i was about 100 feet from a tornado when i was 3 years old. it would of killed us. im glad im still here i love my life. im 13 years old and glad im still alive.
that is actually known as a waterspout. Waterspouts barely do any damage so it couldnt have damaged any steel rollercoasters. wooden maybe but steel nah. but on some rare occasions they can do quite some damage. they are usually EF0 tornados that are in the range of 65-85 mph winds and 4% of EF0 tornadoes cause any deaths.
@OOHSLAX25 I didn't like Dragster. Did you know in one day it broke down like three times and got stuck seven times? I did want to ride Millenium Force. But, I ended up getting real bad heat exaughtion and spent two hours in their first aid place. (It was pretty close to heat stroke and, I ended up feeling dizzy after my head hit the shoulder bar things on the Mantis. (Guess I shouldn't have went the day after I got a mild concussion at my house huh?)
@myredrose1974 I think that it happens to every ride when you think about it. After all, they test and test and test before opening it up. However, the true tests come when the part visiters come and the ride has to be used non stop. That is the true test of a ride.
@7upman100 not even f1. f0. waterspouts aren't usually strong. A waterspout would be lucky to reach an f2. f1 is the most they usually go. Ever heard of the tristate tornado? It was an F5 that started from the bottom right missouri, through illinois, and ended in the lower left part of indiana. i live in northern indiana so ya. so far this year u.s. past the average EF5 tornado by 5, the most ef5 tornadoes was in 1974 which over 120 ef4/
The "water spout" was actually a real tornado. It just formed over Lake Erie. Never even entered Cedar Points park. It stayed on the coast of the park. You can look it up, I did and every where it said tornado not water spout at Cedar Point.
I WAS THERE! Gosh i remember that day. I was 7 at the time. I had just won a prize from one of those game things, and suddenly my dad was like "Dan! Look at that waterspout!" I thought it was an amusement park attraction at the time. It was cool nonetheless, in fact now im going to school for meteorology
a water spout is a tornadoe that forms on the water, once it hits land it dispurses, yes it hit Cedar point but when it hit it dissapated, I was there working at the time, it was pretty amazing
@demilovatofan998 so? what is so special about that? i was born 6 days before the aniversary of that tornado and im not freaking out wth is ur problem fool
I was engineer on the train at CP when this happened. It was heading straight for us, was freaky thing to see. I saw it drop form the sky. Had to get everyone off train and head for cover. Didnt do any damage other than push dumpster into some cars.
wow i go to cedar point every other year for 3 days at a time and i always thought with this in the great lake i wondered if they ever have water spouts and how damaging it would be to the park. well heres my answer. wow.
I was there as well, I was 11 though. I remember staying in the old arcade by the front of the park (across from the raptor) and waiting it out. It lasted for awhile but I remember everyone was pretty calm too... I stepped out of the arcade and watched it for a little while with my family. Best part about the whole thing was that a ton of people left, so it wasn't crowded the rest of the day (which turned out to be nice, we went on water rides later on).
@finfanz no they are not. a waterspout due to it pulling in so much water the rotation is slowed down alot. waterspouts rarly come out of the water. they just don't have enough strength to do so. this even happiness to rain wrapped tornadoes once a tornado gets rain wrapped the water will stop rotation and stall/kill the tornado. genrely then if the storm still has enough power to make them it will make a new one in a spot not so rain wraped..
I am actually pretty sure the tornadoes spawned on 1998-06-30 were from supercell thunderstorms, and could be considered tornadic waterspouts/tornadoes once they come on land.
i was there 18 at the time. the park made a announcement of it and employees where finding any stragglers and getting them to cover. they don't have sirens unfortunately but that thing stuck without warning. no big storm befor just light rain. it did not hit the park but get very close before dieing out. a few employees did panic and that hit the news. but all in all everyone was very calm and they ran there emergency plans well.
does nobody notice how there's a tornado and everyone around is acting like nothings even happening... not even taking cover?
