you can find out if you have cfw by turning on your psp going to settings->System settings[icon is psp with spanner]then go all the way down to system information it is the 2nd last option.
once there it should display "System software= 'your firmware is here'
if your firmware is just a number then you dont have cfw but if it has letters after it eg. "m33, m33-1, m33-2 , m33-3 etc....then you certainely have custom firmware cfw !
Well, the PSP 1000's (the original black ones) are considered "Fat", and the PSP 2000's (Are the silver ones that released with the Daxter game.) are considered "Slim", along with the 3000's. ^ ^
can annyone plz help me? ive got psp slim with cfw 4.00m33 (5.00m33 on the vid) And ive been having strange problems that i couldnt find anywhere else on youtube or google -.- check my vid. ILL BE VERY THANKFUL FOR HELP
That comment is a bit too vague for me to address. You'll have to be more specific about what programs you're trying to get to work, and what's actually happening when you attempt to use them.
change your CPU CLOCK GAME to 333/166 by pressing select not in the game but in your psp when it first turns on u know where it shows ur background and shit
No. This does not work on the PSP 3000. Do not try to downgrade the PSP 3000. As of this posting, the PSP 3000 has not been successfully downgraded to cfw.
It's a little different between a PSP Slim and PSP Fat, but basically you just download the emulator, unzip the file with a file unzipping program, and install the file on your memory stick, in the "X":\PSP\GAME folder. (I put "X", because I don't know what your PSP's memory stick would be called on your computer). After that, just put any roms in your ROM folder, which would be in the emulator's folder. :)
I had a little bit of a hard time understanding you, but if I follow correctly, then yes. You should be able to play N64 and SNES on either custom firmware version.
Yo im thinking of buying the PSP2000, or the slim version that you have you know the second one that came out. since abit of time past would i be able of upgrading its firmware to 3.90 and where would i go to get it?
I'm fairly certain that only improperly downgrading your PSP can brick it. I wouldn't rule it out completely, but I've never read about anyone bricking their PSP by trying to run emulators or play roms. Sorry about the late response.
If someone posts something inappropriate for the video, it will be removed. I'm not going to tolerate a bunch of gross or ridiculous comments. People can do that on their own video's page. This page is about helping others with their PSP endeavors.
man his comment was a bit ridiculous lol, he blocked his mac address which i suppose if people knew they could do something with it but i don't know what.
like they can hack into your psp while on the web? hmm thats interesting, i wonder if using the mac address you can play something off someone elses psp lol thatd be saweeet.
The funny thing is, I don't actually know what either. I just saw other people doing it when they posted their videos, so I figured, that it probably couldn't hurt if I did it. :)
So basically Psp's dominate the handheld market because it can do pretty much everything right? I've seen them used as GPS devices : ) how freaking sweet is that? they're so flexible, i love it
PSP's are multimedia powerhouses. And they have a lot of sweet games too.
The new PSP-3000s coming out in a couple weeks will be cool too. Brighter screens so we have way less glare while playing during the day time. However, it remains to be seen if we'll be able to hack them like the previous model PSPs. Either way, it's awesome.
yo my man i have 3.90 m33-3 and i can;t run the emualtors unless i put eloader or put the pandora battery in holding the O button to make it 1.50 help my man
i've downloaded an custom firmware...named cf395gen2 and it works...but when I put the iso file on the iso folder and start the custom firmware it says the game could not be started...I don't know why....
Well, id get 3.90 m33-2, but most likely you dont have the driver enabled, i only know how to do this for m33, but anyway for that hold r during boot up, then go to configuration, then to umd mode and clikc it until it is Sony NP9660 -no umd-(thats the one i use on my phat and my slim)
There's no M33 because you had Sony's official firmware version. You have to obtain custom firmware via downgrading with a Pandora's battery and a magic memory stick before it will read M33.
Hold on. Do a web search for "Pandora Batteries." I read that some of Sony's newer batteries can't be made into a P.B. You have to make sure you purchase the right battery in order to make one. I don't want you spending your money on the wrong battery. You should be able to find articles about it on various PSP websites. :)
I did not found any article regarding the new batteries of sony that is anti pandoras....but i'll buy a new battery now and see if it's anti pandoras..if it's not then i'm lucky...please tell me how will I know if it's anti pandoras....
If you mean does all of this work, I'm not exactly sure. I still only have the first version of 3.90 M33. If it aint broke, don't fix it. However, most of what you see should work, but some of the programs can take some tweaking (which can include adding additional programs).
