  • Yes, Kris wrote this in July 1972 and began recording it in 1973. Elvis began singing it regularly a year later.

  • Captivating!

  • Not to take anything away from JD but another singer has broken his record for the lowest note. Tim Storms with Pierce Arrow in Branson, Mo. also has the widest range for a male.

  • @rickhester Tim Storms also needs 9 thousand amps so you can hear him. He's not a real bass singer, no matter what the Guinness Book of Records says. Real bass singers dont need a wall of amps to be able to hear them. JD Sumner, Tim Duncan, George Younce, Tim Riley, Aaron McCune are all real bass singers. Tim Storms is just a vocal fry with a lot of technology to help him.

  • love JD sumner he is the best by far ever bass singer in the world. no one has ever hit the lowest bass note so far.

  • love that song

  • originals are always be the anointed ones......

  • So wonderful, But I still love Kris Kristoffersons version of this song the best

  • it sounds so buttiful it is so tearful R.I.P Elvis love u your soul is in the lords hand

  • it sounds so buttiful it is so tearful R.I.P Elvis love u

  • JD!! I love you JD! :D

  • I get chills and tears in my eyes every time I hear and watch Elvis. And i am only 17, Its AMAZING how someone from 30-50 years ago can effect me now. He will always be the greatest entertainer to ever live. He was beautiful, kind, humble, generous, charming, gifted, and devoted to God. No one will ever come CLOSE to reaching his standards and level of perfection and talent.

God Bless! Elvis is home now! <3

  • Actually Elvis did have the opportunity to study classical voice while he was stationed in Germany. You can notice the fuller richness of his voice in his recordings after that period. There's no subtitution for God given talent, and Elvis had the most I think I ever heard and I sang professionally for over 10 years. When God gives you a talent I think you are obligated to develope it and make the most of it you can. Elvis did that, to honor the giver; and we were all blessed with the results!

  • THIS IS MY FAVOR GOSPEL SONG FROM ELVIS.....LONG LIVE THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL!!!

  • elvis is a great singer and he will always be great singer. but he love gospel music. if you guys do reserchs. he amits it.. but this is one of my favorite songs from him. another one is. if its isnt love. but he a awsome singer. n no he no devil worshiper. he always praying befor shows.. but that song was really good.

  • this was written by Chris Christofferson the actor/singer

  • elvis war und ist der beste Musiker aller Zeiten.

  • what a voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • RELIQUIA!!...VAlew!! Obrigado pelo video!!!

  • Only the legion of mindless, zombie-like Elvis fans could think he can even approach Kris on this.

  • @rvcrvc2 and you'd have to be a pretty bad fan of kris and music in general to make a statement like that.

  • @rvcrvc2 Kris who?

  • powerful!! and amazing!! ELVIS!!

    he was the MAN!!

  • Brilliant is the word wish we had HD in them days lol but the sound is just BRILLIANT thanks for this one . It was nice to hear Elvis say he likes this, i know he like all the songs he sang, but its just nice to hear him say it

  • j.d.bass-sanger,ilove you!!!!!!

    Elvis is the best.

  • That's Kathy singing the soprano

  • If I remember correctly, Kris Kristofferson actually wrote this song.

  • @TheCheryl1967 yes your are correct

  • @TheCheryl1967 yes your are correct

  • @TheCheryl1967 He did..It was from a result of going to Church one day ....its on you tube, What's with the low voice at the beginning . I ve heard Elvis do much better than this..the beginning of it sounds like its in slow motion

  • @dakotahstr That's not Elvis, that's JD summner a famous Gospel singer. Elvis used to slip in at his shows when he was a kid. Years later JD summner and his quire did backing vocals for years.

  • @TheCheryl1967 This version is the best, though.

  • @TheCheryl1967 You are correct!

  • by a brain

  • great ELVIS! great JDS!!!!!

  • @thelordstim yeah man i was thinking the same thing

  • How about J D Sumner? He sang with the Blackwoods and his bass is the purest I have ever heard.

  • I love this song so much. As a teen at church we use to sing this song. This is the first version I have heard that even comes close to the way we sang it. You can just hear the joy and love for the Lord in Elvis voice!

