I have encountered often that Thai soldiers have helped me during the rainy season, they are courteous, show u the way, assist the elderly, help u when ur car got stuck. Where in the world u find soldiers that assist tourists and speak respectfully. Thaksin sold his company, earned lots from this. And ofcourse he took bribes, everybody knows this, he is a crook. Think he is typical Thai, almost every Thai would have done the same in his position, and most do the same in that position. Surely no reason to have a coup in Thailand, we all know the true reasons, right?

I partially agree with you on the second part though, the majority of Thai ppl would have done the same thing, but most people aren't cunning and evil as Thaksin to change the law for his own benefit, and he earned that amount of money before he sold the company.