You have to put the two folders, contained in the zip file, in the PSP/Game folder. But in order to play it, you'll need eloader version 1.0. Start up eloader, from your memory stick, then select the PSPRevolution file. And you're off!
I'm not sure about M33-3, but with 3.90 M33, gpsp kai v3.2 Test 8.7 works on my PSP Slim, without having to do anything with the 1.5 kernel. Maybe it'll work for you also.
You should be able to using the "Daedalus" emulator. It only plays certain N64 games, and not always at full-speed, but there are people working on that.
By "this", I take it you mean everything shown in the video. If that's the case, then I have no idea. I don't own a fat PSP. My video is only a reference for those who own a PSP Slim. However, I believe a good amount of the programs shown in the video will probably work on a fat PSP, but that would be up to you to figure out. :)
go to "Theme Settings" in your settings menu, and select "Original". It should be right at the top of the list. If you don't have it for some reason, then you'll have to find it online.
If your afraid of fucking up your psp then dont do it, because your going to have to open up your battery and possably tear it up, while moding(downgrading, or put stuf on it) sometimes you have a slight chance to brick your psp. Any1 that doesent want to tear up there psp, or cant afford a new one should just go on with your lives, if that isnt the case mod(downgrade) it, its worthit, free games, applications, emulators, very very worthit
Hire someone on Ebay to do it for you. My PSP in the video was handled by a wonderful Ebayer in Canada. I paid for shipping, return shipping, and a few bucks for the service. I was very happy with the job he did!
you can do what briondavid says,, but this process isnt that big deal just buy a pandoras battery and a magic memory stick and do it iits just that simple insert memory stick, put the pandoras battery and just follow the instructions there and it will do all the job for you.
i did it my self and i was scared too but im happy with my psp now.
Good advice solisd. The main idea is that you end up getting what you want out of your PSP. So coolestkid200, don't be afraid to do what's necessary to have a sweet, tricked out PSP. :)
usually the analog on the psp works as the R2 and L2 buttons (push the analog left for L2 and right for R2, also pushing it up will use R2 and L2 together) hope this helps :)
No. A pandora battery is special. It accompanies a memory stick program that is used to install custom firmware on your PSP. Google "Pandora Battery" for more in depth info.
You need CFW 3.90 M33 and the Eboot file from the ps1 game you want to play...do a search for "Eboot" on google you find everything you need to know....by the way to the person who made the vid...NICE!
With the component cable on my 37" HDTV, it looks pretty good. Certain games like FFVII: Crisis Core look really good...approaching the graphics of a PS2. Other games, like FIFA 08, look closer to somewhere in between the graphics of a 8-bit NES and a PS1. It depends on the game you're playing. All games however, don't use the full screen. I letterboxes the actual games on all four sides. Oh well. It's nice for when you don't feel like playing in eye-strain-o-vision. :)
Ok i need MAJOR HELP i have custom firmware and all that good stuff but i cant put emulators on my slim or at least i cant firgure it out ive figured most of the tings i know by myself but jeeze i cant get across this one PLEASE help me!
I have a 1.50 normal PSP at the moment and i want to be able to play emulators and run PSP iso's i can see that the emulators work fine, but can you run PSP ISO's from 3.90 m33?
Yes. You can run PSP ISOs and CSOs. You can also play PSX games, but I think those have to be converted to EBOOTs. I forget, it's been a while since I converted one. I forget which format it ends up as...I think it's an EBOOT. But yes, you can play PSX games.
thanks, when i get a PSP ISO, i put it into the /ISO folder, should it then just be there to run in the GAME>Memory menu? because thier is no ISO program on the psp that i can see?
Yes. If you put and ISO in the "ISO" folder, you should see an icon appear for the game when you go to the Game/Memory Stick folder. If you don't, then either something's up with the firmware, the memory stick, or the ISO. Sorry I can't be more specific.
That was pretty helpful. I just upgraded mine to 3.90 m33 also and all I have on it are downloaded cso's and iso's of PSP games. I'm kinda getting bored of that so I was wondering which emulators worked on it so you were a big help. Do you think anything will screw up my PSP while I have a custom XMB theme running? Also, do you think you could send me the links of some of those emulators/roms because it's surprisingly difficult to find a trustworthy resource out there.
say man i have a question do the emulator ever fuck up or like go slow or somthing. do they work perfectly never mest up cuz i told that when u play the emulaters on the slim they dont work that good ?
