I know this sounds dumb, but to me this has always seemed like a Pearl Harbor tribute. Yes, from the lyrics its obvious that that is not what was meant, but key words such as "It died with an awful sound", "Smoke on the water, fire in the sky", and the general idea makes me think of Pearl Harbor. It would be interesting to have a music video of a Pearl Harbor level on some videogame with this song in the background.
