The social security and medicare systems in the USA is just a legalized up-side-down pyramid scheme where there's not enough young people to support the mass numbers of elderly people. Eventually it will collapse.

The elderly lady laughed and said going to doctor is her social life. IT WAS A JOKE. YET STOSSEL takes it LITERALLY .......... I'm not saying Stossel might not have a point here. But I heard him on Fox say the same thing, that seniors use medicare as a social life. It's a terrible, terrible thing to seriously accuse seniors of using going to doctor as social life. Maybe when Stossel turns 90 a light bulb will click on and he will finally get it.

The majority of seniors on Medicare cannot afford the ever increasing medical/pharm. expenses imposed on their fixed income and are forced on to Medicare part C or D (which is far less glamorous I assure you). Let's do away with Medicare instead of fixing it and make those freeloaders get a job. You don't BREAK your socialsafety nets when they no longer work, you FIX them.

Don't trust anyone over 50. All the wealthiest people I know are seniors. Yet this country doesn't want to provide health care to kids. There is so many baby boomers we can't out vote them. Gen X and Y are screwed. They will raise our taxes and the national debt continousley to keep their entitlements and pensions coming in.

She probably doesn't have any. That would have limited her self-indulgence in life and had them work towards a meaning that isn't simply a personal lifestyle obsession but a better future for humanity. Luckily, spoiled children die out.

I hate in Canada and I am sure other developed countries when illegal immigrants sneak in and get detained but get free healthcare and even welfare while they wait for their hearings. There are just too many fucking people, espcially ones with medical problems that cost alot

One big improvement would be to get healthcare providers to BID for services, just like any other Government contract.

If a 100,000 seniors need a certain treatment - Medicare should be in a position to force them to look for the most affordable provider.

@LibertyDownUnder I am pretty sure it kind of works that way. It pays very little for treatments. That is one of the reasons that private insurers are charged so much. Some of the medicare/caid treatments pay less then the cost to the doctors.
