  • wow..

  • medical at the university of south carolina? for everyone's sake, i hope she's a better doctor than she is a marimba player...

  • She made me horny...

  • 0.o No. Just. No. That is some of the worst technique I have seen. And the timing. *barfs* If you are going to hold 4 mallets, please use all of them, not just 2 of them.

  • 1:58 she fukt up

  • lol, her head dances.

  • Even in the first bar she really screwed this up

  • OH MY GOD

  • Omg. For once I'd like to see a decent instrumentalist on these contests...

  • Carrie Lee Davis, that name has star quality.

  • I feel so bad for that marimba...

  • So did she ever do anything right? I kinda just couldn't take anymore and eterna-paused the video. .

  • South Carolina never fails to disappoint

  • take her out behind the chemical sheds and shoot her.

  • Yeah, I don't get the snarkiness about this. I studied percussion in college, and I could spot a few technical flaws, sure. But her intent here is to be flashy and entertaining for a mass audience. She's not playing for a conservatory professor -- she's playing for a pageant crowd. By that standard, she does quite well.

  • Yeah, she is not going to make a professional orchestra, but really not truly bad for an amateur.

  • Eh, it's pretty poorly played for being considered a "talent", but it's not hilarious. She's got poor technique, dirty rolls, etc., but this isn't apparent to the untrained eye.

  • This is still immeasurably better than Star Wars lady...

  • THIS IS NOT A MARIMBA ITS MORE OF A XYLOPHONE THE MARIMBA IS AN AFRICAN INSTRUMENT

  • @isaaccontractor It's a marimba. A Xylophone is a little thing.

  • Comment removed

  • @isaaccontractor

sorry but that is most definitely a marimba i play percussion mainly mallet instruments not only is a marimba way bigger than a xylophone it also has a lower tone it's the lower end of the sound spectrum totally different sound.....obviously you never seriously studied musical instruments.....

  • @isaaccontractor Congratulations, you get the dumbass award.

  • @isaaccontractor I play marimba AND xylophone. That is most definitely a marimba

  • Yeah, she definitely needed some more work. But I think she did it because it looked cool to everyone there.

  • I don't see what the problem is. I study marimba at a university and I think she's doing a fine job.

  • @Dave2Jenkins u can't see what's wrong with that, then ill tell u. Instead of showing off her 'awesome' 'skills' she should just practice more, and also smilling while looking at the audience doesn't make your accuracy any better :P

  • @Dave2Jenkins Here is my suggestion. Play this video for your marimba professor. If THEY don't think there is any problem with this performance, enroll in another school! Quickly!! Immediately!!! Seriously!!!!

  • @Dave2Jenkins May I ask what university?

  • @Dave2Jenkins Forget about the mistakes.. She's clunkey as hell and has no tone. How long have you been studying?

  • @Dave2Jenkins Studying or learning how to play correctly? This technique is really bad if you didn't know.

  • @Dave2Jenkins i think you need to find a new major

  • @123ijijij i have been playing music for more than half of my life. i can honestly say i believe i have a "trained ear." you don't need a trained ear, however, to realize that this is indeed not that funny. musically, i would call it mediocre to average, leaning more towards average. but yeah this isn't a lollercaust it's pretty lame actually.

  • shes off time at some parts

  • @ismokeweed420 SOME parts?!?!?!?

  • @quantumdave lol i guess ur rite d00d

  • @quantumdave She has no sense of pulse!!!

  • @ismokeweed420 bear in mind she is the soloist, so she dictates the timing of the piece in her playing, although the cd backing cant adjust to her..

  • @Voledesoto i agree, but i dont see why people think this is so funny. its just bad. maybe in a lulzy sense its funny because she sucks but idk.

  • @Voledesoto actually i can see now from watching it again, she is kind of not so bad, she gets the notes she just cant play them. she understands

  • The horror.. THE HORROR!!

  • She didn't learn to play like that overnight.....it took serious practice, and if you ever practiced an instrument, you can empathize. She is fantastic!!!!!