Only certain emulators have trouble. SNES can be a little screwy at times. Sometimes you have to tweak the CPU and video settings to get things to work well. Genesis, Neo Geo, GBA, and the Capcom arcade machine emulators work without any hiccups. The Nintendo 64 emulators that are out there don't play much very well, yet anyway. I had a guy at Gamestop tell me that emulation doesn't work well on a PSP, but for the most part it works great. No problems here!
You'll be fine updating to 3.90 M33, but make sure that you do not shut off the PSP power or remove the memory stick while it is installing the actual software. I haven't experienced it, but users on the web unanimously agree that the PSP will brick if it loses power or if you remove the memory stick. As long as you can manage that, it'll be fine.
I'm not going to upgrade yet, because there is not enough incentive for me to do so yet. Everything I have works, and upgrading to the latest doesn't improve all that much.
Check your 'System Information' menu on your PSP. If it say M33 at the end of the version number, you have it. There are other CFW's by other titles also, but M33 is the most popular, and most likely.
hey i got some of the emulators that you have, but for some like the game boy advance and neo geo i can't get them to work cause i need BIOS. where did you get your bios from.?
I just had to Google search. I don't even remember where I would've found them. Anywhere I could've, I suppose. That's the hard part about getting all this stuff to work, it takes time, and a lot of searching.
someonehelp me please i am so stuck i want 3.80 m33-2 on my psp slim i have a psp slim verson 3.80 and want it to be m33-2 someone email me and help because it says game can not be started
I got a question for you, I got 3.90 M33-2 and am able to play CSO/ISO Files with an UMD flawlessly, but when i try to transfer more than 3 games into the 4gb MS and load up the games only 3 tend to show..none of the others even come up..what am I doing.
I don't have an explanation for you. I've never encountered that problem because I usually only transfer one game at a time, due to the outdated state of my computer. I'll keep that in mind as time goes on though, in case it's encountered again by someone else.
I seem to have fix the problem..I have listen to others and i think the problem was i was just darggin' the file, now I just copy and paste and i have 5 showing without a problem; also 1 at a time of course. Thnx 4 ur time again.
You can't use emulators with Sony's official firmware, like yours (3.90). You must obtain custom firmware first. However, once you've downgraded your firmware, you can still play any PSP UMD's. Even better, you can rip them to your memory cards, where they'll play even more efficiently.
Really great vid dude thanks for taking all of us through the vid! i really wanna mod my psp but have no clue where to start. Could you maybe suggest a link where i could read up on modding and emulation or even better make another great vid that talks us through the steps? That would be really awesome!
Just Google "downgrade your PSP", or "PSP custom firmware", and you'll find plenty of sites right away. Or, even better, check out the same things on Youtube here. There's some good ones on here about how to downgrade. Good luck.
You can't update to M33 custom firmware from Sony's official firmware. You have to go through a process called "downgrading your firmware". This is done with a special battery called a "Pandora Battery", and a special memory stick. See the above comment for more. Just do some research on Google.
Not really sure. The only thing I know about phat PSP's is sometimes you have to rename the game folder to GAME390, or something like that. Other than that, I have no idea.
okay i got a question I have a 3.90 slim psp and i tryed the snes9xtyl 0.4.2 on my psp and I started it and here is what I got a message saying this: the game could not be started. (80020148) please help me with this, because i like to play my games with it. please elmail me the info.
Read my other comments. You MUST have custom firmware on your PSP in order to use emulators. You'll have to do some research, and a lot of Googling. Look for "downgrading your PSP".
Hi i was wondering how did you get the custom software on your psp i have been trying to get it on mine for a week. i have 3.90 software and i am trying to update it to a 3.90m33 software can you tell me how i can do this or send me some links for it. any thing will do i am just really trying to figure this out.
You have to have a Pandora Battery in your possession in order to downgrade your firmware. Just Google the topic "downgrading your PSP" or "install custom firmware". You may even be able to find some videos on Youtube. Check it out.
hey man plzz any 1 help mee i installed the 3.90 i was 3.71 m33 then i didn't find the games that i was installed in my memory stick plz any 1 tell me wht can i do ? plzzzzzzzzzzzzz
You may need to resave the games on your memory stick. Check your stick to see if you can still access them via your computer. They may still be there on the Memory Stick. If not, then you'll probably have to reinstall them.
Sorry for the rude response by the other Youtube member. Do a Google search for "custom firmware PSP", "Pandora Battery", or "downgrading your PSP". Thanks.

