I have to correct you, jasonmicron, because many of these people didn't "choose" to stay, they simply couldn't leave. @ izaccy This is the problem with America today. There's no time for fun and games. There's to much shit going on with our country to go on the news and have a whole segmnt dedicated to that.
I thought Anderson Cooper was cool until he went on his program and spoke about Stephen Colbert. He said he wasn't going to have a rating war and was just going to ignore Colbert. But by saying tht on ur National TV show ur just making urself look like an ass.
@cyboga1 Yeah, that was a joke. They're friends, and Anderson was one of the first people interviewed if not the first when The Colbert Report started.
The only person or thing she didn't thank was the Academy. So this is her all angry, she thanks people?? I can't image when she is happy, she must give out BJs or something similar.
WTF, she thanks idiot Bush who did nothing. It's bad enough he appoints a village idiot to head FEMA, but just like his dad when Hurricane Andrew hit in 1992, he did nothing to help those poor people. If Katrina would have hit in a Presidental election year, he would have been kicked out of the White House just like his old man. No Bush should ever be given a chance to run for the Presidency. They are all multi-millionares who don't care about poor people.
I remember listening to this live broadcast. I remember hearing this woman. All I could do was sit there with my jaw dropped wonder what the heck was going on with all these politicians praising each other for a job well done. I was so proud of Cooper for standing up for the people.
I kind of disagree with Anderson because yes he was reporting seeing Dead bodies but was he helping himself pick them up... NO he was just reporting to get an award, so i understand where Senator Landrieu was coming from because you can't just stop in the middle of a crisis and poke fingers you have to FIX THE DAMN PROBLEM.
@EdwardP88 , He actually does help when he can, and he was not just reporting to get a reward, he was reporting to show people the effects of Katrina and the damage it's caused. The senator wasn't out there amidst the bodies, Anderson was.

Cooper didn't expose Mary. I don't like either one of them but Landrieu had more composure than AC, and she has to. If AC is going to be one of the world's pre-eminent newsmen, then he has to be emotionally prepared to see some ugly things. You could hear his voice shaking while he was lecturing Mary and it was as if he just desperately wanted to escape his assignment. It's not her fault if he can't handle it. She was keeping a cool head in thanking members of both parties, unlike most Dems.
@RoyalNavyBaby Its just about his anger over the assignment a hole. He's shaking with anger at this evil bitch of a senator that puts politics ahead of addressing the real problem
@RoyalNavyBaby Anderson Cooper has reported from some of the worst tragedies around the globe, and keeping a cool head is his forte. The reason this is different is because it's not some foreign government, it's not a third world nation, he's seeing his own government allow his fellow Americans to die needlessly. As far as I'm concerned he handled this situation incredibly well, and did what any good reporter should -- he asked the questions the people needed answered.

