  • Lol, Bert looks kind of evil and they both have such messy hair.

  • Bert finally gets revenge on Ernie

  • HA! Bert got even with Ernie.

  • Bert got his revenge after Ernie took bert nose off him and pute it on the sculpture love this.

  • Well that's what I thought too at first but someone said this came first.

  • Dang! Bert looked evil back then!

  • i always grab ernies nose when this came on

  • bert oddly reminds me off squidward from spongebob

  • hahaha got your nose Ernie

  • Does anyone think of Bear in the Big Blue House when Ernie engulfs the camera with his nose? Also hugic2112, what's the noise outside the apartment.

  • He'll never be bothered with allergies again.

  • @4thtroika

Oh I don't think so... remember.. it's also the eyes... the pallete... the skin itself

  • Hey it's an orange Kermit with Hair!

  • When I was a kid I saw this... gave me nitemares for a week it is creepy

  • they look creepy

  • Just as creepy as bert without his nose. They don't prepare kids for these kind of things. I'm 23 and I'm still not prepared for it.

  • At 0:33 what is the name of the tune that plays?

  • I think this is the only time ernie is the butt of the joke.

  • 0:31 funny as hell

  • I love that!

  • Are they on something? They looked stoned!

  • They must be, since they're talking about the Mysterious Nose Snatcher!

The music at the end was mighty trippy.

  • Ernie sure sounded very funny when his ose was gone. I have never seen this before, but it is sooo funny!

  • sorry ernie :( im going to be kermit for halloween :) :O :) :O :O :O

  • I'm sure this sketch would have given me nightmares as a kid. But now I find it it deliciously creepy!

  • I hear ya.

I was horrified by such skits as a child.

  • hehe thats neat Ernie loses nose insead of Bert!! I loled!

  • Could someone please upload the "Kiss From a Monster" sketch?

  • Pretty weird for the first season. Usually that kind of stuff happens to Bert, not Ernie. Kind of mean. Ernie's always so innocent. LOL

  • LOL!! I've never seen that one!! That's the first time I've seen Ernie's nose being snatched! He's always done it to Bert.

  • This sketch appears on:

    "Sesame Street" episode 0005 (November 14, 1969)

    "Sesame Street" episode 0068 (February 11, 1970)

    "Sesame Street" episode 0811 (December 22, 1975)

  • Ernie didn't deserve do be without nose because of nose snatcher>:(

  • Maybe the MNS gave it back later?

  • OMG Bert's shnoz was positively HUGE back then

  • Ernie finally got to feel Bert's pain!

  • Ernie looked pretty funny without his nose at the end of this sketch, don't you think?

  • That's great!

  • From 1969.

  • LOL

  • LOL this one made me laugh.

  • For once, Ernie loses his nose.

  • XD Too true. Usually Bert's the one who loses his nose.

  • How were all these parts attached to the puppets, velcro? This was nice, I used to laugh a lot at these sketches...well I still laugh today...

  • It seems someone would pull Ernie's nose off besides with a hook.

  • If you look at this really well. it looks kinda scary cuz they look like a bootleg version of who they really suppossed to look. Like some ghetto ass sesame street ish. ctfu!! I guess these were the 1st draft characters. lmao!!

  • Pause at exactly 0:30 and you can see the hook pulling off Ernie's nose.

  • I don't see a hook at 0:30. I only see shadows.

  • It takes a while to get at the right spot, but it can be done.

  • Not only that, but if you listen closely immediately before the sound of Ernie's nose being snatched, you can hear someone in the crew say "Pop!" as a cue for the sound effect.

  • @RSG2006 They weren't good at sound editing back in those days.

  • You're right! i never noticed that before!

  • @RSG2006

YEAH! I heard it too! Is there a name for the 7 notes at the end?

  • ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh serve you right

  • Wow, this sketch turns 39 today! This sketch first aired on November 14, 1969...and today is November 14!

  • well earnie deserved it for pwning bert too much so he pays the duffy panalty ha ha

  • LOL! Ernie finally got pwned by Bert!

  • This is so out of character!

Since when does Bert make a sucker out of Ernie? It is generally the other way around.

Even in the "two noses" scene, which dates back to the 1969 pilot episode,Ernie and Bert play their usual role.

    Why the switch here?

  • Out of character? Hey, Bert was trying to warn Ernie about the Mysterious Nose Snatcher but Ernie wouldn't listen!

  • What do you mean? Bert did not warn Ernie. Bert told Ernie to go nearer!

  • Mainly because Ernie wasn't sure? Anyway, the fact that this thing is actually called The Mysterious Nose Snatcher seems warning enough!

  • Usually Ernie doesn't listen, but in this skit, he got what he deserved.

  • Well, Ernie did swipe Bert's nose in the "Two Noses" bit earlier, so what goes around....

  • And then he got back at Bert yet again with putting his nose on the clay model.

  • I thought it was 1968 that the pilot aired.

  • 1969.

  • Okay. If you're sure you're right.

  • I am right!

