You have made some very interesting points. Have you considered the socio-economic group that the majority of crime perpetrators to come from? Im talking about at 'street level' statistics show they are lower class (This they do not admit to however!). In my opinion if you commit a crime, dependant on the severity you should go to jail and be made/forced to work and the jail/warehouse should make produce that can be sold on to raise the countrys revenue. Does this seem a viable option?
"something simple like a youth group could completely change your community"
No, no it couldn't. People are pretty much formed by the age of 7. If you have been destroyed mentally by that age, by your parents or surrounding then having a youth group won't stop that young person becoming a criminal.
Unfortunately too much effort is going in to helping people "reform" and that's why the problem isn't stopping.
Its a sad and pessimistic view to take but unfortunately true too.
on peer pressure - its not their fault they submit to peer pressure, its how the human mind is wired. Peer Pressure is not so different to a minor form of Stockholm Syndrome, the need to fit in overrules the rational part of the mind.
Hello, Beth. I enjoyed listening to what you had to say in this video but I can't remember what I was going to type in response so instead I'll just say that I think it's cool that my birthday's on May 29th and I'm 17 too.
I know, you mentioned it in a video I watched ages ago and ever since then I've wanted to tell you when my birthday is, sad as that may sound. Haha. =)
Argh, comment too short. I had nothing more to add to the conversation but Youtube wouldn't let me just leave it with a smiley face. Ok then, byebye, nearly-birthday-twin. =)
some of the points were true and did make alot of sense, i oculd relate to some points, being a teenager myself... but you did contradict yourself a few times
Nice video Beth. PSCO's have always been a problem for young people. We used to call them Hobby Bobby's or Rent-a-Cops. Would you prefer to see a real Policeman instead?
i think it's just stereotyped with different age groups, it's like a certain way of how people dress too. an gothic teenager could be accused for being a pot head or what not... what if they were well being citizens? it's irritating the whole teenage stereotype.
A PCSO has less powers than a bouncer... its the fact ther in uniform to try let people know their at presence... when infact most people know they just bug you.

What do you think the long term effects of some of these things are?
Feeling like you can't spend time in public places like parks etc. Young people being jailed (perhaps) unnecessarily...
The immediate frustrations are clear. But I wonder what the social and cultural consequences will be when the same young people are adults.
Trust, rights, community, authority... what will it do to these things I wonder..

If it's a crime to impersonate a Police officer, why do we have PCSOs? :D