This big mouthed buffoon is in way over her head as a U.S. Senator. She has a "sociology" degree from LSU and people think George W. Bush's resume is a joke? For the moment, she is a weakling who can be bought with bribes. Put up the right money and you can "own" this woman. This type of politician who sells their soul for "filthy lucre" is the most detestable.
She doesn't even know who the President is! I can't wait to vote against her. (I live in La) This dummy is out! and the crazy guy was trying to see if the phones worked because you still can't get through to her. We strongly suspect she doesn't want to hear any of her constituents oppose her HC vote, because we don't want it. How's that for "public servant?)
I can't stand her. And I'm also opposed to the HC bill (as is most Americans.) I live in La too and wrote to her for years and got no response. Only since she's up for re-election does she even send out replies. I hope she goes down. I'd vote for Mickey Mouse before I'd vote for this woman. Sorriest senator we've ever had. That Landrieu name carries a lot of clout though - that's the only thing that worries me.
Thanks for saying that. I have been writing her too, with the same result. I did finally get a form letter the other day saying, basically, that we could all go to hell, and that, as Mary Landrieu, she does what she wants. I wrote that I was extremely opposed to HC. This woman sends me the letter touting her successes with the bill and my luck at having her for a senator! I mean, she blatantly doesn't give a damn. But I agree, Landrieus think they are the Kennedys of La.
I agree with what Anderson did as well. This is what they teach us to do in journalism. Knock the politicans off their pedistal. The difficulty is when there is no proof such as Fox News tends to do on a regular basis.
It was up to the people to help themselves. THEN, it was up to the LOCAL politicians to help their people. I don't think Nitwit mentioned her governor once, and I'm too lazy to listen to this mess again.
And why are people getting on Anderson Cooper? I watched this live when he did this, And I tell you what, That woman sat there thanking other politicians while people were trapped in flooded houses for days. THEY KNEW how serious this Hurricane was.
Mary Landrieu is a Cunt. Politicians like her do nothing in vital times. She's one of the big reasons the Health Care bill is so watered down. FUCK YOU MARY LANDRIEU... I hope you never get re-elected!
i respect how passionate he was about getting help to the victims in New Orleans, but honestly that wasn't his place to press mary landrieu about it. that is not the job of a news reporter... props to him for saying what needed to be said, but a news reporter should not state his/her own opinions like that. media is dead in that respect in my opinion...
@foompow I think that's absolute rubbish. Objectivity in news reporting is equally subjective. What's considered objective nowadays is letting a Republican and a Democrat speak, that isn't journalism, that's stenography. If you just report what power centers are telling you, you'll never understand what's going on. Is Landrieu going to talk about the death people in the street, something for which she bears responsibility? I doubt it. So I think this was very much appropriate and good journalism
@foompow ... Do you know how stupid your comment is? Obviously you don't know what a reporter is. He was in the field, reporting to the American people whom did NOT have a voice or answers to our anger. He asked for us. That's exactly what a field reporter is supposed to do!!
i completely agree that he should tell the people how things really are, but the fact that he went after landrieu specifically was out of line in my opinion. his personal opinion doesn't matter. that doesn't mean i'm not happy he said it, i was simply commenting on the fact that news reporting has changed from what it classically was. she deserved to be called out, but i still feel that it was not a reporters place to do so. when it comes to telling the people the facts, anderson's a god.
You said "she deserved to be called out, but I still feel that it was not a reporters place to do so."
Whose place was it? How many Louisiana residents and non-Louisiana residents do you think shouted at the TV "YES!!" when he did that? With dead bodies getting eaten by rats on AMERICAN streets and she has the nerve to say "I want to thank Senator ------ for doing an amazing job.".... Whose job was it to call her out in that moment?
how about those American people you just described... you don't understand, I'm not upset that he exposed the truth, but his job is to report the straight news, not impose his opinion. what he said wasn't wrong, but i'm simply saying that it is not in the hands of a NEWS reporter to press their interviewees. every reporter nowadays is trying to slip in their own opinions and that's wrong in my opinion. i'm happy it was said. i was just commenting on the fact that journalism as we knew it is dead
