  • Looks cheap. Shouldn't be called a UMPC because it's the size of my netbook. A real UMPC is like the Viliv N5

  • is it rechargible

  • Comment removed

  • I'm getting one of these from my school to help with my studies ;)

Does it have a CD drive? I saw you had some CD's that came with it, but I didn't see a cd drive.

Sorry if its a stupid question, im not good with technology.

  • No, it doesn't have a CD drive. I think you'd be much better off with a netbook than this - it's very hard to enter text on without having a real keyboard.

    - Jason

  • The one that im getting comes with a keyboard, people were complaining about the little buttons.

    Thanks :)

  • Maan, its has better more RAM than my old PC XD

  • dude do you buy all these just to review? you must be super rich!

  • Nah, I buy very few of them. Most are PR loaner units I have to ship back. Some I buy them return for a refund. A very small number I buy and keep...

    - Jason

  • is this a phone or one of those mini laptops

  • Did you watch the video? It's not a phone. It's not a netbook, but it's close to them - it's an UMPC or "Ultra Mobile PC".

    - Jason

  • how much did you pay for it

  • Prices change all the time - and I don't have some sort of God-like knowledge that allows me to understand the prices of every gadget everyplace in the world. Do your own research and you'll get the best answer. :-)

    - Jason

  • It has a SIM card slot?

  • I don't think this model does, though I believe Samsung offers some versions of the Q1 with a SIM slot. You'd have to do your own research on that.

    - Jason

  • The Ultra Premium has a SIM slot for 3G I think.

Thanks for the video btw, ignore the retards lol.

  • I have replaced my laptop cpu in 2 of my dellxps gaming laptops in the past. What is the highest speed processor/cpu that the motherboard can handle ?

    Can the processor/cpu be upgraded?

That is,if I were to buy one on Ebay and install it myself.

I have seen some videos of a couple of other 'Youtubers' taking apart and upgrading the memory and hard drives, I figure you must be able to upgrade the cpu.

    Thanks

  • You'd have to find someone that has taken it apart - I tried to take it apart to upgrade the RAM but it's a very risky proposition...I nearly cracked the plastic shell a few times, so I gave up because even with 2 GB of RAM I probably still wouldn't find a use for this. Upgrading CPUs in laptops is dicey and I don't recommend it to anyone, but since you've done it before, go for it and let me know how it works. ;-)

    - Jason

  • what do you primarily use this device for anywase?

  • Nothing. I still have this, but don't use it for anything. It's a device in search of a purpose for me - check out my review video.

    - Jason

  • 2 questions.

1, How good/bad is the keyboard? it looks awkward

2, How easy would it be to remove vista and install XP or linux? And if it is easy would the onboard wifi work? Or would i need to search around for drivers that could be difficult to find for it.

  • The keyboard is pretty bad - I've never been able to get used to it. Installing XP would be possible, but you'd have to hunt down drivers for it - that might not be too hard given that there are some XP-based models of the Q1, but it would still be a fair amount of work.

  • oqo is beta

  • IS it worth the buy compared to like a sony ect...

  • I can't tell you if it's worth it, I can only share my experiences with the product. :-)

    - Jason

  • lol theres no camera built on?

  • Not on the version I have, no.

    - Jason

  • crap im looking for a portable device with a camer that i can use for music ect that has more than 16gbb though

  • almost all of samsungs have camera. the sonys have cameras

  • cant you see the camera in 6:04?

the little circle on the top

  • if its not a phone then y does it have a sim card slot???

  • Some versions of the Q1 Ultra have wireless data cards on them, allowing them to get onto the cellular data network. My version did not have this feature.

    - Jason

  • How do you get company to send you things to review? I love to review electronics!

  • You have to build a Web site, build up credibility in the industry, attract readers, go to conferences, make contacts, etc. It's like starting up any other business.

    - Jason

  • Do you keep the stuff?

  • Some things yes, most things no. It depends on who's sending it, why they're sending it to me, how much it's worth, etc.

    - Jason

  • Wait.. Microsoft sent you this Samsung device?

  • Yes, that's correct - it's running Windows Vista, so it was sent to me by the Vista team.

    - Jason

  • lanyard? haha, almost definitely for a wrist strap so when you're using it in public someone can't just snatch it out of your hands.

  • One man's "wrist strap" is another man's "lanyard". ;-) (Yeah, I figured out the wrist strap when I started using it)

    - Jason

  • wow i like that is it a phone too? cuz samsung make phones :-S

  • It's not a phone - I'm not sure why you'd think that. :-)

    - Jason

  • oh ok cause i typed mobile phone cuz was bored and this came up =P

  • COOL

  • 800 MHz CPU is that a new feature?

  • I'm not sure - I'm not very familiar with past versions of the Q1. But I don't see how they could have put anything SLOWER in there previously...

    - Jason

  • hav u ever damaged any of your loaners

  • Nope, thankfully I haven't. I tend to take very good care of my geek gear. ;-)

    - Jason

  • That's a cool unit, not a laptop, not a PDA, but something in between.

I'm totally gonna take a look into this one - looking forward to another vid with a powered up unit. :)

  • Hopefully I'll do a powered-up review late next week: I've left for CES now, so no new videos until I get home. ;-)

    - Jason

  • how much are they?

  • It really varies - there are several different models, ranging from around $799 to $1499 USD.

    - Jason

  • Best buy is selling this for 380 now . almost sold out everywhere.

  • Wow. $380? For $380 this is a great device...for $800+....not so much.

    - Jason

  • IL .. Vernon hills has a display model that is 380 + 10% off

IL mudelien has 2 new in box + one display model
