I really like the way you sped it up. Guess I'm the only one that thinks the original version just looked to fake, like they were just trying to hit the sabers together, rather than trying to find an opening in each other's attacks. The speed up makes it more believable imo.

If you watch the documentary on the series, producer Rick Maccallum and Lucas both said that the sword fighting is slower in the period of ROTJ, because there was not a "school" for Jedi as there was in Phantom and TCW. Lucas himself said that he made it slower to show the difference in the "hay day" of the Jedi and the time when Jedi were rare.

Interesting work. I think speeding up the fight did kind of work, but it was sped up a degree too much as you already noted in your vid description.

The only place I think speeding it up detracts is the last clash when Vader goes "...Sister...", specifically with the final blows from Luke's saber when Vader has fallen.

But yeah, nice take on an epic fight scene (and my fave lighsaber fight).

How could you say this duel was way better than Darth Maul vs QuiGonn and ObiWan!? I mean seriously it's got duel of the fates playing in the background and believe or not that whole fight was real, those guys were really moving that fast nothing was made to help that fight with a computer unlike episodes II and III. I will still say that this is the greatest saber battle in all the movies because of the bond between father and son and the music.

Duel of the Fates was okay but it's overrated. Darth Maul kicks The Jedi in the face so many times they don't even bleed (I know they're Jedi and far more durable than regular people but still) and the way that Maul was defeated by just standing there really cheapens it. This fight (Without the speeding up) was far better. Just my opinion.

That song in my opinion is not overrated it really is epic, I think it's the second best saber duel in the whole series. I never said I thought it was better than this duel though I will always believe that this was the greatest saber duel because of the dialogue and the music and simply having the Emperor, Luke and Vader in the same room is amazing.

@vfgjhj I agree to some extent. Maul vs Gui-Gon and Obi-Wan was epic. However, Lucas said the Anakin vs Obi-Wan duel wasn't sped up either - except for when Obi-Wan slashes his lightsaber down at Anakin on the table after their brief hand-to-hand bout.

@vfgjhj hey guys, dont mean to intrude, just wanted to give my opinion....i felt that being that Darth vader is now machine, and luke skywalker didnt recieve the proper "sword training", the "return of the jedi" final battle made sense.....Luke didnt have real sword training (in the story) so his skills are just amature, and since vader is now machine, he isnt in shape to sword fight. The prequels (which i dont like at all), showed anakin before he was a machine, in shape and with prope

This was the most epic 1 IMO. Ep.V was pretty much at the same level but this was more epic so it wins. Revenge follows and then Ep.IV, then Phantom and last comes Ep.II. The problem with Revenge was that the effects were awesome but just unreal, it wasn't a normal lightsaber duel anymore, watch Ep-IV and u'll c how it was maybe even better than Ep.3 cuz it was real and had more emotion. Just my opinion but that's I think how it is. Return FTW.

ABdirector I REALLY like what you've done here and DONT think that it's TOO FAST(Except for the very last part MAYBE)but your comment that the "Return" duel was probably the best in the saga is untenable to say the least! For EMOTIONAL content and overall coolness the award goes to "Empire" AND "Revenge". Got to give the actor who played the Emperor credit (I can't remember his name at the moment). Not only did he do an excellent job, but he went back and played himself younger, 20 years later in episodes 1-3.

I know it's a ton of make-up to make him look old on this one, but it's still pretty cool.

He gave into rage, sort of like Anakin did to count Dooko. However, dont forget how powerful luke is. He goes on to become the leader of the jedi for many years after these films. He is also better then Anakin. He not only is as powerful but could control himself. Luke was the best jedi in my opinion.

1.) Probably. Killing Palpatine would imply that Luke gave in to his hate, since Palpatine was defenseless. He probably would've killed Vader, too.

2.) He would've been captured and killed. The entire point of Yoda going to Dagobah was that it was an ambiguous planet, one outside of Republic space. He needed a secluded location for his exile.

The speed was fine in the original. Speeding it up just looks awkward. Especially at the end where the strikes are meant to be slower, angrier, and more vicious. Adding speed doesn't make it any more intense. You just lose a lot of the emotion.
