hi , i have a korg tr ( =korg triton le ) and I play in a pop-rock band I find the korgs sound too thin is the xp 60 , 50 or 80 more "fat" sounding or could you recommend me a sample based synth?
Hi,to my opinion: The xp series are (compared to Triton Le) ' fatter' indeed when it comes to acoustic instruments and also strings and brass. On the other side I think the Triton Le to me is stronger in electronic/synthesis sounds. The leads and pads over there sound fatter to me then. I think when you compare these two synths, the Triton Le needs more tweaking to get what you want to hear and Roland sounds are more ready-to-play. Sample-based you may consider Roland Fantom X
@cj4everjava Hey dude, I have question to you regarding the keyboard (Roland XP-50), I wonder, has this product have special acoustic / solo instruments sound that included Hip Hop and RnB/Jazz loops in the equivalent of the 90's, (not only the content of the modern atmosphere as examples Techno / Trance)????
Well, you can expand the XP-50 with SR-JV expansionboards, and to your particular case you could add the SRJV-12 Hip Hop Expansion, a lot of typical 90's atmosphere hiphop/r&b sounds, you'll get 256 extra patches (sounds) , 8 rhythm sets and 40 ready-to-roll rhythm-loops . Check out Google/Youtube for more info and demos of that card. That hiphop-expansion is quite cheap nowadays 2nd hand :-)
@tmfitz For the bubble I would go with the roland XP-series. It has a organ sound called Ballad B and it is in all the XP models. If you are going to use for bubble only I would recommend the XP-10 since it has a kicking bubble sound: full organ. It is extremely lightweight and easy to carry + if you are lucky you can get it for around 200 dollars. I have been playing reggae music professionally for 7 years and I see all the big names using the XP-series (Buju, Steel Pulse etc.)
Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I've left Open Labs and started a new company called Music Computing. Check out the new gear at Music Computing or click the link below for videos. - Thanks, Victor Wong
Depends on your purpose, both are good-qualtiy synths/workstations.
For allround-use, if I did not have Triton Le, I would choose the Fantom XA. It has more polyphony, pad-buttons for drums and samples, and the ability or expand the XA with one SRX-card, suited to your taste.
But if one already got the Triton Le fully expanded (memory and sample-board) I would stick to that one. (Sometimes I find organ and strings of the Triton Le more pleasant)
XP serie sounds much better than Triton LE or TR. XP-30 with aftertouch is the best portable synthesizer in general, Wurli piano on XP-30 with Keyboards of 60/70 card sounds much better than Nord Electra...
hola man yo hago reggae y estoy por comprar un sintetizador tu que me recomiendas un roland ho un korg cual de ellos tiene buenos sonidos para hacer reggae
oi oi, nice skills mate. I'm just about to invest in a Korg triton Extreme, but to eliminate any doubt, why do you think the Yamaha will be better? Cheers
I would have to say the Yamaha Motif XS series would have to be your number one choice, because the Korg Triton Extreme has only 160MB of wave rom, while the Yamaha Motif XS series has 355 MB of wave rom sound. If you want more bang for your buck, go with the Yamaha Motif XS series
@cj4everjava hey man! i have a question 4 u regarding the triton le.....has it got a faeture like touch response ? i mean that when u press the key harder, the volume would also be louder etc? plz answer!
Hi man, yes it can ! It does have aftertouch, so indeed when you hold a key and press it harder then the volume would be louder, or an effect can be triggered. All can be edited: what kind of effect, how strong the key-press must be etc.
I also have a Triton LE & XP80 :o) compliment each other well me thinks. Especially as the Roland XP90 has no sampling facility. I have used my set up for years in live and studio use. Was thinking about getting a Fantom G7.... but why??? i got all i need. nice!
I tried to use the sequencer a few times, but I think it is way too complex (or maybe I am not patient enough). The 'song' that I made that you hear in the last part of the vid took a lot of preparation ;-) . Anyway, I don't use it anymore.
i accidentally unplugged the battery out of my roland xp-50 it has one expansion pack, but after unpulgging my batter everything was lost....can anyone help...if so please let me know .....send me a message.....PLEASE HELP
Im glad you agree.Just thought id put in my little 5c worth of what i thought was the best sounding "organ" sound.Even tho im not a keys player ive managed to hear and play on an electro2 and its amazing! For any TRUE roots reggae players in the game, this is what you need! The closest thing youll find to a hammond! But nice playing of reggae.Keep it coming...
@HMEMASSIVE You are totally right. Even though you can get the same organ sound on all the XP's with a little tweaking. And the XP-10 you can actually find for around 200 dollars with a litlle luck. I've been playing reggae/dancehall professionally for about 7 years and the XP-50 has been such a blessing. I use for ALL gigs and I have the Vintage Synth expansion + Key's of the 60's & 70's and i never come short of any sound. Amazing that I bought it for 400 dollars! Jah Bless
Tnx man. Can i ask you something. When you'll have the time, could you please record a video, where you are showing the Triton sounds. I would really like to here best lead synth, pad and string sounds ;)

@elektriknekta Hi. True that most of the big reggae names use xp-80. The only difference is that there is more keys on the xp-80. Sounds are exactly the same. I use a xp-50 with two expansions Vintage Synth expansion + Key's of the 60's & 70's and it's become the most awesome synth I could ever wish for in reggae/dancehall. I will NEVER give it up :)

But anyway, you are right. If you can find in the 50 what you want (organs are okay) , then you don't need the 80. :-)
Although I do not really know if they both work with the same engine or that the 80 DOES have a really newer synthesis-inside

The Korg Triton is a synthesizer, with a built-in sequencer to make own compositions. I think the sequencer has an arranger-like role too (but mostly I see arrangers on keyboards, as part of the preset-rhtyhms; the Le has some arpeggiated sound-sets that can function as arranger too).
