Gerard's voice made sense with how he was trying to act, which for me is why he is a good phantom. granted Michael Crawford has a voice that i don't think anyone can touch, the point is that his voice is made for BROADWAY. his voice matches his medium, and for Butler it's the same way. he's an actor, so his voice acts right along with him

Come on people, this was a decent performance. He's not as big voiced as some of the other phantoms but his pitch was perfect, his tone is clear and unforced. His is just more of a pop singer's rendition than that of a classical one.

Yes. Robert Guillaume replaced Michael Crawford as The Phantom of the Opera in the Los Angeles production back in the late 1980s, making Robert the only African-American to play the Phantom.

he has a nice voice - that is a really smooth delivery and a really nice tone colour, but rusty is right. his support is all over the place (hence the uncontrolled vibrato, dropped notes etc). but hey, that could just be nerves.

Michael Crawford has always done the best version of this song. Comparing an out of tune Gerald Butler to MC is just really weird. I like some of Sarahs stuff as well but her rendition just doasn't have much emotion. She sings it to rigid(nobody sings everything perfectly). Michael was the only one to score a top ten hit with this song.
