I loved Wolfman Jack when I was young but when I try to imatate him now it hurts my vocal cords.Oh but he was a one of a kind.Once in a while I'll break out a wolfman imatation at my gigs!
Thank you for this. It brings back so many good memories. I was 14 years old when the Wolfman came to New York. I recorded many of his shows on Cassette.
Unfortunately, these tapes have been lost; but the Wolfman (and the great DJs at 77 WABC) inspired me to get into radio, where I remained for over twenty years. These folks really knew how to communicate. Few today realize how much they all meant to us growing up in the 60's and 70's. Again, thanks for the memories.
When he broadcast across the Texas border in Mexico, with an illegal antenna (by US standards) his signal went out all over the Midwest. I was there! And it wasn't Rolling Stones etc, it was Otis Redding, James Brown, etc R-N-B.
We here in Norfolk Virginia were priviledged to actually have him work at WGH AM. He was truely the Standard Bearer for DJ's in his time. AM ruled the roost in his day. Then Album Rock Stations came into being and the art of DJing was lost.
I did get to work with Woldman Jack one weekend at KBMI Radio in Henderson, Nevada. He was appearing at The Bonanza Hotel in Las Vegas and he dropped by to help us with our Story of Rock and Roll special weekend show. One of our deejays named Dan Dunigan ended up working for The Wolfman on his show at XERB. He was interesting.
I grew up with Wolfman on my radio as a kid, WNBC. I never knew until I was older that being a DJ was a job, because I couldn't imagine anyone else on the air. Radio was so cool back then. Wolfman Jack is irreplacable
Not related to this Video but does anyone remember Wolf Man Jack and Dick Clark selling a set of oldies music on a infomercial and there was a pristine 57 Turquoise Chevy Convertible on stage? Like to know if anyone bought that set? Wolf Man had a Black Leather Poncho on.
Back in the days when music kicked butt and when radio was worth listening, to. Not like the crap we have now, top 40 radio sucks now and has for quite sometime. Love Wolfman Jack, this was a treat to listen to.
Wolfman Jack was born in New York City but had to go to Mexico to get his big break in radio. How great that he got back to work on NY radio before he died in 1995. Read his great autobiography "Have Mercy!" He had quite a life. I listened to him in the 70's and saw him in person once. I'm sorry he died so young.
Loved and miss the Wolfman, but just think, his howl is spreading out across the universe at the speed of light! Somewhere, out the Wolfman still howls!
Having been in radio since getting out of high school I can say this man WAS THE BEST!!! and very inspirational. It is tragedy what the business has become today but his memories will last forever.
wow. i was a "groupie at superstar radio in 73 and 74 at studio 2b at 30 rock. knew most of the dj's and engineers, just from going up there and hanging out in front of the glass. amazing how friendly all the people were, and didnt care if some groupie kids hung out there all day long if you just watched and didnt make a fuss. after a few weeks of that my friend and i were invited to "hang out" in the studio. it lasted 2 years. miss you wolf, biggie, harry t, jerry flash, murray the k,harvey p
That area is where the TV network does their satellite stuff now. That was my area and I used to think about all of teh great music that used to come out of that area occasionally while I was working there.
Am reading his autobiography that was published in 1995 (he died soon after it came out). Nice part about his memories working at WNBC. Appreciate the clip.
Radio FLAT SUCKS nowdays. It has lost it's personalities and dynamism. Pathetic. I long for the days of the Wolfman and all the other local DJ personalities.
Wolfman Jack is the best DJ ever. I grew up with the man every night listening to his midnight specials and great voice. I will love him forever...and stay a fan forever---
Wolf man is the best, remember him blasting across the mexican border, be he would stand up against the evil in our world today, peace and love, chreii, nuff said.
This brings back so many memories, just hearing wolfman say 'wnbc baby" I feel like I'm 15 again. I would sit in my parents car and listen to the wolfman on wnbc. Man do I miss those days.
He sounds like the crazy taxi dude.
