  • this FREAKING AWWWEEESSSSOOOMMMMEEEEE

  • Like this a lot. Wish they spent some more time on it -- but not too much, since Uplifter and U.P were over-produced.

  • fucking sickkkkk

  • they need to do an all out instrumental album soon

  • this song reminds me of ass fuckin my friends wife.just kidding this song only sucks cuz its not complete....or good.dont get mad just my opinion.not that anyone cares..but fuck you thats my opinion.

  • @bluefukingreene I like the instrumental, but they can't write lyrics anymore. The whole ass fucking your friend's wife thing was hilarious though. LOL

  • @JPPraterCO08 lets see your lyrics

  • @MrRoostyr Doesn't matter if I can write lyrics or not, anything is better than the lyrics on the DTOM album.

  • @JPPraterCO08 Dude don't make an ass of yourself. But now I'm curious. What makes them bad? What do you want them to say? What do you want them to do? They sound like the same old Posotive 311 they have always been.

  • @MrRoostyr Make an ass of myself? What happened to respect of opinion?

I'm just saying, since the days of From Chaos, the lyrics have gotten a little more cheesy on each take. However, U.P. didn't have any bad lyrics at all.

    They came back.

    Settle down.

  • @JPPraterCO08 There's always somethig to dig in 311 for me. I never had a problem with any of the lyrics. Just the sond of Nick or S.A.'S voice is good enough for me. Or the bass guitar, the guitar, drums. Anthing they do isn't hard for me to like. The only things that bugged me are P-nut using a pick on "Froic Room" amd Chad switching to PEARL. I have lived in Utah most of my life and its the worst place i've ever lived. Any 311 is better than no 311 in this dirt bowl called the salt lake area

  • @JPPraterCO08 Who Cares? Bring on the cheesy lyrics! Anything 311 makes is awesome!

  • @MrRoostyr You're making an ass out of yourself by being a fanboy who can't take a difference of opinion.

  • @Doyledeth I guess you are entitled to your wrong opinion.

  • @MrRoostyr My opinion is correct, because I believe it is, just like you do yours.

  • @Doyledeth No I'm right because I'm smarter and listen to alot more music than you do. And do you have a pic of O.J. Simpson as your profile photo? Dude thAT IS CREEPY. If that is him anyway......

  • @MrRoostyr If you're smarter you would realize It's a sarcastic Photo of him and Casey Anthony which gives the message that they belong together, which is hilariously accurate. How would you know whether you listen to more music than I do? That's an asinine assumption especially since we don;t know each other and people can never know that about one another. What an idiotic statement, lmao.

  • @Doyledeth Listen mother fucker. I know I listen to more music that you do just becasue of the way you talk. I can also listen to music longer. Go fuck your self you child molester.

  • @MrRoostyr You have to be the biggest idiot i have ever come across on here.

  • @MrRoostyr Careful , your mom might find out you've been playing on her computer again. Total IDIOT. You can listen to music longer???? WTF is that about? You're kinda retarded, aren't you?

  • @JPPraterCO08 And actually it does. Write me some lyrics. Lets see what you got. I'm not a hot head at the moment I'm just curious.

  • This song make me cream. Such a shame that it was just set aside and forgotten about.

  • Damn i would love to hear this shit complete.live. POWWOW '11

  • i woke up draming this song, the last part solo guitar, with a window in the night sky and the moon lite throw glass, what does it mean,it felt emotional, like missing something out of nuthiing. dam this song has wounders

  • This is such a beautiful song i wanna learn this and play it to my girlfriend

    311 for life

  • aww this song reminds me of going to the lake

  • The story I heard about this song was Nick couldnt complete lyrics to the whole song so it never made it on the record. Shame its a great song but short (due to lyrics Im sure)

  • this belongs on an album!

  • i really dont like their new sound.

still mad respect, just not feeling this new sound at all....

  • agreed but you gotta think...they cant really continue to make insane raps on every song...there 40 years old and prob not gona be doing this for much longer..id say 5 or 6 more years at the most touring anyways

  • @gjl92711

    311 will continue...

i think its time in their career they should start collaborating with others

they still rock their old shit true and through.

mahoney's sound effects board live captures all the ages of music they made.

  • @gjl92711 i give it way more than 5 to 6 years. their energy is getting higher fan wise, and like they said recently on their cruise... they will keep rockin as long as people have ears !!!

  • I wish so fucking much that they come to brazil. Unfortunately, it is unlikely.

  • NKS wonderin round my head again

  • how can i get these songs!!!!

  • yea this song tight

  • yea this song tight

  • This song is amazing! Tim Mahoney's intro with the guitar is so tender. They need to put some more work into this one and put it on an album.

  • DAMN that there is miT's wah-wah-bubbly-Amber-esque pedal effect. Which I love.

Nick's buh-dum-duh's make me cringe tho. And this drum beat is... not as... Cool as it could be? I dunno, sounds like a drum machine.....