  • @Wintersbach Hahaha You must be a friend of hers!!!

  • @Wintersbach I hope you are being sarcastic....

  • @quantumdave - Actually, Wintersbach does have a bit of a point there. Think about how hard she had to work just to memorize and get playable (as well as she was able to do) 2:30 min. worth of music. (My primary instrument is percussion.)

  • @ChronoGXay That's true, but she could have at least practiced it so it didn't sound like crap.

  • @benjaminmullin96 - If you're STILL saying that, you did not get the point I just got through explaining to you quite clearly. I'll reiterate, this time in big capital letters: I'D BE WILLING TO BET YOU SHE WORKED HER BUTT OFF JUST TO GET IT SOUNDING AS GOOD AS IT DID RIGHT HERE WHILE UNDER THE SCRUTINIZING EYES OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE! How about that? Simple enough language for ya? Good bye.

  • @quantumdave I sympathise with you.

  • I love her swung 8th notes. And her technique is so flawless too! And I like that her left hand is a lit slower than her right hand causing an unevenness that really just adds so much stylistic flair to the piece!

  • @Mgsoloist Thank goodness FINALLY for such an intelligent and insightful analysis!!

  • Check out 3:33. Can't. Stop. Laughing.

  • She's missing quite a lot of notes! In fact very bad performance. Maybe it's time for here to consult the music of this Monty piece.

  • There's only one word that describes this performance. Atrocious

  • wow... I can't even vote on this one way or the other. Her technique, accuracy, roll speeds, and choice of mallets are all just horrible (thumbs down)... however, this is a great example of how NOT to play a marimba for a disgustingly large nation-wide televised audience (thumbs up). Very rarely (VERY VERY RARELY) could I see the use of tossing mallets in the act (time constraint or comedy), and in this case, she was playing some fast circus music, which is where that clown of a woman belongs.

  • Even to the untrained ear this is painful... my eardrums are bleeding. But look at that 90's hair! Check out those shoulder pads!

  • This was terrible and a tad bit insulting... Her 4 mallet rolling was atrocious, and lets not even mention the wrong notes(especially at the beginning and end), bad technique, and fluctuating tempo. Throwing mallets is a crime through my eyes. It is kind of funny though.

  • I play some Sitar.

Sitar, like Marimba, has an enchanting tone that is perceived 'exotic' to western ears. Because of this, you sometimes see people with zero musical talent play these instruments because the basic 'noise' itself is modestly impressive and can compensate for the fact that they have no idea how to really play the instrument. If someone were to do the same thing with a guitar, everyone would 'get it' and laugh but on a Marimba, they don't know good from bad.

  • oh my god, i think i just died a little on the inside :'(

  • Ummm... Ouch.. That wasn't very good. Its kind of cocky if you ask me. What percussionist plays the marimba like that??

  • this isn't very good

  • is she fucking deaf

  • lol MARIMBA LADY lmao!

  • this is terrible

  • The blouse is funny

  • what a mockery of one of my favorite instruments!!! and to actually "pose" at the end? My director would have had the whole pit run laps for that performance??? LOL!

  • well i just started laughing after like 3:00..thought it was pretty funny haha

  • oh! so she is the one who does the music for Tom & Jerry cartoons, nah jk it wasn't that funny, a bit cute, yeah her expressions were funny, maybe her musical talent is not like that of a grammy winning genius but she did alright man.

  • This wasn't good

but I really didn't think that it was bad enough to be funny

    just gross to listen to

  • @123ijijij She is missing tons of notes, is off time, and her technique is all over the place.

  • she...needed a bit of practice..to say the least

  • I may or may not have played on that same marimba.

  • Someone need to teach her to strike the bars with her wrist instead of her arm >.>

  • @theZd2 THANK YOU! >_>

  • shes using balters... ugh

  • She is very good!

  • @bacadehuachisonora She is god awful.

  • @bacadehuachisonora What's wrong with you...