  • this was to scare kids so we wouldn't sit too close to the tv - made our eyes turn square

  • hey watch your Language

  • woah!,I remember this episode being when about 3 years old,I remember it freaked me out seeing ernie without his nose and got frightened, the same when bert had his eyes closed,Ugghh!,just some messed up shit!!!

  • (coutinue from my last comment...)

Squidward even has Bert's dull personaility! :P

  • "Mysterious No-Snatcher"? Oh boy, I could elaborate on what that may actually be, but I'd like to keep my comments family-friendly.

  • OMG, I remember this! It used to scare me to see Ernie without his nose and every time it came on I had to quickly change the channel. How funny!!!!

  • Lol me too, except I kept watching, but it still scared me a bit, I thought for sure the Mysterious Nose Snatcher was going to be sneaking around my house at night just waiting to steal my nose!

  • Bert sounds (and looks) like Squidward from Spongbob.

    Squidward copied Bert!! :P

  • Now he cant smell himself witch is good

  • I don`t get it.

  • Just listen to what Bert's telling Ernie, and watch what happens! If your best friend is warning you about the Mysterious Nose Snatcher you'd do best to listen!

  • Bert always looks mad!

  • Wow, the set for Ernie and Bert's apartment was very minimal back them.

  • Yeah it was pretty bare. I also noticed way back when...that both the Ernie & Bert puppets had undergone a "make-over". Bert's nose got smaller, and Ernie's nose went from a purpley-red to a more true red. Also I think they made some slight alterations to Ernie's striped shirt pattern and or colour. Anybody have info on why? PeacexXx!!!

  • Ernie looks so creepy without nose! :O

  • My school is where I got the idea from.

  • OMG! When I was about 3 or 4 (many years ago) I remember telling people about this episode, and they all thought I was crazy/lying. I seriously wondered if I had dreamed it, because it never seemed to make it into reruns. Ha! I'm so relieved. Thanks, hugic2112!

  • where did you get this?

  • The nose snatcher is actually a small hook.

  • How do you know that?

  • I don't know Bert it looks like BOLK a mysterious nose snatcher

  • How did Bert know that it was a "Mysterious Nose Snatcher" if his nose didn't get snatched off? Whatever it was that snatched Ernie's nose, I wonder why Bert and/or Ernie let it inside their apartment. Maybe Bert let it inside because since almost all the "Ernie and Bert" skits have a happy ending for Ernie but, a sad and/or angry ending for Bert, Bert probably wanted to make Ernie feel sad and/or angry since Ernie is always tricking Bert, so Bert wanted to trick Ernie this time.

  • Ernie looks funny without his nose

  • I agree. He looks and reminds me of the Twiddlebugs since they also look funny without noses.

  • They definitely look different in this one. A little scarier in my opinion but still really cute!

  • Hey Bert you Ding a ling, "nearer" isn't a word! You should've said "CLOSER"! duh.

  • actually, according to the Merriam Webster dictionary, it is a word. It might sound kind of weird how it was used, but "nearest" is definitely a word, so I don't see why "nearer" wouldn't be one

  • It's used in the old campfire round song, "Fire's burning, fire's burning / Draw nearer, draw nearer / In the gloaming, in the gloaming / Come sing and be merry."

  • It's also used in the song by Spike Jones & His City Slickers, "And the great big saw came nearer and nearer and nearer and nearer and nearer..."

  • "Near, nearer, nearest." Yep, it's a word. Closer" is more commonly used nowadays (2008), but that doesn't stop "nearer" from being a word. In 1969 and the early 1970s, "nearer" was used just as commonly as "closer".

  • I remember this one all too well. In fact, it's rooted in my mind of the first Ernie and Bert skit I ever saw. I was only four then.

Thanks so much for sharing and for the memories.

  • OH MY GOD i never saw this, wish I had though, i would've remembered it!

  • lol! ernie looks funny without his nose! wow, bert looks a little different back then!

  • I love the music at the end of this skit. It sounds funny!

  • I bet the guy who sang "Big Round Nose" is the Mysterious Nose Snatcher.

  • Yup.He sang much about how he loves his nose and even snatched other peoples noses in that song.

  • At least he gave them back! LOL

  • Now that guy had a FETISH!

  • It could be this guy or, maybe it was Cyranose de Bergerac who snatched Ernie's nose since Cyranose de Bergerac is a muppet on Sesame Street with a very long nose and he doesn't appreciate when someone says the word "nose" because he thinks he's being teased with his very long nose. So maybe he could be the "Mysterious Nose Snatcher" since he probably doesn't like looking at noses just because his nose looks bigger and funnier than anyone else's nose.

  • I have a feeling that it wasn't this guy who sang "Big Round Nose" or Cyranose De Bergerac (just like I mentioned in the past) who snatched Ernie's nose because, if it was one of these two people or some other person who snatched Ernie's nose Ernie probably would've said "Bert, who is that?", and Bert would respond "that person is the Mysterious Nose Snatcher." Instead, Ernie's saying "what is it" and Bert said "it's the Mysterious Nose Snatcher." (They're saying "it" instead of "who.")

  • Bert's nose was huge back then!

    Heh,got your nose,Ernie!

  • In Season 2, his nose got smaller.