@foompow A damn good thing too. Gone is the by-stander journalism, no heart. I think we WANT to see reporters like Anderson, who bring a little emotion to their reports. I don't know how long it's been since you've taken a journalism class, but I'm currently a journalism major and a lot has changed. It is important to remain objective and unbiased, but there is nothing wrong with calling out your interviewee while they are blatantly bullshitting.
Anderson Cooper is so awesome! That lady is a bitch and obviously has no heart. How could she stand there and say that the government was doing the best they could. That is bullshit. She should have stopped thanking people and talked about what the government was going to do for those thousands of innocent people suffering
Anderson Cooper was right saying that those in Congress and in the government should stop thanking each other and using all these niceties, but the woman was right in saying that finding the people responsible should be done after the problem is solved. Cooper should have put forth his comments about what was going on and pressed for them to do more about it, rather than trying to find someone to blame.
The government allotted funds to fix the levy decades before Katrina, but the State used the money for sports venues. Landrieu was heard talking about how they were going to pin the blame on Bush. Mayor Nagin was an incompetent lackey who couldn't mobilize his own resources.
Hey Mary Landreu if you wher doing a good job, why did you allow Bush to deny the army corp of engineers funding the strengthning of levys. That is why this happened. She is a republican not a demacrat vote her butt out. She is aganst the public option, low costs rx.
Oh yes really. I read about this in Anderson's book which I suggest you read. The best and hardest story I ever saw Anderson Cooper cover in his over 15 year career as a reporter. I have never seen him get so angry in my life.
I was thinking that too, but you can understand why he would be crying, or at least on the verge of tears. This was a horrible time in our nation's time.
That is understandable. He has mentioned that covering Katrina was one of the most emotional moments in his career. He couldn't believe that level of neglect and inaction happened in the US. I was touched and upset by the story. Does anybody know what happened to the baby they were searching for?
All of her contributions come from lawyer, insurance, & finance political action committies (PAC's).
She calls herself a Democrat, but is voting against a Public Option because she, "will not do anything that would undermine our current insurance industry" even though the state ranks in the BOTTOM FIVE in the United States regarding health care!
WHAT AN IDIOT !!!
I bet she's got a hidden plantation somewhere in LA with real live working slaves!
"i grew up in this town. my father was the mayor" oh, yes, you're one of us. my daddy was a mayor too. and my uncle was on the federal reserve board...it's one thing to come from money and influence, but it's another to try and demonstrate how you're just as effected as everyone else by basically saying ONE of your homes was destroyed.
He is such a professional journalist and you can tell because most reporters are robots but he can humble himself to look at what was really going on. The senator, she was ridiculous just like the rest of the government the only thing that matters is money not rotting human bodies in the middle of the street nor people who need help.
It almost seems like he is gonna cry at one point. I just finished reading this scene as he describing from the "dispatches from the edge". Really good book of his.
tracy, get a life or take your own. Around 1,700 died when Katrina hit. All you do is mimic retard Beck?
Bush waited so long before sending help. Got that? The newscasters that were there were stunned beyond belief regarding the devastation, the fact that FEMA waited so long to be dispatched.
I remembering watching this unfold and asking myself if we lived in a third world country.
So, stop channeling Beck, STFU. Your Karma is horrid.
do you get the anger? Bush sat around for days before dispatching fema, kinda like when he sat in a classroom while 9-11 happened. he cant pronounce NuClear..... that administration got us into this little predicament our country now finds itself in
senator mary landrieu is an asshat. she doesn't care about these victims then and not about all the folks with no healthcare in her state. she is against a "Public Option" because she is in the pocket of big pharma and the insurance industry.
I know man, but hopefully she gets replaced by a true PROGRESSIVE in here state. They need to show this tape in ads to show her nonchalant aproach in this interview during Hurricane Katrina. Anderson Cooper actually did a pretty good job reporting during Hurricane Katrina. But then again, a Natrual Disaster like this and a HORRIBLE job of lack of services provided by the Federal Government, anybody should been on their asess!
I think this is why Anderson is so successful as a journalist and anchorman. I watch news, and the people delivering it seem so robotic, just reading off of the teleprompter, but Anderson is really passionate about the issues he reports on, and it makes him just a little bit more human than the others.
This woman compares houses to HUMANS.