  • @thaicedtea666 yeah thats why its called a "demo" not an actual studio recording of the song and the drums are a drum machine...it's just to get the idea down.

  • @thaicedtea666 Its a demo, so yes its a drum machine.

  • @atlniner It's not a drum machine xP I know this was 11 months ago, but I just wanted to say :P

  • @ewokbreeder Actually it is. Nick has protools on his bus, and all of these drums are programmed.

  • I can't stop listening to this. It's amazing!! I hope they finish it!

  • what year is this?

  • @reggaecracker 2005 for DTOM

  • 311's b-sides and demos are awesome, as well as everything else they did!! fav band 4 ever!! if anyone on here does'nt have the rare stuff, just ask me.

  • @chestergoku

yes i need them all...i would like to have them in any format you have..i love these demos. im a long time 311 lover and just discovered all these demos the other day!

  • @joearmpit i'll send them to you.

  • @chestergoku

Dude if u have the rare 311 demos i would love to get them from you, ive been lookin for them forever

  • chestergoku, i would love to get thiss stuff!! Let me know how!

  • At the concert Nick said he had writers block so they never finished this song. But they will finish it for the next album

  • @Iknowgoodmusic

    awesome news

  • this is nice where can i get it?

  • tim mahoney is a master with the wah wah sound. This song shoulda made the cut.

  • @java0101 Yea it sounds like a wah but the pedal he uses to get that sound is a Q tron. When i first found out thats what he was using i bought one that same day lol.

  • anyone know where i can download this

    this song is absolutly sick

  • 311 needs to read these comments and release this, it is killer!

  • Talk about creativity..... Nice and catchy melody! <333

  • B E utiful

  • Where the hell did this song come from its awesome!!

  • It was recorded during the sessions for Don't Tread on Me. It's never been released. All of these MP3's were leaked shortly before the release of the album. I own then all too.

  • holy shit what is this its awesome!

  • It's not just that they clearly didn't finish this song and left it off an album, but that they left it off of DTOM of all albums. This would have been one of the best songs on DTOM easily if they took a bit of time to add a bit more to the song. Maybe they were facing songwriter's block on it.

  • And this song needs to be put on a 311 album

  • This song is really bout it..

  • this is siiiick. 311 down for the unity

  • This song is so sick... I don't think we'll ever know why it wasn't released

  • Honestly I think this is the best 311 song ive ever heard

It cheered me up after my friends funeral

    311 for life!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm with you bro..My best friend died of an overdose on 3-11-07. 311 was our bridge. He introduced me to "Music "and from there it was 40 shows in 6 different states later. He was my kindred soul, more than a friend, he was more like my brother! Rest in piece Phil. I love you and miss you always. 311 for life for sure!

  • yea y the fuck is this not released good shit

  • Where did this come from and why is it not on a cd? Its awesome!! Is it a B-side? Anyone know???

  • if this was on transistor,sa would be flowing on this track. trust..

  • where the hell did u get this?????? How do i get it????

  • TRANSISTOR IS IT!!!!!

  • transistor is their most focused piece of work. it takes all the good things that they did in the past and fused it with alot of futuristic elements which they used alot on later records. after this record things definately took a downward turn but they still pump out some classic material here and there

  • Transistor was the absolute climax of 311..Best cd I've ever bought...I fell in love with it right away

  • Yes.. 311 practically producing themselves with soundman Scotch Ralston picking up the producer credit. I'm a fan of uplifter... but i think they need to revisit the self production route... and make another masterpiece

  • yeah when they were with Scotch they were at their best.but i want them to get back to the blue album style or maybe Transistor

  • Agreed...one of the best mixed albums of all time, imo

  • Ya man good list!

  • joshhaz ... 311 shit ... 311 shit 1. Music (9.44) 2. Soundsystem/From Chaos (9.10) 4. Grassroots (9.00) 5. Blue Album/Transistor (8.83) 7. Evolver (8.00)* 8. DTOM (7.33)* *Evolver and DTOM benefited most from this system. I dropped a 4&6 from Evolver and a 3&6 from DTOM. Also, some may bitch, but its best to look at the scores, not the rankings

  • Here is my rankings for 311 albums. I actually went through ranking every 311 song 1-10 on each album. I then dropped the 2 lows from each album, except Transistor which I dropped 3, which i think is fair. I then took the average scores and thats how I made these rankings. My Rankings and their averages out of 10 are in the next comment.

  • You guys are crazy! Maybe you gotta be a hardcore head but I think all the albums are killer. I love the fact that they have tons of songs that don't sound like each other. The last thing you want to do is re-release the same album over and over again.

  • Yeah, I've been a fan for going on 15 years now, and I think ALL their albums are good, but if I had to rank them it would be:

    Transistor/Grassroots (tie for 1st)

    Music

    From Chaos

    Omaha Sessions

    Blue

    Evolver

    Sound System

    Don't Tread On Me

It's funny that Sound System and Don't Tread On Me had some of the best songs on them ("Flowing," "Sever," and "Long for the Flowers"), but overall as albums they weren't quite as solid as the others in my opinion.

