that would fuck up the trombone even if there wasnt any clorine it would still destroy it cause of rust within the instrument but if there was clorine it would still fuck it up
@TheBerr123 brass doesn't rust, plus it is lacquered to prevent that, and tap water is chlorinated and is used to clean brass instruments with mild soap.
This is what happens when band geeks get a hold of alcohol and bad ideas......but on the bright side I now know what a drowning trombone player sounds like
Wow, if you dont play trombone or any brass, this is pretty funny. Btw, if you dry it afterwards, it probably wont hurt it. Now.... try it with an electric guitar! lol
okay for all the little kids who are saying this is bad (which i know you are a kid) in marching band , when it starts to rain the woodwinds are asked to put their instruments up due to the pads and stuff. for brass they can still play cause it doesnt really suffer water damge.
@bubblesrock30 here is the thing, the thing is made from metal. The only problem i see is the lubercation gets sticky. all is needed is to take of the bow and put fresh. Its brass so its not gonna rust
@bubblesrock30 You obviously don't know a lot about them, though. You are supposed to give your trombone a bath to clean it. That's pretty much what he's doing
Brass does rust, it just doesn't rust the same as steel. Ever notice a bluish-greenish powder on your instrument? Or worse, red spots on the brass? All signs of oxidation (rust).
@R3velatiOnx Brass doesn't rust. I use to give my trombone a bath every few weeks, just had to dry off the slide lock and the spit cork spring because those were the only pieces that would rust.
Water does not damage brass instruments like it does to any other instruments (woodwinds, perc, ect). The only thing I'm careful about is taking the springs out of my valved instruments like my trumpet and tuba... but that is a trombone... there is nothing to be destroyed.
No, it isn't bad for the trombone. It is just a pea shooter. Brass instruments are allowed to be submersed in water- unlike woodwinds. You'd have a problem if this were done with a woodwind instrument. Very pricey repair.
@RodneyBanta You are right. Saxophones ARE submersible*. Go try it out and tell me what happens. I hope you don't own one or you will be about $300 under for a complete repadding.
@MrsSaraWilshireBibee water's not bad for it, no, but chlorine can cause the laquer to weaken and chip. bottom line, this is stupid. I would NEVER do that to my French horn
I would still be scared to do this with my trumpet. The trombone seems like the most fit to submerge out of all of the brass instruments. I wouldn't want to mess around with the valves. Lord help the person that tries to go underwater with a clarinet!
@beers10 I never said it was like he was giving it a bath. I also never said chlorine was not bad for the instrument. You are putting other people's comments together and acting as if I said it. All I said was in response to all the morons saying that water was bad for it.
@MrsSaraWilshireBibee I wasn't trying to be an ass, sorry if it seemed that way. You only said that it wasn't bad for the trombone and it was fine to submerge brass instruments. I was just asking if chlorine would hurt it. And now I know it does.
@MrsSaraWilshireBibee You're actually supposed to run lukewarm water and some hand soap through the slide to clean a trombone every once in a while; or all that crap builds up inside... XD It's very amusing to see what comes out at the end of each year...
@Shimmar15 lol.. you should see the inside of my clarinet mouthpiece after i've played it so much.. and haven't taken the reed off for a while... O_O when i took my reed off for the first time in a while... i thought something was gonna jump out at me... o.0
@Shimmar15 Yes, I know. After playing my trumpet for 15 years, I think I've learned how to clean it correctly. Also, working and teaching in a rental/repair shop for band instruments, I actually learned how to clean them all.
Did I say anything about "you need to clean your trombone in the pool"? No. Don't put words in my mouth.
@MrsSaraWilshireBibee Snd I wasn't putting words into your mouth. I was directing that comment toward people who were saying this was bad for the trombone; agreeing with you that there was no harm done to the instrument. Even if you did mess up the thing, it's your horn; so it shouldn't matter to other people what you do with it. So I'd appreciate it if you didn't start getting upset with me; I love this video.
@MrsSaraWilshireBibee I tried it once, but my Private Lesson teacher insisted that wasn't good for the inside of the horn. So i stick with hand soap; it works just as well with a bit of time and effort.
For all those who say it's bad for the isntrument. It's actually very good for it... I don't think playing it while soaking it in water is the greatest idea though. Might blow out the spit valve. And might hurt the slide. But if you've ever played a pbrass instrument. you know the best way to clean it is to give it a bath. Just make sure you get all the water out before you play again. Did that with a sousaphone when I walked I could hear a swooshy sound in the instrument haha.
