Chris and brad, you should do an acoustic tour together. Come to Jenkinson's Pavilion on the beach at the Jersey Shore. You would sell out for sure. All the old YES Heads from NY, Jersey, and Philly would come. I would love to see this happen someday, your music is unbelievable
Why is it that every time I look up my favourite music on youtube I find your exceptional talents? Honestly if you made an album with all these Yes, Genesis, Rush etc covers I would buy it like a shot!!
I just commented on your earlier rendition of this and now I find your newer performance.Tremendous. Still hoping for the tabs, but for now am just enjoying.
Fabulous guitar, beautiful tone. extraordinary vocals . Steve Howe and Jon Anderson Had better watch out for their places in Yes. I Have been a fan of Yes for years and this is as good as it gets. Brilliant
WOW! I simply cannot believe what I'm seeing and hearing. So many things to say about this. I'll start with, FANTASTIC JOB!! My favorite record from the classic rock days. and to look at the rest of your videos is so crazy, Wind & Wuthering stuff, all the way to Matt Good, you are a kindred spirit my friend. Not to mention an unbelievable musician.
HEY! Great stuff man! You should play the acoustic part of "The Remembering" that comes in at about 9 minutes...it's so beautiful. I'm trying to learn it myself, but my ear is not very good =(
This is really an extraordinary piece of work, guys!!! TFTO was my very first encounter with YES, I was 14 years old and bought the album just because I liked the cover painting. But it became a solid part of my life along with so many other Yes-Songs. Thanks for bringing it to me once more!
extraordinary work, very beautiful, This is the my better birthday gift, this beautiful performance of my beloved Tales from Topographic Oceans, thanks for sharing this splendid work.
This is just ridiculous. TFTO features a full band together with overdubs and Chris attempts to distill all this into a single guitar part ... and succeeds brilliantly. I never grow tired of listening to your great playing, my friend. And Brad sounds more like Jon Anderson that Jon Anderson does. Outstanding job.
Great performance of both! Now that Jon is unable to perform with Yes due his health issues, they really should have asked you (Brad) to join them on their new tour. Your voice sounds almost exactly the same as Jon's. Amazing!
Great job guys!!! At first, I thought you were lip-synching Jon Anderson (Sorry, that was not meant to be a wisecrack, but you sound eerily like him!!). this is a reminder of how original the Anderson/Howe combination is. I have yet to hear anything like this music, not to mention the broadness of the scope. In many ways, it is timeless.
I have seen a few of your vids in the past. All amazing. On this last video, I had lump in my throat for most of it. Tremendous!.
I got on line this morning because I was looking up Ed Schaum down in NY that was very helpful in learning some of this music. It has been some time since the Complete Guide to Yes has been on the web. In particular, Ancient part two and so on. Are you by any chance aware of any hidden tab treasures for a humble struggling yes fan for classic guitar?
WOW - F-ing A!!!! To the BOTH of you!!! I've already been blown away by your playing Chris, but Holy Crap can Brad sing the daylights out of YES!! Simply put...OH HELL YEAH!!!
Thanks for a reminder of my youth, i used to go to sleep wearing headphones and listening to the tales, until my dad turned it off. Great memories, over 30 years ago THANK YOU
TarkusNYC, I live in the Vancouver area of Canada. I will be performing a show with some mates at Douglas College in New Westminster BC Canada on June 13th/2009.
No doubt this is really the best cover I ever heard, thanks for this magic moment, it's like travelling through the time when I was a teenager. Awesome !
I really love your performance. One of the most great wishes for the rest of my life is to play Tales - the most genious composition in the history of the human race - in an instrument. Chris and Brad, thank you! I'll return soon. Tamas from Hungary
Muito bom Chris! It's good to know that people still love these songs. There's a lot of people in Brasil that loves Yes. And Brad, nice job. You have Yes in your soul!