  • Hmmm... For me, as far as my opinion, it's

    Blue

    Grassroots

    Music

    From Chaos

    Soundsystem

    Evolver

    Transistor

    Don't Tread On Me

  • Blue is definitely a solid album. A good rock and roll album. To me, though, while the sound was rockin', the songs just weren't quite as complex lyrically as they are on most other albums. Guns are for Pussies and Brodels are probably my favorite songs on that one.

Why do you rank Transistor so low?

  • I'm into 311 for rap.

Overall, there are only a few rap songs on that album: Galaxy, No Control, Tune In, the 2nd half of Starshines and Borders. I know this may sound dumb, but I'm really not into their softer stuff. I like Chad-written songs, because he generally is the one with the hard and heavy kick ass music (Hydroponic, Still Dreaming, Thank Your Lucky Stars, Wake Your Mind Up) and he didn't do really hard stuff for that album besides Galaxy.

  • And in all honesty, I don't like where Nick Hexum is taking the band. His lyrics are so corny now, but SA is still as poetic and imaginitive as ever.

  • You know i remeber when i was checking out DTOM on Amazon when it came out, and It let you in on the artist Nick was currently listening to.

All the artist were all these light rock singer/songwriter types...most of which I never heard of - from what i heard of them - not my thing.

  • I don't think I'd agree with that . . . Long for the Flowers has some of the best lyrics ever, by Nick, and that same album has one of the corniest lyrics ever, by SA: "does it have a sign in the window, ice cold six-packs to go?"

311 has always been about more than raprock. That was just kind of a fad that they helped pioneer and have mostly evolved past at this point. I'm glad they did it, but I'm equally glad they're not still stuck in in. It would be kind of pathetic.

  • About the SA lyric, that was a homage to the bar Frolic Room.

And I know that, but I like the rap the most.

  • And my favorite songs:

Down, Jackolantern's Weather, Hive, Guns, Hydroponic, Applied Science, Salsa, Homebrew, Firewater, Freak Out, Wake Your Mind Up, You Get Worked, Full Ride, Can't Fade Me, Fuck the Bullshit, Space Funk, Nutsymtom, Silver, Six, Misdirected Hostility, Brodels, T&P Combo, The Continuous Life, Gap, Soulsucker, This Too Shall Pass, Creatures, Freeze Time, Livin & Rockin

And my all time favorite 311 song is... Loco.

  • That's not to say I don't like any other songs, but those are my favorite. And if you notice, there are like 13 of those songs that were either completely penned by Chad (musically) or he had something to do with it. I just like the old days of 311, nothing much past the Blue Album, although I do still like the rest.

  • @JPPraterCO08 Not sure if you went to 311 day 2010 or not, but the DTOM songs rock hard live that night. I came home, broke out the DTOM CD and have been loving it ever since. I really use to hate that album, but it has really, really grown on me now. It's Getting OK now is an amazing rockin song.

  • @JPPraterCO08 i think you forgot "galaxy" :P

  • Good song. I feel like they let the critics get to them with Transistor, because I remember when it came out every review - positive or negative - said it was too long. Fuck that. Transistor and Grassroots are their two best albums. I hope the next album is looooooong.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love Music and the Blue Album, but I think Transistor and Grassroots our their best albums too :P

  • I think they sound really spontaneous and fresh on Grassroots - and the way the songs end are amazing. The Blue Album is solid from top to bottom. Transistor IS too long - It should be about 12 good songs. Most of the songs I just skip.

My fave of Music is VIST - that song rocks!

  • u really missed out on the nuance of transistor if u skipped track on that album.... every single song on that albums was totally awesome.. take a few more listen... u didnt know wat u miss out on.

  • I listened to every nuance over and over again man! I bought the album as soon as it came out - stole the display at the cd store and had a sticker on my old car. There are some weak tracks on it, but if the mood strikes me I listen to them.

  • awesome.... maybe it's a matter of taste.... to me every note from opening track transistor to the alien ship flying off in Stealing happy hours is great.

  • True that. Part of what makes Transistor so awesome is simply the quantity. Why hold anything back if you can fit it on the CD?

  • EXACTLY transistor was totally awesome... and the fact is that it's long, makes it even more awesome. Fav album of all time that one.

  • Absolutely Fantastic... I would love to see this song finished and put on Uplifter!

  • Damn this song is sick!!!Where can I get this

  • such a beautiful song . . . I love envelope filters!

    Tim Mahoney is the Man!

  • why was this not on that last album.. why?

  • because they had like twenty songs and not all of them could make it on their last cd.

  • they could have put this in instead of "waiting".. prolly my LEAST fav 311 song..

  • Agreeeeed.

  • why not? they did it for Transistor

  • That's why "Transistor" is so good -- it breaks all the "rules" that exist in the music industry.