  • mr. sumner makes this song

  • Thank you so much for sharing this video.

  • Amen

  • Elvis like all other Christians realizes we're sinners & that without Jesus we would never come to understand the meaning of our life & how we should each one of us be the best we can, develop our talents and serve our fellow man/woman..Love is ALL God wants as rettribution for our life! Love of self , knowing one's self, Love of neighbor & enemies .Peace via music VIVA MARIA!

  • sing it El..............forever

  • When i have bad day....i listing to this song!!!...it make me feel so better!!.....LONG LIVE THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL!!

  • Thanks for sharing, my friend.

    ***ALWAYS ELVIS***

  • i dont get why elvis and a christian singer are singin togeda pls someone enlighten me

  • @didold because Elvis used to be a gospel singer and he and Elvis were friends

  • @SoniaRose71 thanks i dont know much about elvis apart from that he was almost as popular as micheal jackson

  • @didold It was fairly common for singers from this era to use gospel groups as their backup singers. Like Johnny Cash used the Statler Brothers. Both Johnny Cash and Elvis' background was from gospel music so it made sense to use gospel groups.

  • @squireofgothos88 thanks for takin d tym to reply

  • @didold Elvis frequently used Christian groups and Quartets as backers. He did several Gospel Albums and his Favorite singer was Jake Hess from the Statesmen Quartet and the Imperials - both groups that sang with Elvis. Jake Hess and James Blackwood, both Christian singers sang at Elvis' funeral. J.D. Sumner ( this bass singer ) has said that Elvis was a Christian and loved God.

  • you cant beat that low base voice of jd sumner! sends chills down my spine everytime! then to add elvis to that wow!!

  • jd still can send chills down my spine with his voice

  • Elvis was said to have made some racist statements, but he got his soul from black juke joints in the south. i dont htink he was rascist, I just think he played the role , because thats what people at the time wanted from him.

  • @tbursee i'd say you're close,if not right on it,take care,God bless.

  • WHAT GREAT AND PRECIOUS MEMORIES IT IS TO HEAR THIS CONCERT ONCE AGAIN AFTER SO MANY YEARS THAT HAS PASSED...

  • wow. years years ago. and JD sumner is the best.. and with elvis.. shows how JD sumner was proven to be the best bass singer ever in all times.

  • The best bass singer in the world.

  • @ilves2 & the fellow j.d. called to go fill in,richard sterban,oaks bass.

  • awesome! J.D. sumner was my personal friend and i believe he and elvis singing together in heaven.

  • I really hope that Elvis opened his heart to jesus and went home when he laid dying on that toilet. Beautiful song!

  • @DanneDonut

Elvis apparently was indeed a devout Christian, even though fame (and Colonel Parker's influence) had seriously negative effects. His stepbrother even said that the real reason Elvis died was the Lord decided His child had gone through enough pain.

  • @MrInitialMan His stepbrother has told you the absolute truth.

  • I really like Elvis's Gospel music, There is no one else who can sing it as good as he can. You can hear it in his vioce that he sings sings it for the Lord.

  • wow....gut wretching song....rips your heart right out....

    wtg guys....

  • VERY POWERFUL SONG!!! you can feel it listening to this song elvis and j.d. absoulutly amazing .....does anyone know what album this song was on

  • elvis and jd we luv juh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • outstanding!

  • The message is very powerful...Yes we all question ourselves, in our life...And it is when we are at our lowest we often cry unto the lord...Seek and you shall find knock and the door will be opened....The lord will never forsake the ones he loves...WOW! Such a beautiful Message..Thankyou Hugs Jessie xxxx

  • If you listen to Elvis on the chorus, he's singing a harnony line, not the melody. This is a rarity. I can't ever remember hearing Elvis singing any thing but the lead! Amazing!

  • During the time you see and hear this musical clip you have the opportunity to reflect on your life and where you will spend eternity. If you have any questions about the ticket to the eternity and about the right visa in your passport, then accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and He will give you a ticket and the stamp to eternity. Find a local church and enjoy your new life. God Bless you

  • thank you jd and Elvis

    luv jah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The way he just came back into the song at the end shows where he came from, as if the song didn't. He didn't care what people thought, he did it for the Lord.