hey umm how did you get the original theme for the psp..i have this wierd one and i have 3.90m33..how do i get the one you have..plzz comment back
raulakabigman 3 years ago
go to "Theme Settings" in your settings menu, and select "Original". It should be right at the top of the list. If you don't have it for some reason, then you'll have to find it online.

The SNES, Genesis, or GBA emulators are all basically cut/paste situations. They're all easy to use.

loaeza1 3 years ago
yah first u downgrade it to 3.71 m33 then u look up in youtube CFW(watever you want) and they should have tuts.
DAT23MAN 3 years ago
Used a Pandora's Battery.
briondavid 3 years ago
If your afraid of fucking up your psp then dont do it, because your going to have to open up your battery and possably tear it up, while moding(downgrading, or put stuf on it) sometimes you have a slight chance to brick your psp. Any1 that doesent want to tear up there psp, or cant afford a new one should just go on with your lives, if that isnt the case mod(downgrade) it, its worthit, free games, applications, emulators, very very worthit

use a pandoras battery and a magic memory stick
solisd 3 years ago
ohh im confused, im too scared- i might do something wrong and muck up the psp
coolestkid200 3 years ago
Hire someone on Ebay to do it for you. My PSP in the video was handled by a wonderful Ebayer in Canada. I paid for shipping, return shipping, and a few bucks for the service. I was very happy with the job he did!
briondavid 3 years ago
you can do what briondavid says,, but this process isnt that big deal just buy a pandoras battery and a magic memory stick and do it iits just that simple insert memory stick, put the pandoras battery and just follow the instructions there and it will do all the job for you.
i did it my self and i was scared too but im happy with my psp now.
solisd 3 years ago
Good advice solisd. The main idea is that you end up getting what you want out of your PSP. So coolestkid200, don't be afraid to do what's necessary to have a sweet, tricked out PSP. :)

hey i have a question about the emu controls. the ps controller has a r2 and a l2 butten. wich buttons are replaced for those ones?
thesunsett 3 years ago
usually the analog on the psp works as the R2 and L2 buttons (push the analog left for L2 and right for R2, also pushing it up will use R2 and L2 together) hope this helps :)
01chrisy 3 years ago
No. A pandora battery is special. It accompanies a memory stick program that is used to install custom firmware on your PSP. Google "Pandora Battery" for more in depth info.

