There's a bit where he's using an octave divider, then when he activates the smoke bomb, I'm pretty sure that's an Echoplex you're hearing. The sort of raygun/spaceship noise you hear when he takes the guitar off is created by sweeping the delay rate control back and forth on the Echoplex, with maximum regeneration.

I remembered seeing this KISS show on HBO, yes HBO when my family first subscribed to this cable network and KISS Live From Tokyo was the 1st show we have seen. We still have HBO to this day 34 years later.
This is absolutely CLASSIC Kiss! Remember when KISS was a potent, kick-ass, hard-rocking band? In my opinion, 1977 was pretty much the high water mark for KISS. Everything after paled in comparison. And Ace's influence on a generation of musicians was just beginning. I love watching videos from this era of the band's history, although it's also sad when you compare what KISS was to what KISS has become today. But God bless you, Ace Frehley!

@brianca1970 AGREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED. Well said. Met the dude at Guitar store in Pomona Ca on accident. He was there promoting Frehleys Comet doing a remote for KNAC 105.5 back in the day. Sat there and shot the shit with everybody that wanted to. Coolest MF'er I've ever met in rock music.

Ace Frehley is a talent, a real musician, a unique personality in the rock's world. He is one of the best guitar player in the whole world. With or without makeup, you can see his hands flying over the strings like wings. The notes, melodies, chords, crazy sounds, he got, will never be compared with nobody else. Frehley was the only, one and forever one, the Kiss lead guitar. Sorry for you Simmons, Frehley ruled, rules and will rule forever. Frehley, the genious.

I remembered seeing this KISS show on HBO, yes HBO when my family first subscribed to this cable network and KISS Live From Tokyo was the 1st show we have seen. We still have HBO to this day 34 years later.

This is absolutely CLASSIC Kiss! Remember when KISS was a potent, kick-ass, hard-rocking band? In my opinion, 1977 was pretty much the high water mark for KISS. Everything after paled in comparison. And Ace's influence on a generation of musicians was just beginning. I love watching videos from this era of the band's history, although it's also sad when you compare what KISS was to what KISS has become today. But God bless you, Ace Frehley!

to the people who say tommy will never be ace.... thankyou for stateing the obvious but tommy has been the guitarist for kiss for 5+ years now... ace was great in the 70's and a portion of the 80's, and even on the reunion tour but it was his time to step down. tommy may wear the costume but keep in mind the groth rate of kiss as a musical group and a franchise since he joined. im not saying tommy is better..... belive me hes not, but i am saying ace had his go with kiss and now it is tommys

Man, Ace has a genuine, deep blues feel to his playing...overlooked by many I think. The fact that he's such a strong influence on todays rock musicians must piss the pseudo intellectuals at Rolling Stone off to no end...what a sad buch...seriously.