  • this is truely fantastic duet

  • The world's deepest bass voice with the King of Rock in Roll. I can't get enough of them. I sure miss them both.

  • Elvis Presley was truly gifted by GOD! He never had any formal training. His beautiful voice was God Given and amazes me still to this day.

  • Elvis, like all of us, fell short in his every day living. However, he had a good soul. You can see it in this performance. I truly don't think he was just acting here. Great performance. God rest his soul.

  • Elvis and JD= Fantastic! Wonderful video.

    ELVIS FOREVER!

  • Powerful gospel song sang by the Greatest singer ever!!! he touched your heart and soul so deeply through his wonderful music.. which came directly from his generous heart.....

Thank you for sharing a precious gift

  • In all capitals...LEGENDARY PERFORMANCE BY A LEGEND

  • now thats a base

  • They are certainly two legends, absolutely amazing together. Thank you for the share.

  • Truley amazing voice, J.D. was a master of the Bass vocals. Wonderful to hear.

  • Hi wonder if you could take a listen to some elvis songs I have done on youtube, just put in BOBVOCAL HOW THE WEB WAS WOVEN BOVOCAL THE THRILL OF YOUR LOVE AND BOBVOCAL LEAD ME HO LORD LEAD ME hope you enjoy them BOB

  • Elvis bought JD's first bus? True, Elvis did buy him a new bus in the 70's but actually, one of JD's claims to fame was that he was the first to come up with the idea of using a bus for touring. This was done in the mid 50's while he was with the Blackwood Brothers. He was also the first to install Pulman Births for sleeping in buses. All other singing groups owe him for these innovations.

  • Elvis probably bought JD a house too, along with juvelrys, cars, motorbikes etc.. He was very generous!

  • Love it when he goes over to the Stamps at the end and does the ending again, pushing for the high notes and passionate ending that he always loved to sing for us....

  • Elvis' gospel music is the best u'll hear

  • j.d was a great singer never got to meet him but he was a distant cousin great man of God ! (wife of father040506)

  • this rare footage of course almost everything on youtube is rare. its elvis 1974 and he still on top. jd sumner was elvis hero from the early days cstanchik

  • het is en blijft een voortreffelijk mooi nummer vooral als je in de shit zit dan put je hier een hoop kracht uit!!!!!!!! Thanks Elvis en JD en the Stamps 12-09-2009

  • J.D Sumner and Elvis= Awesome

  • DID YOU FORGET SOMETHING?

The Seventh Day is the Sabbath.

    gen 2:1-3

    exo 20:8-11

    matt 28:1

Jesus is coming soon! GET READY GET READY!!

  • What? Religious spamming? I don't see how Elvis and SDAs are related....

  • what are SDA's

  • Seventh Day Adventists. HEliVesINu was preaching about that stuff, and I ask what the hell has that got to do with this Elvis Presley video. If they wanna preach they can piss off to church and do the preaching, yes?

  • yea

  • J.D. Sumner is a SDA, and he was Elvis´s mentor for a while, when Elvis was still christian..

  • Interesting. I have no probs with that. That doesn't, however, justify spam.

  • @rghorga what do you mean still christian? J.D. Sumner was an alcoholic? does that mean he wasn't a christian?

  • @HEliVesINu Did you forget something? That was the old law that was done away with when Christ died. (Heb 10:9 ) Now if insist on following the old law (like keeping the Sabbath) than you should also sacrifice animals for your sins too! But we don't do that anymore either because that was the old law that was taken away.

  • In my mind, I see the little boy in Elvis following those gospel greats around like a puppy. He idolized Jake Hess, JD Sumner, and others. It probably thrilled Elvis to no end to have JD singing with him!!!

  • No one even comes close to Elvis' delivery of this song. The absolute best. Brilliant video. Thank you.

