this game was really hard to run. it demanded more base ram, regardless of your autoexec, minus an actual nerd. ;p then windows 95 made that more convenient, games now typically work.
Hello my fellow Terrans, yeah wow. That was bad. I had a question. I downloaded this earlier today and I am wondering if I have the images of the four CD's in the file, how would I go about playing it on my computer? Would I need a dos box? Thanks all for your help. I *Can't WAIT* to play this again.
i think if they never made the movie. and if they just keep going with the gmaes cinematics and stuff. or just stick with the cartoons they had like the first 2. it would be good to see it come out around this time as an 90s anime style of a movie like treasure planet or Titan A.E. or a transformers style of CGI to make it good
Also can we all agree that the intro is so SW wannabe.... first the big the ships, then the scrolling down the to planet. And the scene with Angel reeks of Leia in front of either Vader or Tarkin. Don't get me wrong i loved the WC games..it's just. yeah. So glad that FMV in video games died with the 90's. However for all the silliness of such a project, Hamill and Rhys-Davies did a fine job.
@Novacoma I think being a well-done Star Wars wannabe was always kinda the point of the Wing Commander games. I mean, hell, they even got Mark Hamil to play a fighter pilot who lives on a farm on a desert planet :-D
@Novacoma What I dislike the most about the Kilrathi is the voice acting. You'd think that creatures like them would have deep growling voices, not hoarse voices with few growls overdubbed on them.
I love how Mark Hamill winds up being not one, but two sci-fi heroes. Incidentally, both are good pilots. Luke, the destroyer of the Death Star, and Christopher Blair, the guy who turned the tide of the war. According to official trivia, he's the 11th highest scoring pilot in Confed. Maniac was 14th. The rest on the top 20 were dead.
I love the way it looks like they're looking at the spaceship exploding in horror, but when the camera flicks to their faces, they just look underwhelmed and bored by the effects XD
They are EVALUATING the wreckage that has been discovered (JUST as the dialogue states, if you're paying attention), NOT watching it just now blow up. Those explosions are just small continuing explosions (probably ammo and/or fuel blowing up), not the overall wreck of the ship. They are not UNDERWHELMED or BORED, as the dialogue also makes ABUNDANTLY clear, they are war-weary and discouraged.
Indeed it is. Game also has Malcolm McDowell and former porno actress Ginger Lynn (whom I have met), and also Tom Wilson (Biff from the Back to the Future movies, and whom I've also met - really nice guy).
This was my first WC game I ever played, and I want to play it again, is there A) A way I can download this game and B) Will it run on Windows 7, or do I need some form of VM to run it?
One thing I don't get is how the Concordia is 'suddenly' found on Vespus destroyed. A bit of a shame that it missed a bit of continuity there, having just watched the end of WC2 - Special Ops, the Concordia was fine? And Angel was also aboard then.
quite a few years probably passed before the Concordia died and WC2- Special Ops. I do not believe the Hellcats and Arrows were available at that point in time, so naturally it would be years later.
McDowell was unavailable because he was doing Fantasy Island (the re-imagined series) at the time. If he didn't have prior commitments, McDowell would have played Tolwyn in the movie.
I really miss the games, are there any files for Ubuntu, I found the Privateer, it works great with wine, but over the years I've lost a lot of old great games like this. Is there a place to find them?
Theres an install file which is a .TRE is that any different or is it still fine. But i have 4 discs so im not sure if its on any others or just on disc 1
I just checked the first CD. I do believe that running WC3.Exe does an extraction to the hard disk. Try that, and you will probably get the game to install.
Yep. They should go back to using FMVs a bit more. I know these cutscenes are now showing their age (like obvious greenscreening), but it's something that's enjoyable. Makes it a lot more movie-like, which is something this game did.
@region1111 Plumber's Don't Wear ties was made around this time for the same system...let's be glad they don't. It IS the worst game ever, mainly because it's NOT a game.
@region1111 Hmm....I made a joke similar to that as an afterthought to someone I knew....his mom had died in a car crash not too long before that.....he wasn't happy...I felt like a douche.
Be a little more mature please? You never know what the situation is.
@region1111 What was immature about my sentences? A little comedic at first with the rant...but not really immature. Pardon me, why are we arguing about this?
OMG I GET A WEIRD FEELING OF MY CHILD HOOD, reminds me of the days i Played X-Wing Alliance and Tie Fighter, haha wish they had games like these in our days!
What's amazing about these games, WC3 and 4, is that they were made during the time before the emergence of all the fancy video cards and everything, where these games could run purely on SOFTWARE and they still look amazing considering the technology back then.
Well, not exactly - the video cards of the day were not anything like today's, of course, but I had to buy a new motherboard to accommodate the required local bus video to run the game. Local bus video was not really mainstream yet, it was somewhat 'cutting edge'. But WC3 did run on a 486/33 (official minimum spec was 486/66, but it ran pretty well on the 33 MHz that I had at the time).
But your overall point, that they looked amazing considering the state of tech then, is spot on.
@night524 + how they did the FMV with full blown holywood cast and long length... unlike, example, final fantasy/ metal gear solid CG/game engine crap...
I must say its nice to know there are other wing commander fans out there. You really know your stuff. I thought the movie was a giant disappointment. It should have followed the events of wc3. How cool would it have been to see the bombing run on Kilrah?
Thats right, the concordia is the battle group which defeated the kilrathi invasion attempt in the movie. I believe the tiger claw is brought up in the movie.
Modulated - the Making Of CD or VHS tape (I forget which) showed him recording the dialogue for Thrakhath. He made it a bit growly and gravelly, but not to the point heard in the game.
I still have the Making Of tape and CD (somewhere), the film tin from the Deluxe Edition, the calendar (I think), and the fantastic T-Shirt. Tom Wilson was good enough to autograph my film tin for me.
