i liked her until she insulted david bowie (an far superior artist) at the grammies...these people talk about 'respect' but they don't know the meaning of the word. bowie is a genius artist and writer - franklin is just an interpreter of other (mostly white) people's material. she should show some respect if she expects US to show her any.

@uclrichard Oh and if you wanna bring race into this, you'll lose, considering that the roots of the genres of music that David Bowie has traversed throughout his career are predominantly 'Black', as are most popular forms of 20th century music. So I don't see what your trying to prove by saying that she covered songs by predominently 'white' people. For real?? It seems you are trying to diminish Aretha, a virtuoso singer and pianist, who is far more revered than David Bowie will ever be.

@uclrichard Aretha has written many great songs that have stood the test of time, and a lot of her renditions of songs by artists she covers, are superior than the original. Otis Redding's 'Respect' is the obvious example, but she is not limited to any genre. From Gospel, to Blues, Jazz, R&B and Pop, Aretha's genius defined an era of American music, and she remains the inspiration for many of the greatest singers across all genres of popular music.