  • She can very good playing this melody from V.Monti

  • her mallet throwing skills are phenomenal!

  • IT'S THE SEINFELD PUFFY SHIRT!!!!!!!!

  • Regis showcasing talent? (foreshadowing)

  • Comment removed

  • I'm very curious as to what 4 mallet grip she's using? It looks like Stevens sometimes but also looks like Burton sometimes.

  • @emtem059968 nerd

  • i actually think this sounds pretty cool hahahah shes got personality xD

  • If you get the humor in this you gotta check out Bob Newheart's stand-up routine where he places a phone call from the "New World" back to Europe or wherever talking about discovering coffee, tobacco, etc.

  • @123ijijij it's terrible. No technique or dynamics or musicality not to mention that she has no rhythm.

  • ...welll thats a lot better than what i can do..

  • @123ijijij Sucks to be you... Because this is HILARIOUSLY TERRIBLE and I wish you could be laughing with us.

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like she's auditioning for Santa Clara Vanguard!!

  • @123ijijij It's funny because she's playing a marimba. Marimbas are hilarious!

  • It certainly made me smile which, I believe, was the point. The crowd seemed to like it.

  • Well, at least she's confident... rofl

  • @123ijijij Pity. It's quite funny to the trained ear . . . and eye!!

  • @quantumdave Both of which you lack.

  • @quantumdave Indeed, i have played that song myself, and first i looked away in sorrow, then i laughed my butt off! hillarious how she just destroyed that song

  • @quantumdave dude, i'm a freakin music student... this is not that funny. she just sucks haha

  • @quantumdave this is so horrible in my professional opinion, it's not even funny...

  • THIS SUCKS! Sounds like she has Parkinson's and is playing with ball peen hammers.

  • Very,funny

The sticks are way too hard

    (giant )

  • My band teacher would be concerned as to why I was smiling so much...

  • Hey, I never saw Milt Jackson smile all the way through a...solo composition! Oh, right, that was the vibraphone!

  • The mallets are waaaay too hard. -.-

  • uuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhm... no comment

  • The marimba is definately NOT one of the world's oldest instruments

  • @Dc020Percusion Yeah probably the ancient Mayans played the Electric Guitar

  • ok is this her first time touching that instrument. jk but her technique is terrible.

  • What peice is she trying to play?

  • Oh my goodness I hope she hasn't been doing this for a while and yeah that technique :O

  • Please tell me she wasn't serious o____o

  • What were the last notes? There is no way that was right...

  • @TheMalletKid By last notes, do you mean all the notes after the first note?

  • but her 4 mallet technique is so flawless!!!!

  • huahuahuahuahuahuahua

  • Jesus..

  • Did she just walk off the set of Dynasty?

  • YOU CAN KEEP THE WOMAN I JUST WANT THE MARIMBA

  • I feel in a way insulted by this performance. She's practically making fun of the instrument with her absurd presentation and technique that makes me want to hit her with my goo bazooka. And she threw her mallets. Isn't that illegal unless they're targeting someone in your section?

  • @FlyingCarnage I believe it's illegal IF you target someone in your section. But this is immensely headache-inducing, frankly she doesn't even deserve to be Miss South Carolina :P

  • I can't stand how horrible her technique is! >< It's driving me insane watching it. I mean, I give her credit for giving the marimba a bit of a name outside of band nerds, but GAH! I would rather have someone who could barely play with amazing technique than vise versa!

  • She was captain of the Blue Devils Front Ensemble

  • Why are we all hating on this woman? She can at least vaguely play the thing, and she keeps a cheery face on too!

  • @MrBarsty Vaguely? The marimba is a PERCUSSIVE instrument meaning impressive tempo is sorta necessary...she does not have that. Secondly, her technique is terrible. Just because she's hitting a bunch of notes doesn't mean she can even "vaguely" play

  • Dude she has it very hard! She's busy looking at the crowd instead of aiming for the right tones! It's such hardship to be a Marimba Lady!

