He used the modern "near" rather than the more archaic "nigh," which supports your argument. I'd say he has about a 20%-30% chance of being more specific than generic, but I'm not him, so I don't know. Even if he was being generic, who's to say the comic didn't influence him to put it in a little more than he otherwise would have?
