I'm trying to do this with a copper wire, a AA battery (1.5v) and a ceramic disk magnet ( I think that is what its called) but it isn't working. Do you need neodymium magnets for this to work?

i dont understand why the electric current makes the copper wire spin. Did you get it spinning yourself and it just continues to spin? or does it happen on its own?
@kwazmokid Think of it like a fan blowing air. The wire makes contact with both sides of the battery, thus creating a circuit. Which in turn, created an elector-magnetic field. This field repels or attracts the magnet depending on it's polarity. In this case, the wire is attracted to the magnet, creating a downward force, but because the wire is shaped like a coil, a gentle nudge in the right direction can make it spin until the battery runs out of juice. And that's my view on it.
@kght222 the battery is not part of the motor, the power source is not my business :D
btw, I have another video where I power up a led with vinegar, copper and nails. and the vinegar is not needed, it can be done with water (coming soon water battery) :)
@danky78 sorry, should have clarified that it was a joke. although making one the way i described would still be pretty cool. and yah if the water has a bit of acidity like most tap water does, it'll work. wont be quite as high a voltage, but still functional.
@TheCentralServices A rectifier is a diode. It passes current in one direction but blocks it in the opposite direction. They are used to make AC like what comes out of the wall (after a transformer) and turn it into DC.
@TheMrBlinx No, Mr.Blinx, I mean to run the motor with 220v rectified to DC. DC for the motor. 220V or even 480V industrial power. How would I have to modify the motor? I guess making it bigger would be a start?

the spiral wire is rotating clock-wise, what we need to understand , is that wether the electrons tend to get attracted towards positive terminal of the battery also in the spiral movement if we use a straight wire. why we use a spiral wire in a heater? instead we can use a straight wire between two terminals, anyone has the answer?
@yourminer1997 I don't know why that happens to some people, it seems to be a bug in internet explorer or youtube player with short videos. I can do nothing, sorry.
@danky78 it freezes because when the video ends an ad is trying to load causing a conflict. you will see that there is a yellow box near the end of the video. if u video was longer there would not be a problem.
@danky78 No, its the add at the end. The CP has to load the ad the the other stuff at the end of the video. Thats what cause's it. Hope this helps!! :]
@egotime300 I can do nothing with that, i recorded the video with a camera and youtube converted to its own format. maybe it's a bug in youtube video player with short videos.
