Apparently all the people in these comments saying that they shouldnt give shoes but rather food and shelter don't understand how hard it is to go barefoot EVERYWHERE. Try it for just one day. Its not easy. Especially considering where the people live they don't have smooth, paved sidewalks and streets. Yeah, giving food is good, but it will only last them a few days, depending on how much food they get. But these shoes will last them months, even years.
I think its funny that there are people on here that complain about the shoes and this company and talk about how "they would do this and they would do that" when the simple fact is. Your not doing anything, your sitting there on your computer like everyone else. I happen to love these shoes and what they are doing. Are they perfect? No but what shoe is, but at least they aren't sitting around waiting for someone else to make the world a better place.
@haiemye NO the shoes are GREAT and there not that expensive, besides, do u think its better for the children to have new comfy shoes, or tattered hand downs??
ya thats what i thought at first until I found out they're not allowed to go to school unless they have shoes, and there are also lots of diseases they could get!!
I'm the only person in my school that owns toms and now that I explain to ppl in why I bought them they promised to buy some too it feels good to help the children in need!!!!
It's funny that when i started wearing TOMS about 3 months ago, everyone in my school was like "Dude, those are some gay ass shoes". And only 10 people in my whole entire school of 3500 kids whore TOMS (that i've seen). But now, atleast 600 kids wear them. :) Thanks Toms.
I just bought two pairs of TOM's shoes and I am proud of it. Life is priceless, and 50$ is quite a bargain to bring help and happiness to the less fortunate.
It is sad that society has reached such a low that when a person truly wants to do good and make the world a better place, people must find the flaws in his every action. So what if he's making a profit? Do you think he would be able to do this if he wasn't? Would people honestly rather see Blake working in an office every day and be making half the salary he is now than making more money but carrying out such an extraordinary deed for the world? Get your priorities straight.
I LOVE THEESE SHOES!!! My sister and brother have a pair and me and my mom are getting a pair!! the best part about this is you get a pair of shoes you like then give another pair to a child in need!!!!!! BLAKE you r my hero!!!!!:)
@sunseteleven I understand your comncern. If you read or understand anything about the big picture of Tom's you would know that the shoe drop is just one of the things they do. They also work with local businesses to set up manufacturing and to create jobs and stimulate their local econmy. I know this becuase I wanted to understand what i was buying before I was buying. I didn't just fall one commercial, I did the research.
I was not interested in TOMS shoes at first because I just thought it is ridiculously expensive compared to how the product looks.
HOWEVER as we always say "don't judge the book by its cover" You may be buying this down-to-earth look shoes but....you're also buying the same shoes for a child in need. TOMS made me realize that we take our life opportunity and standard of living for grant. We get used to the way we live here that we forget what it means to grow up without just plain shoes.
I recently had the pleasure to meet Blake Mycoskie and I can tell you that that man is nothing but inspiration. Since 2006 they have given over 400,000 pairs of shoes, It took 4 years for Toms to return a profit, so if one man can make a difference, change the world and be happy doing it then why shouldnt he be rewarded with a little wealth. I can tell you that his heart his passion and the people that work with him should all be commended.
I don't know what is wrong with danipj, but I will definitely be getting a pair (or more) of Tom's shoes. If that's what it takes to help a child in need, why wouldn't someone want to contribute?
Last night I was thinking: Why am I not doing what I want to do? Which is the impact that publicity has in me? Are we spending our lives answers questions set by liers? I think we should go back to Guy Debord, Marshall Mcluhan and others... And sometimes I think: Have we not learned anything at all in more than 2000 years? Because things do nothing else than to get worse.
I might have gone too strong with this people and I don't have answers for everything. What I know is that I am REALLY tired of all the lies that go trough my eyes everyday. I am REALLY sick on how people does things with the only objective of having a nice living on their own. Seriously, I am not giving any more chances to how things work. Using those children as their marketing strategy... I won't put in words what I'm thinking.
I say what I feel and think, blame me if you like. But when you stop with me, go to a marketing director and ask him what he thinks about the video above. @danipj The shoes are so expensive because your basically buying two pairs. One for you and one for a stranger. They aren't fragile and cheap, their not like normal shoes there like slippers, but you can wear them outside.
I totally agree. I mean what little kid actually wants to wear shoes?! Hell, I kicked them off every chance I got and I doubt those mothers let their kids go to those unsafe roads or toxic areas
Lol at the people with negative comments on this vid.
Seriously guys, I'd give 50 bucks away to some kid if he/she needed shoes. I don't get what the hell the problem is. Of course they are making money, it's a business and they want to continue helping these people. I love my pair of Tom's and I love how somewhere I've helped some kid out.
TOMS shoes is genius. Why? Because they not only make money, but they also help other people. It's a win-win.
Their shoes are shockingly expensive - fourty dollars for a pair of cheap material shoes. However, their advertising campaign is genius - buy a pair, give a pair.
Why is this so smart? Because people will buy these expensive shoes that cost a fraction to make to "help others."
Sure, its a good cause, but remember, TOMS is also making a LOT of money off of you.
@greybash "...Their shoes are shockingly expensive, fourty dollars for a pair of cheap material shoes... that cost a fraction to make to 'help others'."
Actually, you got it a bit wrong. TOMS charges the customers for both your shoes AND the shoes they ship out for shoe drops. That is why they're so expensive.
I would love to buy these shoes, but I don't want to buy online with my credit card. They sell them in Saskatoon, so I'll be road tripping out there to buy some from a licensed retailer.
not for two weeks, anyway. I am glad they do this- and now that they have a little buzz going, they should make real outdoor shoes for these kids. I know the costs are high, but economies of scale are being reached.

You can order them online, that's the best place to get them. There are various boutiques that sell them as well, but it depends on where you live because they're scattered everywhere.
My family has bought 8 pairs of TOMS and after you buy them you feel rly good about possibly saving a childs life or letting them get an education! Thank you Blake for starting the one for one idea and inspiring so many 2 help!
Great idea. Too bad they are made in China. So pretty much they get to return back to China and give the free pairs of shoes to the kids that made them. (Being phacisious but you get my point)
you mean Chinese kids made these shoes in China, not sure if they were really made in China, which is beside the point, the thing is what gives the idea that they were made by KIDS in China?
"Anybody who's starting a small company; everbody who has an idea, incorporate giving in what you do." Great advice! I already have plans to do that with my product.
Blake and everybody involved...I salute all of you.
you can apply to volunteer for TOMS and do cross country road trips to spread the word about the TOMS mission. if you love the shoes and you love the idea of one for one apply!

Are you claiming to be the owner of Toms?
Because unfortunately for you, "Tom" didn't create TOMS. Blake Mycoskie did. It was a really good try though. : ]