Madskiller 3 years ago
You need CFW 3.90 M33 and the Eboot file from the ps1 game you want to play...do a search for "Eboot" on google you find everything you need to know....by the way to the person who made the vid...NICE!

How does everything look when you hook it up to your tv. I'm thinking about moveing up to the psp slim so I play the games on tv.

if you have cfw just use remotejoy to use it on your computer screen
jpb11380 3 years ago
With the component cable on my 37" HDTV, it looks pretty good. Certain games like FFVII: Crisis Core look really good...approaching the graphics of a PS2. Other games, like FIFA 08, look closer to somewhere in between the graphics of a 8-bit NES and a PS1. It depends on the game you're playing. All games however, don't use the full screen. I letterboxes the actual games on all four sides. Oh well. It's nice for when you don't feel like playing in eye-strain-o-vision. :)

I have a 1.50 normal PSP at the moment and i want to be able to play emulators and run PSP iso's i can see that the emulators work fine, but can you run PSP ISO's from 3.90 m33?
and can you run PSX ISO's from 3.90 m33?
thanks.
Okanehira 3 years ago
Yes. You can run PSP ISOs and CSOs. You can also play PSX games, but I think those have to be converted to EBOOTs. I forget, it's been a while since I converted one. I forget which format it ends up as...I think it's an EBOOT. But yes, you can play PSX games.
briondavid 3 years ago
thanks, when i get a PSP ISO, i put it into the /ISO folder, should it then just be there to run in the GAME>Memory menu? because thier is no ISO program on the psp that i can see?
Okanehira 3 years ago
Yes. If you put and ISO in the "ISO" folder, you should see an icon appear for the game when you go to the Game/Memory Stick folder. If you don't, then either something's up with the firmware, the memory stick, or the ISO. Sorry I can't be more specific.
briondavid 3 years ago
That was pretty helpful. I just upgraded mine to 3.90 m33 also and all I have on it are downloaded cso's and iso's of PSP games. I'm kinda getting bored of that so I was wondering which emulators worked on it so you were a big help. Do you think anything will screw up my PSP while I have a custom XMB theme running? Also, do you think you could send me the links of some of those emulators/roms because it's surprisingly difficult to find a trustworthy resource out there.

foetwintee 3 years ago
If you have your PSP downgraded correctly, then I believe you can.
briondavid 3 years ago
say man i have a question do the emulator ever fuck up or like go slow or somthing. do they work perfectly never mest up cuz i told that when u play the emulaters on the slim they dont work that good ?
io62268 3 years ago
Only certain emulators have trouble. SNES can be a little screwy at times. Sometimes you have to tweak the CPU and video settings to get things to work well. Genesis, Neo Geo, GBA, and the Capcom arcade machine emulators work without any hiccups. The Nintendo 64 emulators that are out there don't play much very well, yet anyway. I had a guy at Gamestop tell me that emulation doesn't work well on a PSP, but for the most part it works great. No problems here!
briondavid 3 years ago
all right man thanks just wannet to know .
io62268 3 years ago
if i have a 3.71m33 (slim) is it safe to upgrade to 3.90m33 witout any problems providing i have followed the steps it wont brick right
meeraa123 3 years ago
You'll be fine updating to 3.90 M33, but make sure that you do not shut off the PSP power or remove the memory stick while it is installing the actual software. I haven't experienced it, but users on the web unanimously agree that the PSP will brick if it loses power or if you remove the memory stick. As long as you can manage that, it'll be fine.
briondavid 3 years ago
cool. you should update to 3.90m33-3. I have it. and I like it.
ACWWH 3 years ago
I'm not going to upgrade yet, because there is not enough incentive for me to do so yet. Everything I have works, and upgrading to the latest doesn't improve all that much.
briondavid 3 years ago
true.

my psp can play iso games and has had a pandoras battery stuck in it dus this meen i have custom firmware???
jimmybobson123 3 years ago
Check your 'System Information' menu on your PSP. If it say M33 at the end of the version number, you have it. There are other CFW's by other titles also, but M33 is the most popular, and most likely.

