  • I mean the 1st few seconds (typed too fast !!…)

  • nice music

  • 00:19 to 00:27 sounds like a sample of Fort Minor's "Believe Me", nice.

  • Oh fresnel lens, you so crazy :)

  • 1.9 KW is the name of the band that was playing that music. LOL

  • is that fort minor @0:20 ?

  • I just scored a sweet 33''x25'' lens from a real old skool projection TV. Would you happen to know how much power this will potentially have ?? The lens has a sticker on the edge that says ACRYLENS JAPAN 027863 ?

  • You have a rare barn Burner! TREAT IT WELL AND USE CAUTION! It is the strongest made. They are Out of Business, There were very few Acrylens Made.

  • Yep, She is a beauty, I tried it out today It has a focal length of approx. 36", draws a nice little 1/2'' bead and burns holes clean through 1/8" steel plate in about 10 secs. I also live in MA so the sun is still pretty low in the sky.

  • Psst, when is the vid of actual using of the lens coming out? I can't find it D:

  • it's right in front of you dummy

  • I meant GREENPOWERSCIENCE actually using it, dummy

  • That temperature can obtain the different sizes of the lenses fresnel?

  • That temperature can obtain the different sizes of the lenses fresnel?

  • They sell these on ebay under fresnel lense for 200.00

  • It really wasn't cool for you to pretend your child was in the balloon like that ;)

  • I wonder: can you use a lense like this to generate enough heat to melt, say, copper?

  • The greatest use of sun cooking i do is sun tea yum.

  • I just picked up my first fresnel lens from a big screen tv by the side of the road. It works! I already started experimenting with it. And after I build a frame for it, will give it to my father-in-law. Because he is always cooking outside.

  • May I ask, what kind of big screen tv's use this type of lens? I've been wondering where to get one and I know of where TVs are disposed of..

  • Your looking for the big, deep projection type. The one I found has a lower base about 2 ft. tall, where the blue, green and red projectors are located. Then the top "screen" section was about 3 feet high, this is where the screen is attached. The whole thing is about 2 feet deep. This is what your looking for. Keep in mind that the front darker screen is just a filter, so scratches here don't matter.

  • Only some work good, most from 1995+ are diffused Linear lenses with about 40% light transmission. Anything pre 1995 should work great. Spot lenses were used then and before. Most are gone now.

Good Linear lenses ended in 97'. The view from all angle required a much softer focus lens to act as a more viewable image behind the Lenticular Lens.

Older the better, off market TV's had the best lenses for solar. Sony Panasonic Mitsubishi and Zenith are okay but not great.

  • Also there are 4 types of Spot lens manufacturing process and 1 Linear Type.

  • nice lenz. what's cookin? boil or steam up some lobster and loquat tea. Hey Dan drain off the juice from the steak and put it near the focal piont to sun fry the mosquiters. LOL

    MUDDy

  • what were the songs?

  • They were riffs I mixed in Garage Band.

    Dan

  • its a light cannon lol but wow cant wait for the real vid 5*

  • the never ending fresnel lens experiments.

  • WANT! :D

    ...or maybe a solar panel...

Ima go for a solar panel, eh? :p

  • This could be very good for cooking? for everywhere... but especially India, Africa... to keep the humans from cutting-down all the trees. if you put a solar-cell under that... would it make more voltage? or amperage? or fry!

  • huuuuuge!

  • It's huge!

  • That's what she said

  • will you be doing any videos on deciding on a cool place to store a battery cabinet, inverter and other electronics? maybe rather than thinking of powering the home at 110volt and centrally, a home solar system could be split into various portions and powering low voltage lighting and devices (computers) whenever possible

  • well its ok but it's not 1.21 gawatts XD

  • what is the cheapest way to get a lens like that?

  • Go to craigslist, under the free section. Folks are always giving away free projection TV's that no longer work. They use these lenses for a screen.

  • *Wonders.. At what distance from the lens does the heat completely dissipate?

  • Do your neighbors think your nuts? I know mine do!

  • They just dont ask anymore:-) The solar oven got a lot of attention. "Are you a magician"? "is it a shrk tank"?

    LOL:-)

Rock climbing wall / fort is awesome!

  • Solar the Great will now disappear before your eyes in his Amazing shark tank! His lovely assistant will heat the water to 3000 degrees.

  • are those the projector lens ?

  • This type is not, it was from a light application. Some do have great lenses, older the better.

    Dan

  • Every time I see these lenses I am in awe. I am working with my family on the concept of a solar water heating system using one. We will be buying one within a few months from you, sir.

  • He gona set the planet on fire with that.lol

  • Where can I purchase one of these?! Might as well take advantage of the Florida sun in my backyard. Excellent videos, mighty impressive - especially your hurricane shelter!

  • Wow, you finally got one you can weld with! You look like a kid in the candy store.

  • GreenPower, I love your channel but had a question. If these lenses hit several thousand degrees F and can maintain that temperature as long as there is sun, why aren't power companies using them to heat up water before it goes into coal plants/nuclear power plants.

Wouldn't hotter water coming in mean less coal used?

  • There are power plants which utilize solar thermal-electric generation exclusively without the need for any coal at all. Coal plants are not necessarily in places which have a high average solar yield as that is not a design consideration for firing coal. It makes more sense then, if you want to use solar thermal to offset coal firing, to just build more solar-thermal plants in sunny areas such as the southwestern US.

  • Could you use this with an old style (non-electric) waffle or krumkake iron for cooking?

  • wow, this looks like an amazing project. Good luck, hope the idea works well. This could inspire thousands to follow in your footsteps.

  • looks exciting

  • can't wait to see that

    that will be great

    keep the good work^_^

    you are the best

  • :-) THANK YOU for the nice comment.

  • Wow, that's a really large lens. What are you going to do with it?

  • Try to get the larger Stirling engine (off the shelf) running with the sun. Also going for some steam power. Larger engine.

  • Awesome! I look forward to seeing it in action {:o)
