This is the lazy housewife version of carrot halwa. Try the original version if you're not the lazy housewife. You can try both versions (original/lazy housewife), the original version taste better.
We agree that if you have the time to make the authentic version, more power to you. Wonder why you are equating this recipe to a "lazy housewife". There are so many productive women in the work force today who are juggling a career, kids, family, housework (amongst other things). If they are short on time but still want to provide something yummy for their families, we hardly see that as being "lazy". Even housewives have an important role in the family, besides being "lazy".
@kkondola care to tell us where to find the so called original versions? if you're on about the ones from a sweet shop then i'm sorry I prefer the authentic home-made recipe which contains NO Additives, preservatives and colouring not forgetting the unhygienic environment they're made in sometimes... at least we know that we're cooking it with clean hands!!!! so get your facts right before you speak @KKondola!!!!
girls i have a question...i noticed the carrots r probably shreded in a processor so its not as fine..will that make a difference to the texture or taste?
There will be subtle texture differences depending on the size of the shred but the taste should be the same. If the shred is too fine, you may have a bit of a mush on your hands.
i dont understant why is every 1 up in these girls face..she is the better 1..your was needs more sitting..why dont u make it on the stove...geeeees..this is their way of doing it..if u like it follow it..or move on,insted of sitting and yaking
hetal is the more proper one, she makes sure every small detail is mentioned, hetal really makes an effort that nothing is missed, anuja on the other hand is more calm and sometimes struggles with her english but she is very friendly and pleasant, together they are perfect.
This recipe needs the condensed milk because it takes care of the milk and sugar. Without it, you would have to add milk separately and cook it for a very long time.
hetal and anuja, i think the traditional way is easier, i decided to make it today for my wife, and please tell me what is evaporated milk? and frankly girls your way seems to need more baby sitting than the conventional method. but i will try it definitely, only thing is i have only boiled condensed milk, the brown one, can i use it instead of the usual white condensed milk?
Evaporated milk is milk with about 60% of its moisture removed...cuts down on cooking time. We have never used boiled condensed milk so cannot say for sure if it will work. The one we buy is sweetened.
NICE TO SEE YOU GIRLS IN A DIFFERENT OUTFIT UNLIKE THE APRONS YOU WEAR. ANY REASON FOR THIS CHANGE? ANYWAY, YOU LOOK LOVELY AND THE DISH WAS TOO YUMMY. THANKS.
Ladies, whatever happened to the real traditional Indian way of making this delicious Indian dessert? It's too much of a hassle going in & out of the microwave, plus, I'm sure u don't get the same result as u would if u cooked over the flame. I'd rather use my grandma's way of making this sweet. "Show me the curry" but the Indian way. It's good to modify but this one's a bit too much out of the way. It's like baking a cake in a tandoor. I love ur other clips but not this one.
@daoudrafik You are right...slow cooking does have its charms but there are so many people who just don't have the time. Maybe we will revisit this one again someday -- the traditional way :).
@Ansari00000 : To make 1 can of Condensed Milk: Blend together - 1/3 cup boiling hot water + 2/3 cup sugar + 1 cup dry milk powder + 3 tablespoons butter.
Love your videos! This recipe seems too good to be true - can't wait to try it! Could you please create a video on how to make mango kulfi? I have heard that there is a super-easy way to make it with evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk and mango pulp, but I dont know the proportions. Thanks!
I've never heard of this dish before (I lead a sheltered life :D ) but this sounds wonderful. Carrots are my favorite veg of all. I'll have to give this a try. Thank you for posting this!
i've always been very confused over the term "halwa", esp carrot halwa.
Your end result looks like what i'm most familiar with in restaurants which is a lot drier than i make at home. However, i've seen, what i thought, was carrot halwa compressed into blocks and shapes, cold, soupy, a hot pudding, and even totally mashed. are these all regional and/or personal variations? is there one type that seems to be the most popular in India?

growing up i helped my mother make gajjar ka halwa ( as i am sure every good indian boy has ). and i daresay that i am a purist........
nothing like sitting for three hours making the halwa.
in a kadhai ( copper ) and thats after spending one hour of grating the carrot.
yummy mummy

Can i substitute anything for evaporated milk? I tried to find it in stores but didnt get it.
What is evaporated milk actually? is there any other name to it by which i can try to find it.
sonalivenkat 1 year ago
@sonalivenkat : Mix 2/3 cup non-fat dry milk (milk powder) and 3/4 cup water to make 1 cup (8oz of Evaporated Milk).
Hope that helps