I just had to Google search. I don't even remember where I would've found them. Anywhere I could've, I suppose. That's the hard part about getting all this stuff to work, it takes time, and a lot of searching.

I got a question for you, I got 3.90 M33-2 and am able to play CSO/ISO Files with an UMD flawlessly, but when i try to transfer more than 3 games into the 4gb MS and load up the games only 3 tend to show..none of the others even come up..what am I doing.
Peepsareretarded 3 years ago
I don't have an explanation for you. I've never encountered that problem because I usually only transfer one game at a time, due to the outdated state of my computer. I'll keep that in mind as time goes on though, in case it's encountered again by someone else.
briondavid 3 years ago
I seem to have fix the problem..I have listen to others and i think the problem was i was just darggin' the file, now I just copy and paste and i have 5 showing without a problem; also 1 at a time of course. Thnx 4 ur time again.

i have version 3.9 but it doesn't say M33 will it still work, and can i still play my final fantasy crisis core if i put these emulators on.. thanks.
awforget 3 years ago
You can't use emulators with Sony's official firmware, like yours (3.90). You must obtain custom firmware first. However, once you've downgraded your firmware, you can still play any PSP UMD's. Even better, you can rip them to your memory cards, where they'll play even more efficiently.
briondavid 3 years ago
Thanks for your help, i'm going to google right now and i'm gonna obtain some info on geting the custom firmware

Does the Snes9xTYL 0.4.2 work on your firmware?

Really great vid dude thanks for taking all of us through the vid! i really wanna mod my psp but have no clue where to start. Could you maybe suggest a link where i could read up on modding and emulation or even better make another great vid that talks us through the steps? That would be really awesome!
GrugNorg 3 years ago
Just Google "downgrade your PSP", or "PSP custom firmware", and you'll find plenty of sites right away. Or, even better, check out the same things on Youtube here. There's some good ones on here about how to downgrade. Good luck.

i have psp slim 3,90 and when i try to uptade the m33 thing it says there is no need to uptade plz help
nisarsoccer 3 years ago
You can't update to M33 custom firmware from Sony's official firmware. You have to go through a process called "downgrading your firmware". This is done with a special battery called a "Pandora Battery", and a special memory stick. See the above comment for more. Just do some research on Google.

i have a phat psp 3.90m33... i put in emulators but i go bak to the psp an says its corrupted. u think u can help???
joeshmoewa 3 years ago
Not really sure. The only thing I know about phat PSP's is sometimes you have to rename the game folder to GAME390, or something like that. Other than that, I have no idea.

okay i got a question I have a 3.90 slim psp and i tryed the snes9xtyl 0.4.2 on my psp and I started it and here is what I got a message saying this: the game could not be started. (80020148) please help me with this, because i like to play my games with it. please elmail me the info.
nightwing49766 3 years ago
mine came with out the m33 at the end of my firmwire though
nightwing49766 3 years ago
Read my other comments. You MUST have custom firmware on your PSP in order to use emulators. You'll have to do some research, and a lot of Googling. Look for "downgrading your PSP".

Thanks
misternickr 3 years ago
You have to have a Pandora Battery in your possession in order to downgrade your firmware. Just Google the topic "downgrading your PSP" or "install custom firmware". You may even be able to find some videos on Youtube. Check it out.
briondavid 3 years ago
hey man plzz any 1 help mee i installed the 3.90 i was 3.71 m33 then i didn't find the games that i was installed in my memory stick plz any 1 tell me wht can i do ? plzzzzzzzzzzzzz
nyxalluder 3 years ago
You may need to resave the games on your memory stick. Check your stick to see if you can still access them via your computer. They may still be there on the Memory Stick. If not, then you'll probably have to reinstall them.