  • @MrMoroes its not only the tones. her technique is horrible

  • @buddybleau

Anybody that knows how to play the marimba has the balls. Anybody.

  • Why would she hold 4 mallets if she is just going to use two of them.

This is how you play marimba:

    watch?v=JoXxobUp37M

  • Before knocking her performance see if you would have the balls to get up there. I doubt it.

  • @buddybleau Not if I was that awful!

  • @buddybleau Balls or not, that's terrible playing.

  • Marimba 1 - Ms. South Carolina 0

  • She must have learned to do this just before her pageant

  • wonder how long she'd last on amateur night at the apollo.

  • That first song is the one at the beginning of Alejandro by Lady Gaga!

  • Cardas. It's pronounced, SHAR-DASH, Regis!

Nervous performer, for sure....she tends to rush the beat more than anything, and that makes consistency an issue. But she still deserves props for getting in front of everyone. Not a pro performance, but the piece is a challenge...good for an amateur under loads of pressure.

  • I see nothing funny here. She got nervous and made some mistakes. Still, it's clear she's got some chops. Get a life.

  • Not a perfect performance but far frm being bad or comical...I thought she did real good in fact!

  • her 4 mallet technique is flawless

  • @basswatta

    I really hope you're joking.

  • @Burgerpope umm, yeah. i was.

  • bravo tetka lady :) hahahah greeeeeeeeeetings from Macedonia

  • she took lessons from when she was 5, for this ONE performance!

congratulations!, on getting your football gear on anyways....

  • I now understand how Regis Philbin developed his acerbic humor, and why.

  • Her 8th notes. They hurt. Soooo uneven...

  • This is nowhere near as bad as the Star Wars trumpet.

  • Haha

  • this just sucks. like giving a 5 year old a set of mallets

  • BOO THIS WOMAN

  • mmm its like the sound of two skeletons making love

  • I'm glad women stopped wanting to have shoulders that look like men who take steroids 24/7.

    IT LOOKS SO STUPID!

  • Talk about clanking, good Lord.

  • good lord was she high or something?

  • was 3:41 suppose to be a scale. hahahaha

  • lmao. this, is, um.

  • Why do they even have a talent portion in the miss america pageant? The girls that do this thing have no talent what-so-ever

  • absolutely awful technique. gaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!

  • Oh dear, this really made me laugh! Thanks! At 3:28 if all fails, gliss up--and still muck up the return.

  • 3:34 she hits the resinator worst mistake out of her show, maybe im wrong...

  • @SJTR5 lol, maybe her technique? have you taken a look at that?

  • 1:51 poor sticks. this is very, very poor playing! even the students I taught in schools can play better in front of a crowd.

  • she plays like youd expect her to play...at least she knows what a marimba is unlike most people, i hate explaining it....("uh like a big xylophone i suppose")

  • I honestly couldn't sit through it.

  • The only things more spectacular than this performance are her shoulder pads.

  • what is she doing with her head? i mean it's one thing to play a marimba badly and look god doing it, but its another when you not only sound retarded, but you pretty much ARE retarded. i'm sorry, MARIMBA LADY, but you're kind of a disgrace to people who actually PLAY the marimba. i had better technique in middle school than that!!

  • i want to have her technique, that be greeat

  • did she win?

  • Me: Its sucks !! Crowd: But Music !! Me:she had terrible mallets O.O I WIN!!

  • played very bad!

  • i love it how its so obvious when she messes up

  • she needs some harder mallets

  • WTF was that?! It's like she's missing two major senses or something. Her rolls were just gorgeous....

  • south carolina needs to get their shit together

  • It doesn't matter what ya'll see it's the fact that most people don't know what technique or anything about the instrument. To their ears they thought it was amazing because of some of the fast stuff and or technical looking/sounding that it was. However I did laugh because of how she did it and the sound that she was producing.

  • Impromptu Phrygian mode at 2:21.

  • If my memory serves me correctly, she was an M.D. when she competed. Hopefully she is a better physician than she was a musician.
