  • 1 Dislike in over 40,000 views...1 guy is pissed about his stubborn gut!

  • hey man, nice demonstration. i'll get started on these russian twists pronto. but a quick question....

im doing this primarily to burn the handles and belly... my diet is good, real healthy.

but what kind of cardio would you recommend along with this exercise?

should cardio be done before in order to increase heart rate or what? and specifically which cardio exercises are most effective when combined with the Russian twist?

    thanks!

  • @FunkadelicSurprise Sorry for late response, I'm in the process of moving all my videos to my new channel MyFrugalFitness so subscribe if you want to see all my 170+ new and improved Frugal Fitness Vids! As for your question, I usually do abs right before cardio, maybe 10-15 minutes straight (including some lower back exercises) then a variety of cardio that includes some high intensity intervals. Hope this helps!

  • What shoes are you wearing, those are cool!

  • @Grapplefan12000 Those would be my Under Armour Cross-Trainers, the model from like 2 years ago when this video was filmed. They are great shoes, although they cost $70-85 usually (one of the few expensive items I get, even though that isn't too bad for a good pair of shoes). Under Armour Cross-trainers are great, I've bought 5 pairs or so only 1 sucked becuase the front was all plastic so no ventilation and my feet sweat a lot, gross!

  • @wyciskTV OK thanks I think? lol

  • @MikeSchiemerCPT Just kidding, mate. As a matter of fact I just ruined my back yesterday doing this shit...

  • @wyciskTV cuz u are doin it wrong!

  • @MrElectroxx TEACH ME!

  • @wyciskTV well ur lower back can not be straight like a plank... u need to roll em ( - like that, and USE stomach muscles (flex em to the limit), and do it briskly i mean twist. thats how u do it :)

  • @wyciskTV juz nie chce mi sie pisac po POLSKU haha

  • WEIGHTED LYING THRILLER DANCE

  • @Omicron91 Haha never thought of it like that but yes!!!

  • Massie respect for the metallica tattoo :P i have it too =D

  • @masterofpuppets2092 Hell ya man! Keep rockin, it is a sweet tattoo indeed! :)

  • @MikeSchiemerCPT how high do u have to bring up ur abs?

  • @jackattack6198 I would say it depends on your body proportions (length and mass) but roughly try to lean back halfway from a seated position so that your upper body and the mat make about a 45 degree angle

  • Nice vid thanks for showing how to do them

  • @chobitsichigo Thanks for watching, glad you like it!

  • What's the purpose of holding the weight?

  • @MetaIhead89 to make your obliques(i think that muscle) work harder to twist, increasing its size/definition/sumthin like that

  • @ULTRATURBOJEZUS Yup just makes your body work harder, may burn more calories, and/or just for sake of variety!

  • @ULTRATURBOJEZUS Good for athletes as well that need to rotate or resist rotation against extra resistance such as a fighter or athlete in a contact sport (football, hockey)

  • @ULTRATURBOJEZUS This is Mike Schiemer's New Channel! Please subscribe if you haven't already for new videos! :)

  • @MetaIhead89 Increases difficulty of the movement so you will end up burning more calories, also regular russian twists with no added weight can become too easy for some people after awhile

  • In this exercise your shoulder should be stationary and not move side-to-side. Only your obliques should be moving.

  • Props for the metallica tattoo! and the information!

  • @infinitypro12 Oh hell yea, rock on! Thanks for watchin!

  • does this work the external obliques? I'm trying to cinch my waist in a little more...

  • @hushers101 It can help to strength, stretch and a little muscle to our sides (oblique area) but it isn't going to get you looking ripped up unless you do plenty of lifting cardio, and dieting on top of theses twists. That's the only way to get rid of the love handles and reveal the small shredded muscles beneath

  • Hey my first video to hit 10,000 views! (Despite the terrible production quality) Thanks everyone!

  • Hey I notice you're one of the few on youtube who keeps their head/spine still. I read that this way was more beneficial from some sources because you're just using your core, however, most people tend to move the whole upper body inc. head. Is that just gym complacency or forgetfulness and is it actually better to keep spine/head straight?

P.s. what's your favorite lower ab excercise? I want one that doesn't over-work the hip flexors, or is cardio-interval training best here too?

    Thanks

  • @mambo29 It is always best to keep your spine, including your neck, in a neutral position to prevent excess stress on your discs and surrounding muscles. Moving your head and neck side to side as you do the exercise definitely doesn't work the abs any more so I don't see why people do that. Cardio and diet are crucial for revealing lower abdominal definition, I would say my favorites are leg raises, atomic crunches, V-ups, and suitcases

  • when you do these, does it matter if your legs stay still or not ?

  • @MistaaahViieT It is very hard not to move your legs at least a little bit but I think some of my leg movement is due to lack of flexibility in my lumber spine (lower back). The less flexibility you have in your core muscles, the harder it will be to minimize other movements. Just don't cross your feet otherwise one hip flexor will be doing much more work than the other!

  • well with the way i did it yesterday i'd feel like i could do a lot

i done it qucikly and i heard a lot of snaps in my spine( like when you crack your fingers)

so it made my spine more flexible but like i reckon i could do a lot of these

cos my abs are visible but not like yours are in the exercise if you know what i mean..

i do hard exercises, leg raises, foot to foot crunch and i want these to be good as well

maybe i'm doing it wrong, i'll try again at let you know

    apologoies for the paragraph

  • i know this has like NOTHING to do with your video

can i ask you how do i cut or continue my midline?

my midline cut throught the first 2 top abs only, the rest ones it does not cut through

it shows like a complete pack, not 2

    THANKS

  • @hammod3 For most people, it is harder to get definition in the mid and lower abs because the lower you go the more your body naturally stores its bodyfat. You can do plenty of ab exercises but consistent weight training, cardio, and diet is the only way to get rid of the fat covering your midline and visually separating your abs into a 4 or 6 pack. Burn that fat!

  • @MikeSchiemerCPT thanks mate

  • yes does this work all areas of abs?

    or just the sides?

  • @therealdonut45 These work your rectus abdominus (the six pack abs muscles), your obliques, and the hip flexors. All of the above my friend this exercise does it all!

  • @MikeSchiemerCPT then thank you

    although i don;t think i do it properly :S

are you supposed to feel a burn or anything ?

  • @therealdonut45 You will eventually feel a burn, although sometimes your hip flexors will fatigue quicker than your actual ab muscles. Also depends on how fast you go and if you use a weight or not. I say go until you get a burn or your form starts to go

  • I love this exercise!! Personally one of my favorites.. damn russians

  • @Ultimatebrownstuff In Soviet Russia, russians twist you!

  • Cool man, but when I do it I seem to loose my balance and like fall to the side.

  • @globalko You will get the balance and coordination down in a few days of tryin it out or less. It is harder for some people because of the upper-lower body weight distribution may vary. Keep practicing and you'll get it!

  • This one looks great!

I am going to implement it into my workout tomorrow, Thanks

  • @twobeavers It's a great one for abs and obliques, even for athletic movements! I would do it early in your ab workout before they get too tired

  • going to do theses too

  • @tinypuppies3 Glad you like the exercise, it will certainly add something extra to your core workout, thanks for watching!