  • BRILLIANT

  • elvis loved this guy .tcb

  • He sure did. I think he thought JD's voice was amazing. I love that E just sang gospel in his concerts.. You would almost have to ask permission to do that in today's world. great song..never heard it before today

  • el loved bass singers when he knew he was going to do live shows he asked the stamps to tour with him thank god they did

  • char..have you heared sweet sweet spirt by the stamps, give it a wee look

  • I found the one that Elvis gave them the stage to sing it accapella. Amazing. Elvis really loved them all but JD Sumner in particular. You know JD Sumner did not actually truly find the Lord until the last few years of his life?? From my understanding, Mark Lowry helped him a lot. My favoritie JD Sumner song is 'The Lord Still Lives in This Old House'but this is fantastic..

  • @char4him99 Its true. Many Southern Gospel singers lived hard lives and amazing as it sounds

they sang hymns time after time but never really knew the Lord. One famous former Southern

Gospel singer everyone knows testifies how he would sing Gospel music in churches all

evening, then go out to the bus and GET DRUNK or USE DRUGS.

This is why you must use discernment when worshiping quartets and such, assuming they

are saved. They may not be! Many are just entertainers living for the devil.

  • @GooglFascists Many men and women suffer the same weakness's, It is not wether or not they have accepted Christ the King, it is their inability to fight something alone and not understanding that they are under attack. Do not point the finger at anyone for the scripture says No Man Knows another mans heart. Some are stronger than others but we ALL fall short. You too my friend. Scripture also says give strong drink to the poor AND afflicted so they remember NOT their sorrows. Afflicted they were

  • so freaking low

  • now thats bass... wow!

  • J.D Sumner had a really great bass voice

  • This is great. There isn't anyone that

compares to Elvis and his music.

  • @rose473 His music maybe but rarely HIS songs!

  • C'était dans la nuit, voila.

  • reminds me of happy times with my dad, first time we heard jd's voice we were amazed:)

  • The video's not too good, but the song is just wonderful!

  • Elvis and JD Sumner were the very best - no one will EVER come close. Thanks, Elvis and JD, for sharing your talent.

  • JD Summer was singing gospel when Elvis could not pay to get in.

He told him to come and he would let him in.

    Elvis bought JD's first bus.

  • i dont think who ever POST THIS SONG SHOULD OF BLACK OUT JD SUMMER THAT WAS ELVIS BACKUP SINGER AND A GOOD ONE AT THAT JD SUMMER

  • I dont think the person who posted this blacked out JD, it's clear it was an audience recording and the stage lighting was on Elvis and not JD

  • THANK U I JUST LOVE JD SUMMERS VOICE

  • Elvis met JD when he (Elvis) was 14 years old. If I'm not mistaken, JD was the bass singer for the Blackwood Bros. at that time.

  • Another example of Elvis' musical genius. He didn't just sing the songs,he chose them, set up the arrangement, and decided what kind of back up singers to have as well. He really was a tremendous music producer as well as the greatest singer of all time and this powerful song is an excellent example of both.

  • LOVE THIS MUSIC AMEN

  • JD Sumner had a awsome voice

  • YES HE DOES HE PASS AWAY

  • Lindo lindo!

  • This is AWESOME JD And Elvis Are Great In This Video

  • this song is written by kris kristofferson.

  • yes so what Elvis sings it beautyfull

  • So what? you are not interested in who has written that great song?

  • becouse you say that kris is the one who wrote that great song, and i say Elvis sings it beatyfull, kris is a great song writer but not a ferry good singer, and i did know that he wrote the song, you say elvis sings it terreble

  • Did i really say that?

    Well then i`m sorry,cause i love elvis.

And kris is a much better singer than you THINK.

  • Why not check out the Kris' rendition of the song he wrote. watch?v=g2u_rEcWW8M Many country artists have recorded this great song including: Jack Greene, Johnny Cash, Steve Wariner, Mickey Gilley, Roy Clark, the Kendalls amongst others. Thank you, Mr. Kris Kristofferson, you done good and have blessed many souls with your song, Why Me, Lord? which is the question we can all ask.

  • so WHAT I LOVE JS SUMMER UR ANOTHER SICKOOOOOOOOOO ON U TUDE YES ELVIS AND JD ARE 1 IN HEAVEN NOW UNLIKE U TRYING TO JUST GET THERE ,,THERES A HELL U KNOW...
