@TimeStrider Good questions. He's one of those guys whose performance footage is really hard to come by. HOWEVER, thanks to the magic of youtube, you can find him here. Do a search for Bill Cosby "Ursulena"; he's one of the featured musicians.
Love it! Just finished listening to Harvey's version (/watch?v=7YrESGmya0k&fmt=18) and this one kicks, too. Harvey's is a quicker tempo while this one is seriously deep in the groove. Nothing wrong, IMO, with two different interpretations of the same tune, especially when it's such a great tune like this!
OMG.... I wish my parents had known about this guy when I was playing the violin, maybe I wouldn't have stopped. When I was taking lessons, all I ever heard was classic music for violin. If I had known or could imagine that a violin could be played differently maybe I would have stuck with it.
I was 16 when i found this album on my parents shelf,,,,i put it on the record player and let it play Phantazia is awesome i fell in love wit this album,,,plus i thought the album cover was pretty nice
This brother helped me get through some weird times in Boston during '76-'77... I'm a firm believer music can be a healer when life is abusing andt his dude was there for my ear. Matter of fact, that entire "genre" of progressive/smooth/funk type jazz had it going on, Like MzSherice mentioned Earl Klugh. Along with Dave Grusin, Dave Sanborn, The Brecker Brothers, Grover... George Benson start singing and never looked back... wow some good stuff happening. Glad I stopped by.
That album was my first exposure to Noel Pointer. "Superwoman" was my 2nd favorite tune on that LP after the "Roots Suite." I might post those if someone else hasn't already.
I bought this album back in the day; then didn't hear much about nor from Noel Pointer. I got busy down through the years but every time I was in a music store I always went over to the Jazz or
look in the "P" section for Noel Pointer.
I loved Phantazia, and am so sorry to hear of his passing. Mean violin. Does anybody know why he didn't make more music while he was still alive, like in the 1980s??? I've been trying to figure THAT out for years and years.
It would be good if anybody knows what neol pointer is doing now! This album was 'THE "best that i heard from him.I was so busy keeping -up withJ.L.PONTY that i couldnt find anything much more by him.Thank anyone for there interest to fill me in.
Nightsong is probably my second favorite from that L...after this song. Earl Klugh's solo is the icing on the cake on that one. I might have to post that one, too, if someon else hasn't.

'Hold On' is a favorite of mine as well. "Superwoman:Where Were You When I Needed You" is covered on it, and The 'Roots Suite' is awesome.

Wow, man...unfortunately, Noel Pointer passed away back in the early/mid-90s from a stroke. I believe he was about 38 or 39 when it happened.
