates at each crossing, but too dangerous if really a car stucked between them.

One month ago three people were killed because they ignore two red flashing lights and the lettering "Two trains". One of them was a baby...

Train were the same as in this video :\

But in Germany always the "Bahn" is guilty, not the drivers...

  • @VAHRoyal "Bahn" is train -eisenbahn and "drivers" is automobile drivers?

Why /how could they consider the railroad guilty if the driver disobeys the warning signals? They know a massive train cannot stop quickly enough.

  • @robertgift

Welcome to Germany :P Politicans and other "big bosses" claim new gates, new bells etc. in the newspaper after an accident, but if the police states that the driver is guilty you`ll never read about this case anywhere :\

  • @robertgift you mean these are the massive train ?? lol if you wanna see the massive trains go to india, every single train has abot 20 and more coaches... try youtube vids

I hope you understand my German)

  • The Ministry of Transport I think argues that the flashing light could be misinterpret, especially drivers from new EU-countrys. So only a constant red light is allowed for level crossings. Older crossing lights don't have to replace directly, but if the whole track got a modernisation, the crossing has to be replaced with a red constant light.

It`s illogical for me, red should normaly means "Stop"...

Perhaps you want the explanation in German. Ask if you need it ;)

  • @ Vahroyal: Oh, well I think that is something that only is an issue in Germany: Here in the Netherlands, the lights are still flashing happily... but our crossings our mostly way different than those in Germany: My experience is that it is more normal there that a crossing closes 1 or 2 minutes before the train actually arrives: that time is much shorter here.

(about explanation in German: I can read and understand German better than I can speak/write it.... my english is better...

  • we have the aasme train for oc transpo here in canada

  • it is the o-train

  • poszedł !!! 5*

  • wow..i love how dat train looks

  • That level crossing signal looks so cool in

    your country.

  • Man I love those Talents, I try to ride them in Ottawa when I get the chance. They're so quiet and fast!

  • Only a very very very few signals are so fast and quitly in germany ;). The most of it closes at least 5 minutes before the train come...

  • Fast.

  • They signals have bells at their backsite, but they are out of order. They aren't so much bells in Germany at RR crossing as in America or England.

Modern crossings have an electronic bell. For an example, typ in the search "Bahnübergang Friedlos" or "flash112". He made a video from a German RR crossing with bells.

On the railroad line from Koblenz to Trier are about 15 crossing, and none I think has a bell.

  • What!!!No bell?

  • Cool!