Ilove your videos. It is incredible to think that guitar parts of such intricasy and beauty could ever be committed to a rock disc, but they are and you played them brilliantly, well done keep posting the vids!
Chris... For crying out loud you have incredible talent. You and your friends/son should play out. There are many YES fans out there that would love to sit back and watch a beautiful evening of YES music in a small venue while sipping Tea or a Corona with a twist of lemon.
Your talents might be under appreciated by people who just don't know any better, but they certainly are recognized and applauded by those of us who do.
Thanks for your comment and compliments, bengalbacker. Your words are appreciated greatly. It's never too late to pick up the guitar and plug away, you should do it! Thanks again.
I just recently stumbled across your videos, and I have to say that while your talent is a niche that probably won't result in rock star status, I'm sure I'm not the only old guitar player wannabe who really really really wishes he could do what you can do.
Fantastic arrangement on the medley and the singer is great too. Not many people can sing like Jon Anderson.
Unfortunately, I was lazy and not particularly talented, plus I didn't want to learn "Mary had a little lamb" first, I wanted to learn what you played in this video. I learned to hack my way through a few parts to some of these songs, and soon realized it would take more dedication, and/or natural ability than I had, to be able to do it. I got discouraged and quit.
(I have to split this into parts because of character limits)
part 1
OUTSTANDING !!!!
I'll soon be 50 years old, and this is still the music that I feel in my bones. Steve Howe is the reason I tried to learn to play guitar when I was in my teens. In particular the Fragile, Close To The Edge and Tales From Topographic Oceans albums. He will always be my favorite guitarist.
Chris. Your musical talent never fails to amaze me. Superb arrangement and extraordinary execution. I wish to thank you. It was you who inspired me to learn Heart's Silver wheels and Crazy on You Intro. I really enjoyed it as always. Best Regards, Bert
Hi, Chris and Brad, your work is fabulous, the guitar is great, certainly. But the selections only add to my long-standing impression that Yes's song-writing skills were developed too slowly and way too publicly and that they lacked someone to tell them "no" every... uh, once a week. Hope that is not too distracting, I really like the video, so that is not what my comment is about! Congratulations, by all means!
Great video, these excerpts are lengthier than those appeared in the 'Not Necessarily Acoustic' album, if I remember correctly. I don't know if it's Howe or you did your own adaptation but that 'Ancient' part from 7:01 to 7:25 is really brilliant. Splendid tour de force, Chris!
Thanks, hyperboreal. Yes, the medley is based on the excerpts from 'Not Necessarily Acoustic' with a few additions thrown in just for fun. The part of Ancient you refer to was taken from an old CD Rom Steve Howe put out years ago, but I beleive he plays basically the same thing on the studio recording with other instruments overtop of that.
Your videos are insane! Keep it up, I love them. BTW going to see YES in Hershey this week, no Anderson but oh well. Saw them at the 35th and that was amazing. I wish more people appreciated good music like the stuff you cover and arrange so amazingly.
Steve Howe did a solo acoustic tour a while back you may remember. On the cd I have of that tour he doesn't play as well as you do here. No youtube hyperbole, that.
My only complaint is you left out my favorite part!! :D ("Young Christians see it...from the beginning.....").
Thanks, Tony. I did do the 'Young Christians see...' part on my acoustic cover of 'The Revealing Science of Gog', which can be found on my channel (minus the singing). Unfortunately, I didn't do it all in one take. If you watch closely in a few sections between songs one clip fades into another, because I had to retake parts. :) Thanks again for your kind words.
Well, thanks guys. You forced me to go buy TFTO in the iTunes store :-). It's been probably close to 30 years since I've listened to it.

Interesting. Wonder what someone who had never heard anything of Tales would make of this?
It has bits from The Rem., more than some might have anticipated (From the 1st it was my 2nd favorite of the 4).
Well worked out... and well done, both of you.
I esp. liked little moments on the gtr where you added bits of picking not found in the original.