@flobrew You guys had your chance to vote her out in 2008, yet, she got re-elected again.

@spinnernet1 Won't happen again. Don't worry. She's never gone this far before.

I agree with what Anderson did as well. This is what they teach us to do in journalism. Knock the politicans off their pedistal. The difficulty is when there is no proof such as Fox News tends to do on a regular basis.
jnierstheimer 2 years ago 3
It was up to the people to help themselves. THEN, it was up to the LOCAL politicians to help their people. I don't think Nitwit mentioned her governor once, and I'm too lazy to listen to this mess again.

And why are people getting on Anderson Cooper? I watched this live when he did this, And I tell you what, That woman sat there thanking other politicians while people were trapped in flooded houses for days. THEY KNEW how serious this Hurricane was.
BlaqPrincess 2 years ago 5
Mary Landrieu is a Cunt. Politicians like her do nothing in vital times. She's one of the big reasons the Health Care bill is so watered down. FUCK YOU MARY LANDRIEU... I hope you never get re-elected!

wouter0612 2 years ago
i respect how passionate he was about getting help to the victims in New Orleans, but honestly that wasn't his place to press mary landrieu about it. that is not the job of a news reporter... props to him for saying what needed to be said, but a news reporter should not state his/her own opinions like that. media is dead in that respect in my opinion...
foompow 2 years ago
I disagree with you. Its the reporters duty to reveal the truth. I wonder if Anderson also has seen the neglect with Haiti.
putawayfoolishgames 2 years ago 4
@foompow I think that's absolute rubbish. Objectivity in news reporting is equally subjective. What's considered objective nowadays is letting a Republican and a Democrat speak, that isn't journalism, that's stenography. If you just report what power centers are telling you, you'll never understand what's going on. Is Landrieu going to talk about the death people in the street, something for which she bears responsibility? I doubt it. So I think this was very much appropriate and good journalism
Cosbibi 2 years ago
@foompow ... Do you know how stupid your comment is? Obviously you don't know what a reporter is. He was in the field, reporting to the American people whom did NOT have a voice or answers to our anger. He asked for us. That's exactly what a field reporter is supposed to do!!
OctoroonToYou 2 years ago
i completely agree that he should tell the people how things really are, but the fact that he went after landrieu specifically was out of line in my opinion. his personal opinion doesn't matter. that doesn't mean i'm not happy he said it, i was simply commenting on the fact that news reporting has changed from what it classically was. she deserved to be called out, but i still feel that it was not a reporters place to do so. when it comes to telling the people the facts, anderson's a god.
foompow 2 years ago
You said "she deserved to be called out, but I still feel that it was not a reporters place to do so."
Whose place was it? How many Louisiana residents and non-Louisiana residents do you think shouted at the TV "YES!!" when he did that? With dead bodies getting eaten by rats on AMERICAN streets and she has the nerve to say "I want to thank Senator ------ for doing an amazing job.".... Whose job was it to call her out in that moment?
OctoroonToYou 2 years ago 4
how about those American people you just described... you don't understand, I'm not upset that he exposed the truth, but his job is to report the straight news, not impose his opinion. what he said wasn't wrong, but i'm simply saying that it is not in the hands of a NEWS reporter to press their interviewees. every reporter nowadays is trying to slip in their own opinions and that's wrong in my opinion. i'm happy it was said. i was just commenting on the fact that journalism as we knew it is dead

Anderson Cooper is the best reporter in America.
makinawdandy6699 2 years ago 134

This was a horrible time in our nation's time.

he's supposed to be used to "keeping them honest"

That is understandable. He has mentioned that covering Katrina was one of the most emotional moments in his career. He couldn't believe that level of neglect and inaction happened in the US. I was touched and upset by the story. Does anybody know what happened to the baby they were searching for?

All of her contributions come from lawyer, insurance, & finance political action committies (PAC's).
She calls herself a Democrat, but is voting against a Public Option because she, "will not do anything that would undermine our current insurance industry" even though the state ranks in the BOTTOM FIVE in the United States regarding health care!

He is such a professional journalist and you can tell because most reporters are robots but he can humble himself to look at what was really going on. The senator, she was ridiculous just like the rest of the government the only thing that matters is money not rotting human bodies in the middle of the street nor people who need help.

tracy, get a life or take your own.
Your Karma is horrid.
lenegal77 2 years ago 2
do you get the anger? Bush sat around for days before dispatching fema, kinda like when he sat in a classroom while 9-11 happened. he cant pronounce NuClear..... that administration got us into this little predicament our country now finds itself in
budlite187 2 years ago 3
senator mary landrieu is an asshat. she doesn't care about these victims then and not about all the folks with no healthcare in her state. she is against a "Public Option" because she is in the pocket of big pharma and the insurance industry.
I hope she burns in HELL!
woggins 2 years ago 2
