"Oh bliss, bliss and heaven. Oh it was gorgeousnes and gorgeousity made flesh. It's was like a bird or rarest spun, heaven metal. Or like silvery wine flowing in a space ship, gravity all nonsense now." -Alex's description of Beethoven's ninth symphony molto vivace, from the movie "A clockwork Orange"
geigenmarie. Of course, he's talented; he wouldn't be the concertmaster otherwise. But I confess that nothing annoys me more than a member of an orchestra or chorus whose theatrical antics say, not "Listen to the music" but "Look at me!"
@johnsterman77 No, he isn't. I know and appreciate him. You would thank God on your knees, if you could play like him!! And if you would be sitting on the last stand, you would be grateful to see what is going to happen, in order to be really together in the whole group! Please no such devaluating comments...
This rendition is outstanding. However, I'd prefer a slowest tempo, like Karajan's 1982 version, or even better, like Klemperer's 1959 stereo recording (a true landmark IMHO). But I think is a matter of personal taste, not a negative connotation on this one whatsoever.
@callasnuts ..this IS the metronomic speed that Beethoven indicated: he's always been considered crazy, and directors halved his speed.Only a VERY good orchestra can play like this, and Chailly has done it. The liepzig orchestra has recorded all 9 symphonies, played in a row.
Me emociona los primeros compaces de este movimiento! Me hacen sentir vivo, me hacen mover laq cabeza hacia adelante y atras como si fuera una pieza maestra de Rock que de por si pienso que esto es Rock del mas puro que hay!"!!! Amazing!!! Fuck!!! De pinga!!!!
This is just a godlike piece of music... I am incredibly lucky to be one of the few people being in the audience this very evening and see this LIVE...!! I was not able to hold back my tears of joy and so I am again by watching this video now. Riccardo Chailly is such a great character and Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig can be proud to call him their conductor!

HOW CAN THOSE IDIOTS IN THE AUDIENCE SIT LIKE FROZEN STONE PILLARS??? APPARENTLY THEY HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO EMOTIONS AT ALL!!!

I correct myself: the speed indicated by Beethoven is 116 and this is at least 126 the bar.

Way to frenetic and near hysterically fast - its only 112 the full bar. Listen to Klemperer to understand this fantastic contrapunctual masterpiece!

I love hearing horns for the first time from 0:22 - 0:28. Beethoven did mark "non troppo" in the score, but I think it sounds more powerful this way.
