With all due respect to Radiohead, in this version, BM was able to extrapolate/infer/discover a richness of harmonic shades/melodic invention not present at all in the original tune.
@angelddaz I don't understand quite what u mean in your first sentence. But regarding your second statement, yeah that's what I meant in my comment - Mehldau obviously recognized the tune's original value AND realized in it great potential for harmonic/melodic development- that's why my " w/ all due respect' - in a way, Mehldau enhanced the tune.
yeah, it is very epic, it uses tension and release very dramtically. the way he intergrates his intro into the song at 3:19 just kills me. Brad is just one level above anyone else, isn't he?
he is human :-), i actually ent to a concert of his and met him a month ago... that's what so amazing, his humanity which is almost unbelievable considering the outstanding musical level which he has achieved...
what you are saying is funny, since I got the impression that he is a very deep and philosophical persona from watching that documentary (the way he speaks about the life and death taking action in the muscial creation etc...) he is one of the
most philosiphical musicians I know. Any way where your concert is going to be? I saw the trio but my favourite moment was a solo he played after I Civer the Waterfront his sound is just sublime.

@egyptianminor Almost all rock bands' musicality to Mehldau falls short. BUT he chose to cover this so obviously he found value in Radiohead.

i know what you mean. i just watched that german documentary about him on youtube. he seems like a really down to earth guy.
I'm going to see him play a solo show in a month. I can't wait!
